With technology constantly evolving and becoming a piece of people's lives, we are becoming more accustomed to seeing nature's wonders on a screen, rather than in real life. My primary motive behind the image was to show the contrast between nature and the modern first world lifestyle. I hope nature will one day become more of a priority than materialism.
Everything in the image was photographed and digitally composited by myself.
Innovation generally refers to renewing, changing or creating something new, or more effective. I wanted to try something different from what I have previously entered - something that applies more to everyone than just myself, but still a concept based change more so than physical.
The light bulbs, as they are often associated, are symbolic of 'ideas.'
In this piece, I have gone for the concept of taking one thing and putting it in a different and abnormal place to where it would usually belong. My aim is to make the viewer think outside the box, to consider all possibilities and to accept something unusual as it's seen without question, even if it may be completely 'out of the norm.'
Our worlds can change in the blink of an eye, with our mood, or through our perspective. The idea conveyed here, is to not judge a book by its cover and automatically dismiss an idea, but to welcome something different and have faith in all its possibilities. Open your mind to something new.
This could apply to something as small as a new idea that may or may not be justifiable, as a dream that may seem too big to reach and even as accepting another person for who they are - no matter what beliefs, culture, style/looks or disabilities they may have. View the bigger picture around you, establish your own personality and stand away from conforming to the crowd, believe in all the possibilities, don't be afraid to try something new and unusual and accept things for what they are without stereotyping and judgement. If you can believe in your dreams no matter how impossible they may seem to others and test the limits of your ideas, you can surely achieve anything. Perspective and state of mind is the most prominent way to change your world for the better, find a positive & accepting outlook, be innovative.
Change your world, by changing your perspective.
I hope this impacts your perspective for the better and that you enjoy my artwork, thanks for your consideration!
We can make a big change not only at home and in the society but in the entire world if we help one another. Life would be easier, happier and even more wonderful if we can make a change within ourselves to do what is right and good for us and to other people as well. No walls high enough if we work hand in hand.
I took the photo of the brick wall using my Canon 550D. I transfer the photo to my iPad and painted the ants, stem, leaves, spaghetti noodle and meatball using Procreate painting app for the iPad..
"the bridge…the one glimmering light…the clouds hanging grimly in the sky…the misty colours pierced gently..." These were some of the thought processes going through my mind as I waited till dusk in order to take the darker more cosmopolitan photo of Sydney.
I had seen so many bright, sunny pictures of Sydney (a cliche i`m guilty of myself) whilst the night photos seemed to try and replicate cities such as New York. In creating this piece I wanted to avoid that, and capture a picture that is 100% Sydney and 100% unique. My interpretation, my change, my view of the City
So one train ride to Milson`s Point, a few hours waiting till dusk and many pieces of camera equipment dropped in the harbour later I perched my camera up onto the wooden sleepers, waited for the boats to clear, focused and shot.
