J. Paul Getty - The Liberation of Masterpieces as Open Content
The J. Paul Getty Museum has initiated an Open Content Program to share, freely and without restriction, as many of the Getty’s digital resources as possible.
A first sharing of 4,600 high-resolution images of the Museum’s collection, including many masterworks, has just been made available and all are free to use, modify, and publish for any purpose.
In a brilliant stroke, the Getty Museum has liberated one of the top collections of art in the world not just for access but for use. The museum is literally “beaming up” the great works in its collection as living resour

Space Shuttle program
NASA's Space Shuttle, officially called Space Transportation System (STS), is the United States government's current manned launch vehicle. The winged Shuttle Orbiter is launched vertically, usually carrying five to seven astronauts (although eight have been carried) and up to 50,000 lb (22 700 kg) of payload into low earth orbit. When its mission is complete, the Shuttle can independently move itself out of orbit (by means of its maneuvering thrusters) and re-enter the Earth's atmosphere. During descent and landing, the Shuttle Orbiter acts as a glider and makes a completely unpowered landing.
The Shuttle is the only winged manned spacecraft to achieve orbit and land, and the only reusable space vehicle that has ever made multiple flights into orbit. Its missions involve carrying large payloads to various orbits (including segments to be added to the Intern
SM845I mentioned recently a news article featuring Spitfire Mk.XVIII "SM845" which was soon to return to the air again after an accident in 2010. Anyway it seems that she was rolled out today at Duxford so that flight cannot be too far away. In the meantime we can all enjoy her beautiful silver livery. A Griffon powered, low back spitfire in silver, what more could you ask for, the perfect Spitfire. http://www.flickr.com/photos/64209520n05/11323901385/SM8451 year ago in Personal More Like This
Test Center 8.10 and dA team training gatheringThe latest test center will soon be up and laden with honour and a chance to bring glory to the emperor. It will also bring some interesting new features of sorts). But you knew that already.Test Center 8.10 and dA team training gathering1 year ago in Personal More Like This
That aside, I was thinking of having an All-Things-WOT dA group training room where members from all servers get to gather together and much about in activities such as Pz I C races (or whatever fast tank as long as everyone drives the same vehicle) or a T95-only battle (imagine the lols) maybe even a T92 arty only match (where everyone must go TD mode).
These are just a few of the ideas that are on the table but I'm open to other suggestions. However, the time at which this training room will run is open to discussion because we are of course all in different parts of the world. Personally, I'm fine with being up at 12-3 in the morning just to be able to enjoy something like this.
Another factor is the number of people who are interested. If you would like to see this happen then please post a

And yet there's more.As if the Canadian Lancaster, Two US based Dakotas, The Swedish Historic Flight Saab Viggen and Draken, F-35B, Red Bull B-25, P-38 and Corsair and the Super Constellation were not enough in terms of interesting and exciting overseas visitors to this years airshows here in the UK. Plus some new UK editions such as the Canberra PR.9 and return of TFC's Grumman Hellcat to the air. It seems that wasn't enough for us so the Farnborough International Airshow have gone and added the EADS operated Messerschmitt Me 262 reproduction to their flying display. Apparently she's going to fly in formation with one of the UK based Glostor Meteors. Having never seen one of these Messerschmitt Me 262s in the air yet that news made very pleasant reading for me today. And yet there's more.9 months ago in Personal More Like This
This is perfect example of the reason I don't complain when a much loved aircraft get sold and head over seas. Though for example the TFC P-47 and P-40B left our shores this year or in the case of the P-40 still waiting t

Nuances of an Annual Ritual
Which brings us to each year’s communal celebration of the passing of our lifetimes:
New Year’s Eve
So what did you “actually get done” in the past year? How closer are you to a grand goal in life? An assessment is made and then the inevitable Step 2 of the yearly process is engaged, which is often a word for word repeat of last year’s Step 2:
The New Year’s Resolution
There seem to be two main strategies that emerge at this point of facing the New Year, a “brand new morning.” The lone wolf quietly acknowledges goals not yet reached, and is even more secretive in the “new plan.” “I’ll show them,” becomes the new privat
Deltic Livery Suggestions. So, as some of you may have noticed, I've been making various doodles of Deltics in North American liveries (with the help of 2509-Silverlink who kindly let me use his image of DP1 as the basis), as they would have looked had English Electric received orders from abroad for the design. I was thinking that I would let you guys pick the liveries from now on, my only criteria is that they have to be from outside the UK.Deltic Livery Suggestions.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In case you've not seen them and to get the ball rolling, so far I have done:
Canadian Pacific (maroon and grey)
Canadian National (zebra stripes)
Via Rail (early blue and yellow)
Over to you......
Over Here!Other than the CWH's Avro Lancaster in August, we in the UK are also due a couple more heavies from across the pond this year to take part in various events, those being a pair of Douglas C-47 Skytrain/Dakotas, one from Oxford, Connecticut and another from Geneseo, New York, which are coming over here to be part of the D-Day 70th Anniversary commemorations this spring. From what I gather it seems one of them arrived at Coventry yesterday after the flight across. That being the Tradewind Aviation example from Oxford, Connecticut. There is a photograph of her here in the UK at Coventry having just arrived.Over Here!9 months ago in Personal More Like This
I shall hopefully be seeing her at IWM Duxford on the 24th and 25th May, at the museum's D-Day airshow along with the New York example and three more from the UK. Looks like it's going to be a great show. Fingers crossed for decent weather.
