Art theft in Steam / Counter-StrikeUPDATE: SIC (the other half of this collaborative gun skin design) has contacted me, saying that he was unaware that this canine piece was copyrighted to me. I don't blame him for this unfortunate event. We're currently working on to solve this, in the best case the Howl items on Steam will not be removed.Art theft in Steam / Counter-Strike8 months ago in Personal More Like This

JUNE CONTEST RESULTS!RESULTS!JUNE CONTEST RESULTS!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, after about six solid straight hours of reading and deliberating your entries, I've finally come to a (very strangled) conclusion. As I was watching the entries come though last month I already realised this would be an extremely difficult one to pick, as many of you are fantastic well-rounded writers in your own right. I never expected the quality of so many of these stories to be so good, so give yourself a pat on the back for making my life as a contest judge horribly difficult.
In the end I came to three standouts, who on the whole each did a marvelous job. I couldn't possibly demote any to third place (which has no prize) and so, at equal second, are...

Had the Urge...…to write this because I'm getting repeated questions that are pretty much along the same lines and rather than direct each one to my FAQ, I have a different way to answer the question, which is basically:Had the Urge...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Why am I not getting anywhere in my art? What can I do to get better? No one is liking my work, how can I get more people to like my work so they can pay me?"
The real question you should be asking yourselves is:
"Why am I drawing?"
I mean, I take a look all the time at people who may not be skilled or whatever, and I'm sure they don't feel the best about their work (or they may), but they always have something to say that made them feel good while drawing it. Saw a sunset beach picture earlier that someone drew/painted and of course, it's not professional-looking at all. What ringed to me was the fact that in their comments, they said they "enjoyed it and was a relaxing piece". Not complaining about how the sand looks too crappy or the colors in the s

Why I Draw Women OftenI recently got a message, and I will slightly reword it so as not to cause profane friction, nor will I state who it came from, but it read like this: "Why is everything you post regarding a woman? I think it's very sexist when the only thing you can draw are breasts and buttocks like it's the only thing in the world."Why I Draw Women Often2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Okay, so by now, if you haven't been watching me for a good minute, you know that I really like to draw women, and I like portraying the female form, usually and often in a tasteful manner. I could hypothetically end that question there and just answer "I wasn't aware everything in my gallery was a woman or had breasts and a butt" and then post a picture or two of Rai Rivet... But I'm not going to do that. I'm going to explain my stance on drawing the female form and my adoration for it.

Inferno Canto XXX.V by LuckySlugger
Inferno rewritten using the Terza Rima scheme. A fitting tribute to Dante Alighieri.
Well written and true to the original, this adaptation of Inferno is a feat of skill and dedication. Clocking in at 1150 words, this is a worthwhile for anyone interested in structured poetry.

Worldbuilding: On Magic And Technology.Thought I'd share this here, since it's generic to Fantasy Literature, and might stir up thought/and or discussion. Feel free to express your own opinions on this!Worldbuilding: On Magic And Technology.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
One of the reasons I love to write Steampunk and Urban Fantasy is I don't have to make excuses for why there is both gunpowder and magic in my world.
Or better said, I don't have to argue why I shouldn't have to make an argument for having both magic and gunpowder in a fantasy. To me, one of the most annoying tropes in fantasy is the assertion that magic removes tech. First of all, it's applied with horrific inconsistency. There can be High Renaissance fashion, castles, rapiers, full plate armor, caravels, and even primitive steam engines. In other words, all the trappings of the late 1600s. But, JRR Tolkien forbid you ever, ever include anything that looks like even a primitive firearm. Somehow, the inclusion of a musket ruins fantasy.
I once read Raymond Feist's defe

Inferno: Canto XXX.V by LuckySlugger
I enjoyed the original Divine Comedy (even if it was startling) and to find a writer like LuckySlugger, who took up the challenge of creating his own encounter and then twisting it subtly to modernise it, is something I really appreciated and applaud. I love it when writers seize the initiative to take something that is well known and try to put their own spin on it while maintaining the integrity of the original. I like it even more when they succeed.
The feel and language of the piece fit the classic poem seamlessly, and the effort that LuckySlugger put into following the form

Most of my IRL close acquaintances and friends always ask me "Rob, why you work so much? Why don't you go out with us like you used to?" "Man, we used to hoop all the time dude, when are we getting back to the court?"
My response usually consists of "I... just got things to do." And I do. I'm practically at the computer almost 18 hours a day, hacking away at the game. When my wife gets home, I spend a couple hours with her until she goes to sleep, and then I finish up whatever work until I hit the sack.
Then they'd be the ones to go on how much they hate their job. Actually, its pretty funny: One of my closest dudes has an artistic background in music. He could be killing it in the indie scene even; he's a very talented dude. But man, he's dealing with chick-o-drama, always spending his free time (now on GTA5) playing games or going to the bar, and then have the audacity to go on how much he hate his jo

DON'T WORRY, THIS IS STILL BEING JUDGED.
The past couple weeks have just been hectic due to it being Valentine's and whatnot.
(Not to mention a couple of the people I need to get opinions from haven't been on due to their own reasons.)
Everything is set to be announced by the first week of March at the latest, however.
Thank you for your patience, and I apologise for the wait!
SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW, 100% CLOSED.
No more will be accepted from this point on.
Now comes the toughest part of all... judging. And it's going to be a difficult task indeed.
Unlike last times when I did all solely by myself, this time I will be getting some assistance from people I know who are also familiar with The Summoner, its premise/background and characters.
Final decisions will be mine, however...
I ask for everyone's patience in this, and it might not be until March that I'm able to find the time to finalise everything.

The “alternative universe” has long been a sci–fi trope, usually simply a good–guy bad–guy heroes and villains reversal. Like the Star Trek episode (“Mirror, Mirror”) in which a transporter glitch lands Kirk on an evil pirate “parallel universe” Enterprise where Spock is a goateed murderer with mutiny on his agenda. But real scientists have complicated things considerably, with “string theory” positing at least eleven (and possibly an infinite number) of “alternative/parallel universes.”
Once upon a time, we pondered our relative insignificance as sin
