It is with great pleasure that I announce the release of Ponyscape v0.2! This is the continuation of my work on tweaking Inkscape to add new features and make it more user friendly! This new version adds a few very useful features, and updates the base to the latest revision of Inkscape. I also was able to fix a few bugs and submitted a patch to upstream Inkscape (which got accepted!). I've been working on this version, and have been concurrently working on a couple of vectors which I will hopefully get around to uploading soon.
I have compiled binary packages for both Windows and Linux Mint 14 (should also work on Ubuntu 12.10). To use, download the zip file and extract it wit

For f**k’s sake. Terrorists are not under your bed. They are not hiding around every corner. They are not in the seat next to you. The few that are out there only win if you start to think they might be.
In 2005, a gaggle of weak-minded twits blew themselves up on the London Underground. I and 1.2 BILLION other passengers per year still use it. Could another attack happen? Of course. But so could fire, flood, collapse or accident. You could get hit by a bus as you exit the station! There are a thousand-and-one terrible things that could happen to you today and, I assure you, unless you live in some third world sh*thole, the odds of a random yahoo causing you physical harm for political or religious reason is one of the least likely to occur.

Improved DMCA Reporting SystemImproved DMCA Reporting System2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Hello, deviants! In an effort to keep the community informed and to provide the best possible experience for our members, we wanted to inform you of changes to our reporting system.
DeviantART is dedicated to protecting our artists, and in an effort to be able to more quickly handle complaints by deviants who have had their rights infringed on, we have changed the way we receive complaints from the artist or the copyright holder.
In the past, we took reports by the copyright holder in two different ways: An informal report via the Report Violation tool and a formal complaint via contacting the Help Desk. While both of these methods were effective, they presented many setbacks.
The informal report did not gather all the necessary information for a formal copyright complaint and was prone to misuse by well-meaning deviants who would attempt to report images they did not own the copyright to

Fascinating armor video.Okay, I'll admit it I'm a history nerd. Especially military history, which is why I wince so often when I see military affairs portrayed in films, television, video games, classic RPG's and comics particularly when it comes to the wearing of armor and how it restricts the movement of the wearer. Many artist and writers still insist on portraying Medieval Europe combat as this place where great armored tortoises shambled around the countryside and crashed into each other while swinging clumsy hunks of metal. This was the impression that 19th Century historians created and until recently Hollywood did a fine job of reinforcing.Fascinating armor video.8 months ago in Personal More Like This
However in recent decades there has been a concerted effort by many to rediscover many of the lost and forgotten martial arts of Europe and to conduct evaluations of the arms and armor worn from Ancient Greece to Renaissance Europe. Recently my wife :iconSmudgeDragon: showed me this video which really does show the degree mobility possible with late Me

How Malware Works Via Banner Ads
As many deviants know, deviantART has been working hard to combat malicious banner ads that infiltrate
our advertising network, and we've previously addressed this issue in
and August 2011.
In our ongoing effort to keep the deviantART community safe, we wanted to share the following
video that explains how malicious ads inundate the Web.

Malware advertising is an Internet-wide problem that affects many of the Net's top sites.
The Bravo Network, Brony Doc and Purple TinkerThe Bravo Network, Brony Doc and Purple Tinker2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm guessing most folks have or will be hearing about the Bravo Network's The People's Couch segment that took aim at the Brony Documentary. Lord knows our fandom- ANY fandom is ripe for all manner of comedy, critique and parody. Pony fans are at the same time remarkably creative, kind and fun individuals as well as sometimes awkward, tempestuous, and prone awesome and terrible levels of drama- Just like fans of everything else under the sun (and on Tumblr)
I'm not going to link to the video here because, frankly it's gross and I don't want to touch it with a 10 foot network cable. But its out there, you can find it on YouTube easily. The format seems to be a group vapid "Average Joes" sitting in front of a television and offering running commentary on whatever they're watching. In other words, it's what millions of 10 year-olds already do on YouTube, except with less professionalism and humor.

First of all, WOO HOO! Season 4 will officially begin a month earlier than expected, November 23 2013! Incidentally that's also the date of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, so my geek levels will be going through the damn roof that day! SO EXCITING! Here's the official word over at Entertainment Weekly.
This weekend- tomorrow, in fact- I will have a table at Steel City Con here in Pittsburgh. I won't have my usual gigantic table of art and stuff, instead I'll have an assortment of buttons, prints, and a few decorative bottles on hand. I'll also be sharing the table with my friend :iconstr4yk1tt3n: so be sure to stop by and say hello!
Next weekend is the truck-load of stress that is Bronycon. So much to do
Floored. So I was just going thru a folder on my desktop that contains pretty much every single piece of fan art I've gotten since this whole pony craze began. And I sat back and stopped and realized - holy hell, this is just...amazing. I mean, every time I get something new, I am so flattered at the fact that somebody would want to take their time out to draw something for *me*. It boggles my mind, but I love each and every one of them...regardless of skill level.Floored.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I just had a moment where I just felt completely moved with happiness at the thoughtfulness and generosity...and I just wanted to say thank you AGAIN to everyone and anyone who has taken time out of their daily lives to be creative and share that with me. It means the world.
Keep it up
About Alicorn Twilight (and Recent comments)Well, here's the scoop-About Alicorn Twilight (and Recent comments)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Get used to it, because she's here to stay. And not just in the show.
We're introducing the updated version of season three's Twilight Sparkle into the comics as well.
We're asked about 5th person at our tables: "what do you think?" "Why did they do that?" "Are you gonna.." etc.
Since we work hand in hand with Hasbro, we never had any intention of NOT updating Twilight for the books as well.
And quite frankly... we are all about it!
Neither Katie Cook nor myself understand the hatred going on for having Twilight become a princess. Katie has made an outstanding point- Twilight may be the only popular character to have EARNED her crown... she worked for it, suffered for it, and it was awarded. She didn't marry into it, wasn't born into it (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine, etc etc). That gives little girls a character that WORKED FOR WHAT SHE EARNED. One helluva example I think. And for Katie, with a little girl and another on the way... that's a great t

Copic Markers and Pony colorsI get a LOT of questions regarding what colors I use where when it comes to the ponies, and I keep saying I'm gonna make a little guide. Well, let's give it a shot.Copic Markers and Pony colors2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the majority of my covers, I use Copic markers to color. Copics are light-fast, alcohol markers... not unlike a classic school marker, but higher quality. I prefer Copic over other brands primarily for a few reasons: Variable tips (markers, fine, brush, etc), better blending, and they can be refilled! This is the BIG selling point to me... this means you can buy the marker once, and continue to refill. It also means you can custom blend colors should you desire. Copics also guarantee that if you buy Y00 yellow, and then buy another down the line, the colors will match. I've bought the same marker color from other brands and had them not match. I will use other brands here and there for very specific colors or effects, but Copic is 99% of my marker work.
So... when I do a cover or whatever, I do basic ink lines first wit

A Guide on How to Give a CritiqueBeing a writer and seeing so many….um…”critiques” here on dA, I now feel obligated to make a small guide that will be read by few, and taken into consideration by fewer. But all the same, it needs to be made, and if we are lucky, this will help at least some people. Now before I start, let me make this clear. You don’t need to be a writer to give a good critique, and you don’t even need to know the language perfectly (although it helps…a lot). There are a lot of things you need, but being a writer is certainly not one of them. I’m doing it in small little parts because for some reason, people like big letters that stick out when they’re reading, and they also like things being separated, so boom, there you go.A Guide on How to Give a Critique4 months ago in Personal More Like This
Part 1: Patience and Observation
Now what in the world could this mean for giving a critique? It’s rather simple. If you give a picture a quick once over, you’ll not get close to actu
An Incredible Weekend At Nightmare Nights DallasAn Incredible Weekend At Nightmare Nights Dallas2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I had an absolutely wonderful and unforgettable weekend at Nightmare Nights Dallas. I can't say enough about everyone involved, how much fun I had, how kind and gracious EVERYONE was. Best of all, the convention raised an incredible sum of money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
I am awed by this community's sense of giving. Fandoms do not exist in a vacuum. There will never be an end to drama, bad behavior, petty disagreement and factionalism. That's being a geek and a fan and part of a vibrant, opinionated and enthusiastic community- good AND bad. But we can feel good knowing that when this group of miniature equine aficionados set our minds to something good and vital and important it gets done in a big way.
Thanks to everyone who attended, who came out and made this weekend an incredib

New Username Symbols
With 13,000 new deviants joining deviantART each day, we want to ensure everyone's user experience is seamless. A common question from new and old deviants alike is: "What do username symbols mean?" Over the years, as we’ve surveyed deviants, we’ve found that very few understand symbols.
As part of our ongoing process to make the user experience cleaner and more intuitive, we've launched a new set of username symbols designed to help easily identify deviant-types.

I don't know if you heard about it, but there was a small, intimate pony meetup this past weekend called Bronycon! And I was there! And it was AMAZING!
I've been back home in Pittsburgh for a full day now and I remain completely wiped out. As I sit here and attempt to compile my thoughts and experiences into one coherent I realize there is just so much say, too many friends to thank, too many moments of excitement and wonder and awesomeness!
The main thing I need to express, above anything else, is how grateful I am that so many of you...heck, seemingly ALL of you took the time to visit my booth, buy everything but the table itself, hug me, get my autograph, and altogether just make me feel like a million bits. I know I talk a lot about how much your support of my art and encouragement has meant to me over the past year, but this weekend was the most incredibly moving and tangible expression of friendship I've ever experience
