Of A Lesser God“So long as there shall exist, by reason of law and custom, a social condemnation which, in the midst of civilization, artificially creates a hell on earth, and complicates with human fatality a destiny that is divine; so long as the three problems of the century - the degradation of man by the exploitation of his labour, the ruin of women by starvation and the atrophy of childhood by physical and spiritual night are not solved; so long as, in certain regions, social asphyxia shall be possible; in other words and from a still broader point of view, so long as ignorance and misery remain on earth, there should be a need for books such as this.”Of A Lesser God2 years ago in Personal More Like This

International Vulture Awareness Day falls on Sat 7th Sept this year http://www.vultureday.org/2013/index.php
Vultures are an ecologically vital group of birds that face a range of threats in many areas that they occur.
Populations of many species are under pressure and some species are facing extinction.
Vultures provide vital ecosystem services as they scavenge on carcasses, and are nature's most efficient clean-up service. However, the use of a drug called diclofenac in treating sick cattle has threatened their existence.
The main objective of such people engagement activity is to create mass support and awareness of the consequence of losing important keystone specie, which could lead to the spread of infectious disease, environmental pollution through groundwater contamination, as well as rabies with the increase in the number of feral dogs and big cats.
Can you spot the odd one

Street Photography is a largely misunderstood and misinterpreted photography genre http://myraincheck.deviantart.com/art/Statistics-on-Street-Photography-371453155 .
So, let's try to kill the most common misunderstandings:
Street photography is not photography of (empty) streets and it is not necessarily a photo taken in a street.
Street photography most definitely is not photography of your All Stars shoes in the street, it is not photography of your cat, or of graffiti or 'street art' (that's another genre of photography), it is not photography of your friends or family on trip.
Let's see some attempts to define street photography:
"The essence of street photography is the impulse to take candid pictures in the stream of everyday life" (from 'Street photography Now').
" For the most part, however, the photographers discussed in these pages have tried to work without being noti

As we all know from the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding everything was invented by the Greeks.
Well, ok we left some trivial things to be invented by the Chinese as well.
What you may not know is that Street photography was also invented by the Greeks before Photography itself was even invented.
Kairos is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment or "the supreme moment". The Greeks believed the concept of Kairos is achieved when such a moment is grasped for otherwise the moment is gone and cannot be re-captured. According to ancient Greeks, Kairos was the god of the “fleeting moment.”
Interestingly the ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. Whi
Bangkok Through My EyesI recently saw an excellent journal, (I don't exactly remember whose it was), It was about trying to convey the reality of a city, beyond its architecture and usual tourism images by words and images. It was a wonderful journal and inspired me to attempt the same. I have just come back from a small business trip to Bangkok. I have been to Bangkok quite a few times and I thought I could attempt something similar from my collection of images of Bangkok. I searched and thought and tried to materialize the idea. I found myself miserably lacking in being able to put together anything that could construe what Bangkok is like.Bangkok Through My Eyes8 months ago in Personal More Like This
For me a city, a place, a country is defined by its people and then by the environments, Its defined by human interaction, by scents and aromas, by sounds and tastes and so many intangibles that one could write a thousand books and one could show a million images, but they could not even begin to the experience of just a single day there or

Pakistan is country of great beauty, a country of great talent, a country of great resources, a country great hopes, ambitions and expectations, but still we are a very troubled Land.
It is customary to remember the founder of Pakistan, Mohammed Ali Jinnah who forged the way for our independance and laid the road map for our future.
Islam gave the Muslims of India a sense of identity; dynasties like the Mughals gave them territory; poets like Allama Iqbal gave them a sense of destiny. Jinnah's towering stature derives from the fact that, by leading the Pakistan movement and creating the state of Pakistan, he gave them all three. For the Pakistanis he is simply the Quaid-i-Azam or the Great Leader. Whatever their political affiliation, they believe there is no one quite like him.

Slum Dog MillionaireI had, on earlier occasions, noticed this growing slum in passing, but never really put much thought to it. Perchance, it was a cancelled meeting at a factory very nearby and the fact that I was carrying my Camera Kit that gave me the opportunity and the temptation to explore. I parked the car .. and roamed about the putrid, muddy, (I wouldnt even call it a) shanty town. The so called houses are just mud and stones slapped together.Slum Dog Millionaire2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This place is mostly inhabited by Pukhtoons who fled their homes and farms and villages, when the Taliban took over. They are mainly from what is now called KPK Province and the Swat Valley. They have been here for over a decade in squalor and poverty .. but with the pride of the Pukhtoons ..trying to eke out a honest existence. They used to farmers, land owners, merchants who lived a respectful and decent life. They don't get aid from the government because they don't fall into the IDP (Internally Displaced Person

This article will list five easy ways to make your comment constructive. What many people do not realise is that a constructive comment does not have to be as long or as indepth as a critique, and that you don't need to be an awesome commenter or an awesome artist to write a constructive comment. You probably won't have to spend more than 5-10 minutes writing a constructive comment, and it could still be helpful to the artist.
Here are the steps that you can take to make your comment more constructive:
State the things you like about the piece.
Try and state one thi
When Fictions became RealitiesThe subject of this journal are those drills and exercises that may have taken place in connection with most terror attacks. The aim is only to point out the facts, not to make any statement(s). The first choice of references are the mainstream media because those are regarded as "trustworthy". However when I couldn't find references in the big media, pure Internet media has been selected. Beta Test: New Thumbnail GridIn June, we announced an upcoming thumbnail grid. Today, we’re releasing the thumbnail grid and new thumb sizes to Beta Testers – and we need your keen eyes!Beta Test: New Thumbnail Grid2 months ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Highlights of the new thumbnails include:
Bigger thumbnails and a new grid system allows more emphasis to be placed on art.
The old grid leaves uneven or irregular gaps between images, while our new grid maximizes screen space to create a wall of beautifully displayed deviations.
The new thumbnail grid is optimized for bandwidth. Images will use slightly more bandwidth, but less bandwidth used across multiple pages.
Thumbnails are optimized for retina and high-resolution screens.
We put special care into the look of non-standard image types, such as literature, pixel art, and emoticons ensure that kinds of art are featured respectfully and beautifully.
The Purpose of Occupy Wall St is to Occupy Wall StOccupy Wall Street. What other political movement in modern times has won the sympathy and/or support of the majority of the American public—in less than two months? How did this happen? I think it was a revolt that has been percolating across the country since Reagan fired the first air traffic controller. Then, on September 17, 2011, a group of (mostly) young adults decided to take direct action. And this action struck a raw nerve, sending a shock wave throughout the United States, because what these kids were doing was what tens of millions of people wished they could do. The people who have lost their jobs, their homes, their “American dream”—they cathartically cheered on this ragtag bunch who got right in the face of Wall Street and said, “We’re not leaving until you give us our country back!”The Purpose of Occupy Wall St is to Occupy Wall St4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Occupy San Francisco Gets Down to BusinessThe following is an article by Gary Kamiya first published at salon.com http://politics.salon.com/2012/01/21/occupy_san_francisco_gets_down_to_business/ a couple days ago (sorry for the delay), I think it highlights some important next steps in the movement. Act II of the Occupy Wall Street movement, San Francisco version, kicked off on a rainy, blustery Friday in the heart of the city’s financial district. Targeting specific corporations like Wells Fargo and Bank of America and emphasizing real, tangible issues like home foreclosures, affordable health care and education as well as broader ones like the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, several hundred protesters – the exact number was impossible to estimate – fanned out across the city, snarling traffic, getting arrested, holding sidewalk teach-ins, and generally serving notice that after its brief winter hibernation, the

Most major Occupy encampments have been dispersed, but they live on in a flurry of lawsuits in which protesters are asserting their constitutional rights to free speech and assembly and challenging authorities’ mass arrests and use of force to break up tent cities.
Lawyers representing protesters have filed lawsuits — or are planning them — in state and federal courts from coast to coast, challenging eviction orders and what they call heavy-handed police tactics and the banning of demonstrators from public properties.
Some say the fundamental right of protest has been criminalized in places, with protesters facing arrest and charges while doing nothing more than exercising protected rights to demonstrate.

Busloads of Occupy activists have been arriving in Chicago to protest the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
"We're trying to bring a critical mass of people back to the Occupy movement," said Nicole Powers, an activist and managing editor of Suicide Girls, a website that has extensively chronicled the Occupy movement since it began on Wall Street. "We want to get mass involvement back into the Occupy movement as we move into an election season."
Protestors plan to gather in Daley Plaza on Friday and on Saturday for a march to the home of Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Sunday brings the climatic event: a march from Grant Park to the McCormick Place convention center, where NATO delegates will be meeting throughout the weekend.
The list of targets is smaller than it used to be. The Group of Eight was originally supposed to meet in Chicago this weekend, but White House officials scrapped the idea after word of the Occupy plans got out. Now the G8 is meet

It’s rare that a “new” iconic monster is born and becomes forever identifiable,—— no matter the variations, by generation after generation. So it was when George Romero created the ultimate “zombie” in his Night of the Living Dead in 1968. Zombie Apocalypse fans today may have never heard of George or seen the original “Night,” but the zombies they so love in fare like The Walking Dead owe their existence to Romero’s original vision.

The word is "pandemic".
And I can't say I like it.
This is rather natural in my case. I have worked in an epidemic clinic, at the laboratory. I know what micro-cosmos can cause.
Sometimes the Professor invited us to a lecture about one hour. We were of course rather triggered I mean one hour without work. Just relaxation. And still we were paid.
But we always got surprised.
This professor had something. And after just some seconds we were spellbound, and on a journey through micro-cosmos, through history, to today with all the modernity's. We were fascinated by the long fight against the monsters that lurked in micro-cosmos, as well as the long fight against the monsters in our own world that tried to stop evolution, and tried to hold humanity down in the mud. Sometimes I was surprised and wondered: Why do these people act like this?
When there was about ten minutes left the professor looked slowly over his shoulders as he feared something. H
The Flu of DeathAt the summer 2009, when I, like this summer (2010), was on a bike ride, there is amongst all one thing I remember, the news bills I saw on the newsstands about the fore coming flu of death, the Swine Flu. As soon as the schools would start the pandemy would be a fact. But in September the vaccine would comeThe Flu of Death5 years ago in Personal More Like This
However, the vaccine (Pandemrix) was delayed. As a columnist in a news paper wrote, "The vaccine is delayed, and that is the flu too" Finally in November (if I'm not wrong) the mass vaccination started, and that was in the last moment cause then the swine flu exploded. There were also some people that really gone sick. I think about thirty people died due to the Swine Flu in Sweden
But I don't know how many of them who where sick before. Some also died due to the vaccine. Moreover more than thousand die every year due t
