This topic is about rates and wages that an artist should start to consider when taking on a new job. This is my advice, so take this as advice.
So let’s begin. As an artist you should know right away that you are valuable. You can recreate people’s imagination and ideas into reality. You are the one who brings people together to be able to all see the vision for the final product. This is valuable. Keep this in mind when you take new jobs. Think about how many hours you plan on slaving over iteration after iteration. Because even though you may have a voice, if you agree to whatever the arrangement are, you must live up to their standards. So make sure you are paid well.
Imagine a client asks you to do 50 hours of work for only $500 dollars. That’s $10 an hour. That is not enough. You can go get a job that could pay you as much if not more, without being an artist. I’ve seen people’s salaries as low as 30k a year. This is not acc

EDIT: I ADDED NUMBER 3 IN CAUSE THAT WAS KIND OF AN IMPORTANT LESSON TOO. HAHA
Usually I am pretty quiet when it comes to the community and its dealings with drama . But I feel like I have to write my two cents about this topic.
A lot of people have been throwing around this post around about how art schools are terrible and are not worth it ya. I am sure you can find the article somewhere if you just google it . Though everyone is entitled to their own opinion I feel that I should talk about both sides of the coin when it comes to art school.
Now I have went to art school , and have done well for myself , I have worked internationally and worked for some big companies , and currently at the moment I actually teach at an art school as well.
SO THE ULTIMATE QUESTION: IS ART SCHOOL A WASTE OF TIME?
WELL THERE IS NO BLACK AND WHITE ANSWER
What I believe is that art school i
Best video resources for digital artistsLearning the theory without any practice is incredibly pointless when it comes to art. On the other hand, doing everything alone and without any instructions is the longest and hardest way of achieving anything. What's worse it doesn't guarantee you success.
Through the last couple of years I've been painting, I've learned that the best way for me to learn to paint is to copy techniques of people who know what they're doing. There's no better way doing it than watching videos with commentaries. That's why today I thought I'd share with you some great lectures, tutorials and demos I've found on youtube. Using HTML on deviantARTUsing HTML on deviantART4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Hello and welcome to my little html tutorial. I've been working with html codes for a couple of years and I'm going to teach you what I know about using some basic html on deviantART. This won't make you a html expert or something and I'm not an expert myself but it will give just enough knowledge to make your journals, comments, news articles and other neat and lovely looking.
deviantART actually has FAQs about html but I still wanted to do this because they look a bit unorganized, in my opinion. Also, why would you want to look for those FAQs when you can just open this news article where you have everything in one place?
You may already know some of these, but I hope you'll find at least something helpful in this news article.
Some basic html

Why I Draw Women OftenI recently got a message, and I will slightly reword it so as not to cause profane friction, nor will I state who it came from, but it read like this: "Why is everything you post regarding a woman? I think it's very sexist when the only thing you can draw are breasts and buttocks like it's the only thing in the world."Why I Draw Women Often3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Okay, so by now, if you haven't been watching me for a good minute, you know that I really like to draw women, and I like portraying the female form, usually and often in a tasteful manner. I could hypothetically end that question there and just answer "I wasn't aware everything in my gallery was a woman or had breasts and a butt" and then post a picture or two of Rai Rivet... But I'm not going to do that. I'm going to explain my stance on drawing the female form and my adoration for it.

Star Wars: Battlefront Trailer
There’s an official trailer for the new Star Wars: Battlefront game, and it looks pretty amazing. We’re seeing a lot of what we expected: classic battles from the original trilogy as well as a few landscapes we don’t recognize. We know that the game will include a downloadable level from the new film, The Force Awakens, but otherwise we’re not entirely sur
Favourite Console of the GenerationHiya Ryceballs. You may have noticed recently I have been doing more videogame art lately despite how I said there would be more OC. There's a good reason for that, because I unexpectedly get to go to a video game convention this weekend to sell some art, so I decided to make more gaming related art to sell there. I am working on a Rycraft artwork as well so you can look forward to that! Anyways this got me thinking about games a lot, which console has what games that I liked, whether people know the games that I played? And which consoles I liked the most?? So I decided to split em into groups of generations. The Console Wars as they call it, has begun. Which was my favourite of the generation? Worldbuilding: On Magic And Technology.Thought I'd share this here, since it's generic to Fantasy Literature, and might stir up thought/and or discussion. Feel free to express your own opinions on this!Worldbuilding: On Magic And Technology.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
One of the reasons I love to write Steampunk and Urban Fantasy is I don't have to make excuses for why there is both gunpowder and magic in my world.
Or better said, I don't have to argue why I shouldn't have to make an argument for having both magic and gunpowder in a fantasy. To me, one of the most annoying tropes in fantasy is the assertion that magic removes tech. First of all, it's applied with horrific inconsistency. There can be High Renaissance fashion, castles, rapiers, full plate armor, caravels, and even primitive steam engines. In other words, all the trappings of the late 1600s. But, JRR Tolkien forbid you ever, ever include anything that looks like even a primitive firearm. Somehow, the inclusion of a musket ruins fantasy.
I once read Raymond Feist's defe

Inferno: Canto XXX.V by LuckySlugger
I enjoyed the original Divine Comedy (even if it was startling) and to find a writer like LuckySlugger, who took up the challenge of creating his own encounter and then twisting it subtly to modernise it, is something I really appreciated and applaud. I love it when writers seize the initiative to take something that is well known and try to put their own spin on it while maintaining the integrity of the original. I like it even more when they succeed.
The feel and language of the piece fit the classic poem seamlessly, and the effort that LuckySlugger put into following the form
I'm Not A Social Butterfly......well, anymore. But I'm not an introvert, either.I'm Not A Social Butterfly...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Most of my IRL close acquaintances and friends always ask me "Rob, why you work so much? Why don't you go out with us like you used to?" "Man, we used to hoop all the time dude, when are we getting back to the court?"
My response usually consists of "I... just got things to do." And I do. I'm practically at the computer almost 18 hours a day, hacking away at the game. When my wife gets home, I spend a couple hours with her until she goes to sleep, and then I finish up whatever work until I hit the sack.
Then they'd be the ones to go on how much they hate their job. Actually, its pretty funny: One of my closest dudes has an artistic background in music. He could be killing it in the indie scene even; he's a very talented dude. But man, he's dealing with chick-o-drama, always spending his free time (now on GTA5) playing games or going to the bar, and then have the audacity to go on how much he hate his jo

Collection: Alternative UniverseCollection: Alternative Universe4 months ago in Art Features More Like This
The “alternative universe” has long been a sci–fi trope, usually simply a good–guy bad–guy heroes and villains reversal. Like the Star Trek episode (“Mirror, Mirror”) in which a transporter glitch lands Kirk on an evil pirate “parallel universe” Enterprise where Spock is a goateed murderer with mutiny on his agenda. But real scientists have complicated things considerably, with “string theory” positing at least eleven (and possibly an infinite number) of “alternative/parallel universes.”
Once upon a time, we pondered our relative insignificance as sin

At the beginning of August I found myself at a hospital, diagnosed with gallstones. The only effective way of getting rid of them is to remove the whole gallbladder altogether. Unfortunately it quickly got much worse. I got a severe case of cholecystitis and developed a hydrocele. It was suspected that the inflammation started to spread to my peritoneum and liver. Even more unfortunately it didn't stop there. During all the medical examination I went through during the next few weeks it was discovered that everything was in fact caused by gallbladder cancer, which before was wrongly identified as inflamed tissue.
You can probably imagine how devastated I was after getting the news - after weeks of pain I got to know that I had cancer with extremely poor prognosis and had absolutely no money for a surgery.

It's kind of hard to sum up a voyage in just a few words and I dont really feel like blabbling on - but I adored the city, the coffee shops and hostel a bit less! Haha~
Ended up riding bikes most the time there, my bum and legs hurt so much! Unfortunately I was sick for the whole week so I had pretty bad sleeps and was pretty tired, but it was still nice!
Although I did really love the City, I feel like I mostly enjoyed my Wednesday! Went to the Kröller-Müller Museum + The park surrounding it, and I found it just greaaat. I mean, I would go biking every day if I had a nice scenery to look at ok.
Anyway here are a few pictures <3!
