I'm trying to build up the profile and starting if off by offering affordable commissioned arts and prioritize on Original Characters.
Promoting them in this experimental pseudo-3D style that I've been working on.

For example a character created in roleplaying games, fanfic characters or the very character that is born within your imagination.
You really want to breath life to them to share a part of yourself materi

1. Hello! For the beginning, could you tell us something about yourself?
I am a full time professional artist and create work exclusively influenced by the writings of J.R.R Tolkien. I am originally from Chester, England but have lived in sunny Southern Spain for the last 6 years. I have exhibited and sold work world wide and work primarily in oils, acrylic and clay.
2. When did you read Tolkien's books for the first time, and what impression did they leave in you?
I suppose it all started from a very early age when I first
PE: How to Use Masking Fluid Traditional Art WeekPE: How to Use Masking Fluid 1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I use lots of watercolors in my mixed media works and people once in a while ask me how do I paint backgrounds so that objects or characters do not get painted at the same time. I often just paint background around a character quickly with free hand, but if I want to be more precise and when there are lots of jagged edges or tiny details to go round, I use masking fluid to protect those.
Here is a little tutorial how I use masking fluid in my mixed media works! You can use same tips in your pure watercolor artworks – the fluid still works similarly.
What is masking fluid?
Masking fluid is a handy tool if you want to leave some areas unpainted when painting with watercolors. It allows you to paint freely over the masked areas so you can avoid painting around complicated characters – instead you can just paint over them.
Masking fluid made of rubber, latex, ammonia and in some case there is also pigment added on
The Pre-Raphaelite BrotherhoodThe BrotherhoodThe Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded in 1848, London, by William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Later on it was joined by William Michael Rossetti, James Collinson, Frederic George Stephens and Thomas Woolner. Their plan was to change art by removing the mechanistic approach which appeared after Raphael and Michelangelo. The seven considered Raphael's paintings having a corrupting influence on art, hence the name.
Intentions and thoughts
The Brotherhood wanted to return to Quattrocento Italian art for its detail, strong colours and compositions. They published a periodical, The Germ, to promote their ideas and creations and recorded their debates in the Pre-Raphaelite Journal. They specifically opposed the founder

September Song Contest--WINNERSSeptember Song Contest--WINNERS2 years ago in Personal More Like This
We are proud to announce the winners of the contest!
This piece had a very clear story behind it that aligned with the meaning of the song, and the expressions on the characters' faces are very well done.
This would be a song difficult for many to draw to, but we think they matched the tone of the song well with the idea they had in this picture. Cleverly designed characters.
Though there's no obvious story with this one, it's arguably one of the most beautifully done entries and the colors, setting, and character all portray an obvious emotion and represent the song well.
Winners, it is your responsibility to collect your prizes. Contact all the donors listed below to claim them. Thank you to everyone who participated and thanks for your patience during the voting process. We hope you look forward to our next contest, to be revealed soon!!
Why are we slower?About a month ago I finally got to meet an art hero of mine, Klaus Janson, a well known pro who's been in the industry for over 30 years. A mutual friend introduced us, and we hit it off right away. The group of us went through the Village hitting pub after pub, and soon I was drunk enough to ask Klaus something that had been bugging me.Why are we slower?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I asked him if modern comic artists are, on average, slower than we used to be. He said yes, and I agreed.
From the Golden Age until the 80s, pencillers were generally expected to turn in at least two pages a day, while an inker was expected to turn in around 3-4. There were a handful of exceptions, I'm sure, but most of the artists could pump out pages like human printing presses. In the current comic industry, it's completely reversed: while a handful of artists can still hit this speed, the vast majority can't. Pencillers today struggle to produce a page-per-day, while inkers (those who still ink with ink) are hitting around 2.
So what happened? I'v

I work personally with over 200 consumers with a wide variety of physical and intellectual disability, ranging from moderate to severe. When I watched the episode that gave Derpy lines, I did not see any strong correlation to actual disability. It didn't even enter my mind.
Who are these people who would assume to be offended on somebody else's behalf. About a cartoon show. On the internet. Why don't you go volunteer? Maybe then you'll actually learn the difference between silliness in a cartoon, and actual disability.
There are multiple people with disabilities who have taken a similar stance to myself-- who are actually offended that all these internet activists are declaring for them what they should be offended by.
Many of these same people are also poo -pooing the Invisible Children video just because it became successful. Nobody was mad at them when n

At first, I thought this was a charitable effort, with Blackberry as its corporate sponsor. Under that supposition, I disapproved, and expressed my disapproval, but very mildly. Now, watch me disapprove rather more forcefully (but still quite politely, because I'm repressed, that way):
The Keep Moving Project is NOT a charity, with Blackberry as its corporate sponsor. It's an advertising campaign for Blackberry, from which Neil Gaiman expects to make a small profit, which he will donate to an unspecified cause. So...problems:
1) Contributors don't know what they'd be contributing TO, beyond Blackberry's continued success. Does Neil Gaiman's idea of a worthy cause coincide with yours? Who knows? (There may be somewhere online where one might discover the intended beneficiary, but I couldn't find it

When Being Human Just Isn't Enough:icontechgnotic:When Being Human Just Isn't Enough4 years ago in Personal More Like This
The allure of Anthro Art is obvious to anyone who ever “owned” and loved a pet. (Only those who have never loved and shared lives with a pet speak of pet “ownership”!) Once a bond has been formed between a human and an animal the rigid distinctions between what is human and what is animal begin to fracture.
The definition of “being” becomes suddenly far more expansive. And soon the bonded human begins feeling spiritual affinities with the “animal” that are undeniably powerful and as “real” as any felt with other humans. The desire to leave all the lies and hypocrisies of human society behind and join in with a simpler and somehow more “honest” society of different beings in nature can become palpable and intense. “The grass is always greener…” and, oh!, to scamper across it on four liberating paws!
Shared Studio SpacesThis is something I've been thinking a lot about. The fact of the matter is, as much as it's awesome, I don't work my best from home. I want to be able to "go to work" in the morning, see people, do my thing, and then come home. There are too many complications and distractions working from home, and too few opportunities to participate in the world as a human being. And I know of co-working spaces, to be sure there are loads of options in San Francisco, but having visited a bunch of them, there aren't any just right. I've always had a fantasy of starting a shared studio space, a small one, not a big vaulty warehouse style thing, maybe a half-dozen or like 8 people, not necessarily illustrators just self-proclaimed "nerds." I love the idea of coming to work and seeing my (sort-of) co-workers, and then getting to "get down to business" with work that really matters to me. We could have a little kitchenette, andShared Studio Spaces4 years ago in Personal More Like This

1. Selling yourself as a beginner
I found a prime example of this in a forum for artists seeking work. The thread title was „Starting-out artist looking for a chance",, and the thread told that the artist is „looking for a client for whom I may draw" and has „just graduated from art college".
We all were at this point once, but usually it takes too long to realize that „beginner" is the wrong mindset, even if you are one. Such statements sound like excuses and are guaranteed to weaken your position. Don't make excuses. Do not justify your work, and do not justify your prices. This is a tricky habit to acquire since we're not very confident by nature, but remember the image you wan

Women ArtistsThe other day, I attempted to put together a huge list of some professional and semi-pro women artists over on my tumblr, because it seems like too often women get overlooked when it comes to being honored and recognized. This year, I was incredibly honored to be nominated for a Hugo award in the Best Professional Artist category, but I was a little shocked to find out there hadn’t been another woman nominated in that category since Rowena Morrill in 1986. That’s more than a little ridiculous, considering there are so many women artists out there who are all amazing, who offer unique points of view and design solutions, and who need more visibility and recognition. While putting this list together, I was really excited to find tons of new artists I'd never heard of before.Women Artists2 years ago in Personal More Like This
