Shortbread - sort of like marmite, you either hate it or love it. I have to be in the mood for it - but it is quite lovely. Generally, it originates from Scotland. Walkers Shortbread is actually Scotlands largest food exporter! Shortbread is fairly simple to make and aside from burning it, not much can go wrong. So if you've not tried making it before (or eating it) start now!

AHHH :D~~!Okay, first, I have to apologize for not being on for, like, two months. I was in China and I kind of went crazy lying around doing nothing.......ha....haha.....(and my bro says he's a witness lol).AHHH :D~~!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
second, I'd like to apologize for the 54+ notes in my inbox (and over 90 notes in my tumblr inbox. so...yeah). whenever I see a number that's higher than 10, i get this irrational fear and don't want to touch any of it (i still have over 1000 unread emails from the year i ditched it >.>;; ). So yes, sorry, I'll get to them eventually slowly, but....it's just really time-consuming >.<;;
Third(ly?), I'm sorry for the hiatus on the watcher's feature again @__@;; oh my god I feel the worst about that. I let my sub run out without finishing the features, so I feel extremely terrible for wasting ArtofAshes's subscription >_<;;~! sorry!! >_<;;

I've been playing Alien: Isolation for the last few weeks and it is scary as hell.
Alien Isolation Q&A with bradwright
Brad Wright, longtime deviant in the dA community, steps into the shoes (space boots) of Giger and Moebius as a concept designer for the Alien Isolation videogame. The game reportedly marks a return to the terror of the original “Alien” film in which scaring the audience to death was the goal, rather than the uncorking escalating levels of defensive firepower that defined the sequels.

Recently I've been thinking about drawing in general and what it means to me.
A certain old hag who paid a visit also helped, like in every good story. She asked me what I liked to do in my life. I told her my passion was drawing. The old hag replied that that was a hobby and asked again what I wanted to do. The little frog tried to explain that a passion is not a hobby at all.
Passion is not something that "makes us feel good when we do it", that would admittedly be a hobby.
Passion is something that makes us feel bad when we don't do it.
Physically bad. You can have love, money and health, but if you don't follow what your passion bids you to do you can never be happy. And, as egotistical as that will sound, if you don't at least try to be happy in your life, I'm not even sure if that life would be worth living. Unfortunately in this story the little frog doesn't win, nor the old hag dies...
But there's a point

It’s time for a tea break
Everyone has their little routines for arranging and breaking up their days.
The most interesting ones are those that give you a break from fixating on imminent deadlines, when problems are coming at you ten times every hour and you need to recalibrate a little just to breathe. There must be a moment to reorganize and process information. Counter–intuitively, “takin

PE Prose Basics: Revise and EditProse Basics Week is winding down now and hopefully you've learned a lot from the brilliant past articles. But, there's more to writing than just getting that first draft done, isn't there? That's where the next big crucial step comes in: revision.PE Prose Basics: Revise and Edit2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
The Art of Revising:
Revision is such a huge topic to cover, especially since there are many ways to go about it. You can do self-edits, which always are a good first step, or you can get outside revisions from peers. Both are good ideas to really get your work to be top notch. But, the big thing to remember is that there's more to just editing your work than cleaning up a few spelling and grammar mistakes. Revising also includes corrections to sentence flow, scenes, and sometimes overall plot. So, before we jump into some ways to edit, here are a few different terms of methods of editing that may be handy to know-- especially if you're asking a peer to help you with revisions.

Couple of days ago I came across a series of notes & quotes made my various Japanese artists on how to improve drawing. This was not really an article per say but more of cut & paste collection from different source, so the artists had very different background varying from manga-ka, animators & illustrators (including general illustration). While some of them did have specific approach in development, majority of them had 1 thing in common. Which is to weight the practice in quantity, in other word "draw as much as you can".
To me this was rather obvious cause I some what went through this practice earlier in my as I became so called "Artist". (Well that's what people call me and not what I personally feel...) Although the difference is that initially I didn't do it because I wanted to improvement but I just picked up pencil because I like drawing. But in any case their was couple of

1. Saving your .psd with all layers hidden makes a smaller file compared to saving it with all layers visible.
2. You can use the Crop Tool to quickly increase the canvas size of an image by holding down Ctrl + Alt whilst dragging the Crop Tool outside the current canvas.
3. If you want to see only one of your layers at a time, hold down Alt whilst clicking the eye icon of the layer. (do it again to show all layers again)
4. Holding down Alt while in a dialog box turns the Cancel button into a Reset button, so you can reset the values back to default.
5. If you want to just quickly check a very heavy .psd file, you can hold down Shift + Alt while clicking the Open button. This way Photoshop will open a flattened version of the file.
6. You can change the gray background that surrounds your image with the Paint Bucket Tool, just hold down Shift and make click on the background.
7. Not a very unknown tip, but if y
How to: AnatomyHuman anatomy is, for sure, one of the hardest things to draw. But at the same time it's one of the most interesting things to draw, because... hey... we love making characters, and it's nice if they at least look a bit like a human being. I'm still far from perfect at drawing the human body, yet I've accumulated some very useful tips, tricks and websites. How to: Anatomy7 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Drawing from life
Drawing from life is awesome!
Look for life drawing classes in your environment, or if they're not available; ask your friends to pose for you. Go have a drink in the city when the weather is nice, and sketch people passing by. There's nowhere you learn more about human anatomy than by observing and sketching real people. There's only one downside to this; dynamic poses are tricky, as it's hard for any model to hold a difficult pose for a long time.
And no... drawing (nearly) naked people in a drawing class isn't awkward. I

I have recently come across a most disturbing phenomenon in my studies of the Diabolic Infestation of the Soul. It seems there is a most frightening psychological conundrum when considering the concept of demonic possession even the most remote possibility of reality upon our earthly plane is the notion that just believing it may be true could very likely be the spark needed for the Demon to discover, seek out, and ultimately inhabit its next vessel of evil: You.

What Makes Your Character A Sue?Warning: very long journalWhat Makes Your Character A Sue?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, I've seen so much crap about Mary/Gary Sues around the internet. It's not just on deviantART, it's posted anywhere where you can write your own character. Y!Gal, Livejournal, FF.Net. Anywhere. But there's something that a lot of people don't understand when it comes to character writing. And that's development.
What makes a good character? A believable personality. A believable background. A character that readers can understand and relate to on certain levels. When you pick up a book and read it, you'll notice that many things are different compared to fanfics that people post online. One thing is that EVERY character could be picked apart and called a Sue from the narrow minded Fandom Sue Police.
For now, I will specifically talk about the Transformers fandom. Mostly because it's what I work with and what I read the most during my internet escapades. Keep in mind that all of what I am saying is based off four years of knowledge and statistics

In the beginning when the world was created, Father Time gave his three children a world to look after. Isis, the sister and the youngest, was given the sky to care for. Rikus, the younger brother, was given the land to watch over. And Altus, the oldest brother, was given the ocean to protect. When a one-thousand year feud broke out between the once peaceful siblings, it caused chaos in the small world that was once in their protection. Each sibling had a native species from their respective terrains to guard as well as the land they owned. With the siblings fighting, the races from the sky, land, and sea soon followed. Now after a millennium, the world is dying. One young boy from the sky named Ari must emba

Notes on Character Design
I received the question pictured below at my tumblr blog. In case it's useful to anyone here, I decided to go ahead and use this otherwise dormant journal to share the article I put together in response.
Character design and drawing are tome-sized topics and even if I had all the answers (I don't - I have a lot to learn), I'm not sure I could communicate them effectively. Here are some thoughts an ideas that might help, though.
