Thank YouHey everyone, I just wanted to say thank you to all for all the awesome comments on my recent animations. I didn't think traditional animation had a fan base anymore but with all the support I got recently it's something I definitely want to pursue more. I've always been a follower of the traditional ways of animation and it makes me happy seeing that there are others out there that still love it too. I will be continuing to add to my sword fighting series as I want it to be one long short. I'm already working on part 3! By the end I hope to add at least lineart BG's and more effects. I don't think I'll color it as it will take a long time in Flash and I always liked the black and white of pencil tests'.Thank You2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For those of you out there in school or who also have dreams of becoming animators; don't be afraid to pursue your ambitions. The industry may look like it's favoring CG animation right now but there will always be a place for tradi

Literary Compass - Vol. 6WelcomeLiterary Compass - Vol. 63 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
If one is looking for Literature, you don't need to go far on deviantART. There is a large community of writers and a plethora of work to peruse. Featuring genres such as fantasy, mystery, horror, and romance, one would be hard-pressed to find an area not covered. However, due to the nature of the site, shorter works tend to get more focus. It's easier to quickly read a poem or a short story, and thus many of the feature articles on dA showcase those works. However, there are many novelists and serial writers among the mix, oftentimes fighting an uphill battle to have their works seen and appreciated.
With that in mind, I have started an article to spotlight some of those artists and their literary-worlds. The works covered in this feature will exclusively be long-form fiction such as novels, trilogies, etc., or fiction serials.

Appreciation and some advice for beginnersI have had this journal in mind for quite a long time, thinking I will find a time to write it down after I find a job (so that I can give 'advice' as a professional ). I've been less active in the past weeks since I was on a probation in a game company and I thought I would make it this time, unfortunately today I was told I have to go back to job hunting again. Anyway I'm not gonna wait any longer since some of my fellow deviants have been asking for advice for a long time.Appreciation and some advice for beginners2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Before I start – my apologies if some points in this journal are not clear because of language, I am not a native English speaker.
I'm not giving these advice as a professional or an elite artist (I hope I was!), just sharing my learning experience and some personal understanding of conceptual design and arts. Please ignore or correct me if I got things wrong.
Ok. Some related information about myself – I studied computing at university, in my final year I found myself really lack of interests in programming or

It will show you a timed slideshow of images to draw. I usually set the timer to 60 seconds. Drawing quickly helps you get in a large quantity of work, strengthens your ability to draw poses, and keeps you from having too much emotional attachment to your drawings. Here's some tips for getting the most out of these quick poses:
Relax. No one is going to see these drawings, so it doesn't matter if they're bad. You can throw them all away if you want to. So don't get frustrated - what matters is that you're drawing!
Draw small. When drawing quick poses, I find that it helps to keep your drawings on the smaller side. I can usually fit about six figures on one page.Don't worry about details. Your goal is to capture the overall balance

Constantly smile, everyday. Start your day with a positive attitude, even if the day before was bad. Even if its a forced smile, simply smiling causes the brain to send endorphins into the mind, which is responsible for joy. Again, remember to do this everyday.
If you draw, I do too, I've been doing this for over a decade. Just remember to draw for yourself, not for the attention of others. If not, same principle applies to whatever you enjoy doing. You don't want to get stressed over seeking the attention of strangers.
All you need is one friend in life. It can even be someone related. I blame social media for the idea that more friends are better, and I'm talking about 1000

Most people join deviantart because they have some sort of artistic skill to share with the world, and find other people with similar interests and skills. Same thing happens when you go to college for your specific trade. Everyone you meet there does the same thing you do. Spending a number of years in college and on websites devart and tumblr can leave the impression that all of your peers are just like you. You make a lot of friends with the same talent. My photography course at HogwartsUuuugh you guys, my sleep has been so terrible. I woke up out of a pretty entertaining dream, though. My photography course at Hogwarts3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was taking a photography class at Hogwarts and Snape was our teacher. I think Ron and Harry might also have been in our class but I never did see them. Our assignment at the time was to get ten outstanding photographs of animals in their natural habitat and he told us we had to roll up our pant-legs and go wading in a swamp full of alligators and poisonous snakes if we hoped to get any good ones. He meant this literally. This was our assignment. (Oh, Snape! )
So I actually did it; I took off my shoes and wandered into the bog, dodging snakes and snapping away. I took so long about it that I missed the start of critique and I sort of ran into Snape with some of my classmates on a bridge while I was headed back to the castle. He was reviewing their photos (and grading ruthlessly, as he does). He saw me and said, "What are you doing? You knew we had critique."
I answered, "Yeah, I kn

"If you could have any super power, what would it be?" I think it's a question we all have to answer at some point. We're innately curious about the unknown and enjoy diving into the depths of imagination. We know it's not possible, but we can't shake the question of, "What if?"
I don't think my answer has changed since I was asked as a child. I never saw much need for invisibility. I don't think I would enjoy being a mind reader. And sure, shooting laser beams out of my hands would be fun, but there's something that I've always been drawn to more.
I would like to fly.
To me, flight represents freedom. It's the ability to travel around without borders, coming and going as you please. I initially associate it with being closer to nature, as well, somethin
A Must Read!Guys, i just want to share these journals with you (created by: Suzanne-Helmigh) whether you're a beginner, a student, or a professional artist, these are good articles, and covered a lot of good points, not only for becoming a good artist but things to be aware about as an artist. If you have a moment, have a look! I've shared one about the myth of concept art on my art blog, but i didn't want to leave out the rest of it. So instead i've decided to share these on here, since i have more watchers here than on my art blog. I hope it will help you in some way. History Repeats ItselfLast week a Connecticut action group going by the name of SouthingtonSOS held a video game burning event where local citizens were encouraged to bring various forms of violent media to be burned in a dumpster, no doubt a reaction to the recent Connecticut shooting.History Repeats Itself3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I wish I could say I am surprised about this, but sadly the whole media frenzy surrounding violence in video games and movies reminds me of something that already happened once and profoundly affected the media it was accusing: Comic books.
During the early days of comic books, things occasionally got a little risqué. EC Horror comics in particular delighted in rendering extremely gruesome images and disturbing themes in their comics, which were being sold to children unbeknownst to their parents (because naive parents at the time had no reason to suspect comics might contain "inappropriate" material). However all that changed in 1954.
German-American psychiatrist Fredric Wertham was upset about how disturbing some of those

On pricing your artwork and creating a career...I am going to be speaking at an "Entrepreneurship In The Arts" program later today, and I've been organizing my thoughts. One subject that is certain to come up; "how do you arrive at a fair price for your original artwork?" I have some definite ideas regarding that question. On pricing your artwork and creating a career...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was always told that the accepted model for artists and artisans, when it comes to pricing, was double your costs for materials, figure out an hourly price (double that for your retail price if you plan to have wholesale/retail differentials), add it up and there's your item price. I think this model is pure bullshit.
I was also told "charge what the market will bear!" Again, vague bullshit. What if you live in a depressed area? What if you live in a third world country? What if you're at some artist's ally at a little convention and there is a kid sitting next to you selling her character sketches for $5 each?
Here is what I think. There are so many variables when it comes to pricing original art. Yo

Aww yiss, it's that time again! I'm hosting another "Draw My OC" contest, this time with my moe devil girl, Anzu! :iconyuiwahplz:
Draw Anzu. It's just that easy.
Anzu is a Devil, a type of low-level demon specializing in fire magic. During her younger years, she discovered that she was able to wield water magic as well (Something very rare amongst her kind.) Even though her skill level is pretty average, her ability to use two elemental magics allowed her to attend a prestigious magic academy. This is where she met Iso and Nia and became their good friend.
Anzu is humble and always friendly, though she can be a bit clumsy and air-headed at times (
Age of Ultron and Feminism -SPOILERS-Reviews of Age of Ultron have been going up and one consistent theme across many of them is the “problematic” nature of Black Widow’s character arc. The general consensus seems to be that Black Widow, the bad ass female hero on a team of men, was devalued by forcing her into a relationship and making her goals “let’s be a couple” and it’s all Joss Whedon’s fault.Age of Ultron and Feminism -SPOILERS-10 months ago in Personal More Like This
As a feminist myself, I find a lot of this over simplification and anger at the movie to be kinda misguided. I haven’t been seeing my viewpoints talked about much at all, which is where this journal comes into play. So here’s why, in my opinion, the subplot for Black Widow isn’t as bad as you may think.
1. First off I want to address the growing complaints that Black Widow is somehow “weaker” for wanting to have a normal life. I think that’s a really problematic mindset to have in regards to feminism. You see, in our American society there are
