RIP - H.R. GigerKooky Swiss artist and master of f**ked-up imagery, H.R. Giger, has died: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27390345RIP - H.R. Giger1 year ago in Personal More Like This
His work was brought to prominence, obviously, by the design of the titular Alien in Ridley Scott’s film, but he was also more or less the godfather of “biomechanical” science fiction/horror illustration.
I can’t say I was ever a real fan of his work. Most of it made my flesh crawl. It was art, but it was utterly repulsive.
Why mention his passing, then? Well, love or hate his style, its effect on the science fiction/horror genres is undeniable, and they wouldn’t be the same without him.
Godzilla: Rulers of Earth to end with #25After 2 solid years of hard work and fan support, GODZILLA: RULERS OF EARTH will be ending with issue 25, to premiere in June, 2015. Don't worry though, we're going out in style! Chris Mowry is crafting a 40-page finale, with art duties by yours truly :iconkaijusamurai:, :iconzornow:, and :iconpriscillatr:!Godzilla: Rulers of Earth to end with #253 months ago in Personal More Like This
In a perfect world, I'd opt to keep ROE going indefinitely, but if it had to end, it was a hell of a journey, and I'll be making more personal stuff to celebrate the series in the later months. And it won't be the end of Godzilla at IDW - as long as the fans want it, they're keep making it! And the same goes for me - if you want to see more of me and the rest of the Rulers team at IDW, be sure to let them know
After Rulers, I'll be focusing on a few other projects for a while...
Like maybe a certain art series I've neglected for a long time yet?
Strange and exotic foods. The USA is the loudest nation on Earth. Its culture is presented to the rest of the planet in all forms of media, and has been for the decades that I've been parked in front of the TV. Kids in remote corners of the world grow up watching Sesame Street. I did, and as a result say "Zee" instead of "Zed", which pissed off my English teacher something fierce.Strange and exotic foods.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For those that take my jibes, barbs and sarcasm too seriously: I have no problem with that kind of cultural permeation. Far from it. I find it rather fascinating.
It has however led to a few "WTF?" moments. Questions as to what those crazy Yanks are talking about, as there is nothing comparable elsewhere. They're never in regards to anything major. Just little cultural quirks that have never escaped beyond the borders and, as such, are seen by outsiders as a total f**king mystery.
Things like "S'mores".
"S'more" is a word I've heard and read since the 80s.
"Let's make S'mores"
"Can we have S'mores?"

In August 2003, UDON Entertainment made its first foray into publishing with the release of Street Fighter #0. The realization of UDON founder Erik Ko’s desire to pay tribute to the video game series he loved, Street Fighter quickly became one of the bestselling comics in the industry and marked UDON as a company with a strong commitment to top-quality art and writing.
That commitment now culminates in UDON’s newest release, its 150th published book, and the 10th Anniversary of UDON’s Street Fighter comics: STREET FIGHTER ORIGINS: AKUMA!

Busy Animatin'Hello, everyone!!Busy Animatin'1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've been really busy with animation projects and such. In fact since January I've been doing nothing but animate! I've been working specifically for a client, who's been incredibly great and congenial. So far the projects have been secret so I can't really show them yet.
BUT, I can show you another one of the projects I got to be a part of. My good friend :iconpaultervoorde: animated the latest episode "Fun Dead", and I got to help as an assistant cleanup for a couple scenes, Matt trying to get the monkey and the Petting Zoo.
I'll show more animation work later, just as soon as my client gives the approval.
I miss making digital illustrations, but at least I'm working!! >:3
See you guys soon!~
Your TakeI love coming up with with new takes on classic characters but I thought "why not hear what other people can come with". So write a description below in two sentences or less of your original take on a classic character. I'll pick from those that I feel are the most original and somewhat logical and draw it up. Then I'll color it. Can't wait to see what yah come with and I'll see you next Thurs.Your Take2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Tracing gets you nowhere.I remember when I was a kid, I'd record Saturday morning cartoons, play them back, pause the image, put a piece of paper over the screen and trace my favourite characters.Tracing gets you nowhere.6 months ago in Personal More Like This
Now this was really hard in the VHS era, because a paused image on a VHS is usually either broken up or shakes so much that you’ll have some kind of fit if you look at it too long, it depended on how cheap and sh*tty your machine was.
But I worked really hard at it, man. I spent ages getting the linework just right, I was so careful, and when I peeled the page from the static cling of the bulbous, cathode ray tube screen, the character looked exactly right on the page. And you wanna know what I took away from that endeavour? What all that effort taught me?
Jack f**king sh*t.
You don’t pick up or develop any skills by tracing. You don’t devise and perfect your own methods by tracing. You do not progress as an artist by tracing. All you get is a loss of credibility, especially in this day and age, bec

Lived Long and ProsperedThe great Leonard Nimoy has died, age 83.Lived Long and Prospered2 months ago in Personal More Like This
There’s not really much I can write about the chap or his impact on sci-fi culture that you’re not already aware of. We all knew and loved him as Spock from Star Trek. Hell, I named one of my webcomic’s characters after him.
Nimoy never forgot about his fans, either, and how it is they who ensured his lasting popularity. It’s telling that it was he who cameoed in the recent Trek films and not Shatner.
Being the awesome man he was, his final words to the public (by way of twitter) were “LLAP”.
“Live Long and Prosper”.
DARN IT, NOT ALREADY!!*Sigh* Well, last year we had a huge amount of deaths of cool, famous people... I was hoping this year would be better, but in the first two months of 2015, we've already lost kitty0706 and now Gary Owens. (And my hamster, on an unrelated note.)DARN IT, NOT ALREADY!!2 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've paid respects to kitty0706 (SirElliot24)in several places, but not here yet, I suppose. In honor of him, I'd like to post my cartoon version of my favorite video of his... that he cheered on. It really inspired me when a guy as popular as him actually took the time to appreciate something I worked on. I still feel like I owe him something... Rest in peace, Elliot.
Gary Owens was a legendary voiceover artist and voice actor, who's famous for being the host of "Laugh-In," as well as the voices of Roger Ramjet, the original Space Ghost, and one of my favorite cartoon heroes ever,... Powdered Toast Man. And even the principal on 2 Stupid Dogs. I'd just like to say that he inspired some of my voice acting over the past few years, and I'll
Nothing to see, here. There are only a handful of names on my “block” list. You have to have been a monumental prick in order to earn yourself a place on it. I don’t hide negative comments about my work nor do I block people that write them. It’d make the world a very boring place if you edit it to show nothing but praise. The barbs are what make it interesting and provide points to debate and/or argue.Nothing to see, here.4 months ago in Personal More Like This
I monitor content on DA via “browse” as it changes regularly and has work that the community thinks to be high quality. It’s generally where I spot artists whose material I want to see more of. Over the past few days, though, after posting a response to DA inexplicably choosing the letter “Z” to be their logo, people mentioned that the “Super Pretentious” cartoon had surpassed DA’s own “Boldly” journal on the “What’s Hot” list. Thinking that to be funny as hell, I switched to “What’s Hot” t
Sherlock vs ElementaryThe concept of taking the world's greatest detective out of his Victorian era setting and dropping him into 21st Century London shouldn't have worked. It should have failed as miserably as I thought it would.Sherlock vs Elementary3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Hooooo. Was I proven wrong on that one.
The scant six episodes of Sherlock contain some of the best material the BBC has ever produced and proved that the detective can work his deductive wizardry in any time period.
Which is probably why CBS have gone all Chinese and are ripping it off.
When I heard that there was going to be an "American version" of the show; the eye twitched but didn't bat. This happens, and often HAS to happen. A show must fit with the scheduling, and US series are a lot longer than those on British TV, so things have to be stretched.
THEN I learned that it's NOT a remake of BBC's Sherlock, but a brand new series called "Elementary", which is "radically" different because it's set in New York.
Unsurprisingly, the Beeb are a bit miffed by this.
In this, wholly
