So, I've had quite a few people request some different Octamum mothering Vinyl images over the past week, and whilst it would have been to much at the moment for me to sit down and produce each one individually, I did manage to get round to doodling them on the train the other night.
It surprising how good this was for stress relief actually. I was almost at breaking point with a certain woman who wouldn't stop her kids running up and down the carriage screaming and banging. And anyone who knows me well knows I hardly ever snap out, so it was quite bad to say the least!
"Vinyl, it's 11PM, my wife's in bed. Why haven't you taken that get up off yet?" "In short, once Octamum gets a pony into certain get up, she sure knows how to make sure they can't get out of it" "Yeah, she's done that to me a few times..."
Ages back someone suggest the idea that Vinyl and Octadad probably drown their sorrows due to some of Octamum's...habits. I really liked the idea of that and kept on meaning to draw it, so, several months later here it is. Also, stallions develop stubble now so it seems.
It's funny, but after this I'm rather tempted to do a series of comics of them just sat together drinking, discussing the random things. Any thoughts on that?
And Octamum's mothering of Vinyl continues. It's starting to scare me a little!
It's funny, but when ever I see one of those old prams all I can think about is a scene from the book "Danny the Champion of the World" by Roahl Dahl, where one of the characters is seen running down a country lane with one secretly filled with pheasants that have been drugged with sleeping pills, and the pheasants start to wake up and fly out of it! XD
That book is definitley worth a read
Also, for the record, I'm over the moon with how Octamum and the pram turned out in the first panel. I might actually try and enlarge that and turn it into a print
Oh Octamum, where will this madness end? Besides a possible restraining order from Vinyl, that is?
So requested this after the 'Baby Talk' comic, but to be truthfully honest, I almost didn't upload this given some people reactions to that piece. However, she convinced me it'd be a good thing to upload it, so good on you Gift Wrap!
Also, this actually acts as a nice set up to a sort of 'semi-conclusion' to the whole Octamum and Vinyl scratch 'story arch' I sort of had going here!
You can tell Vinyl obviously had no say in this matter, just look at how Octmum has pinned her forehooves down! Something tells me it might backfire on her when Vinyl no doubt vomits in a split second after this, but then again that may just give her more of an excuse to mother her.
Fact: This was originally meant to have come straight after the 'Unexpected Guests' comic as a sort of sequel, alas I was detained by other matters. It does however work rather nicely on its own anyway.
Also, I'm still unbelievably happy with how the Vinyl in the fourth panel turned out. I had such trouble thinking of how to sketch that.
Oh Vinyl, your attempts to lure Octavia to you are fruitless! Also, Octamum probably doesn't want her husband to know that Mares are supposed to be the ones wearing socks!
Well, I did promise a comic at 1000 watchers, didn't I. This would've been online sooner, alas, someone keeps on setting off the fire alarm tonight. The wardens have now worked out which flat it's coming from (Not mine!) and they're waiting to see who owns up in there!
I finally gave in to all the requests for Vinyl's mother to make an appearance. But it came with so many problems on my part. I told myself I wasn't going to design her to be similar to Vinyl, then Vinyl's brother was shown in the IDW comics, and I couldn't get the whole idea of a white unicorn family with different coloured hairstyles out of my head. So after working out that seemed to be the only way to go, I opted to give her a far different hairstyle from her children.
Then I went and had a massive argument with myself about how Vinyl should address her mother. Seriously. 'Mother' seemed far too formal for Vinyl, and no doubt there would be an argument if I used either the the 'Mum' or 'Mom' term based on spelling, so I settled for 'Mama', mainly because it's funny, and also because it really hints at Vinyl being a mummies girl, contrary to her attitude when she's performing.
And let's not even get onto the subject of naming her! XD
