Keep It Colloquial - Contest Results!Alright, I've finally gotten around to decision making. You guys really made me smile with these entries. That being said, I had a VERY generous deviant to donate an absurdly wonderful amount of points to this contest at the last minute. He's asked to remain anonymous, but with his help I was able to increase all the prizes AND give y'all who submitted an extra wallop of points just for giving the prompt a go. This made me ultra happy because I had such a hard time judging, and really felt all of y'all did such a good job. Make sure to scroll all the way down because there's another epic awesome contest to enter hosted by the ever-so-lovely LiliWritesKeep It Colloquial - Contest Results!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

I spent the first few hours of my new year with literature and Pokemon X. We'll get to the literature later. Right now, I've been enjoying the latest entry in the Pokemon franchise. I don't know if I've gotten better, or the games have gotten easier, but I'm not having as much trouble catching the stupid things as I used to. Then again, it sure is nice of the developers to put someone near the beginning that gives you False Swipe
I've heard from Doc that he has to wear a brace on his arm for another month before he can start therapy. He is getting better, but it's slow going. Nothing I can do about it, though I'd least like to help keep him entertained while he's incapacitated. Hence a basket full of movies and stuff.
Last time we talked, I spent most of the conversation explaining dA to him Among some other Internet stuff. I'll probably end up linking this feature to him; I told him what I was working on and he was interested and that c
Epilepsy Awareness Day March 26th 2013The Purple TruthEpilepsy Awareness Day March 26th 20132 years ago in Art Features More Like This
March 26, known to the epileptic community as Purple Day, is a day to promote understanding and teach others the signs of epilepsy and seizures. As one of the most common neurological conditions in the world, directly affecting 65 million people globally, and with 1 out of 10 people having suffered a seizure in their lifetime, this condition has a real presence in our lives. What is epilepsy though?
Epilepsy is defined as a medical condition that produces seizures affecting a variety of mental and physical functions. Normal brain function is made possible by millions of tiny electrical charges passing between nerve cells in the brain and to all parts of the body. When someone has epilepsy, this normal pattern may be interrupted by intermittent bursts of electrical energy that are much more intense than usual.
A seizure, a symptom of epilepsy, occurs when a brief, strong sur

The Literature Community ExperimentThis is a typical example of a BeccaJS shower pondering! The idea of this is to try and bring together as many people as possible all in one journal, but not for the sake of making a big number, but to encourage interaction and share useful tidbits. We often say the "literature community" has drifted apart over the past few years and this is just one attempt to try get people to come back together. It's a little hippy, perhaps a far-fetched idea, which is why I am calling it an "experiment". This could be successful and could be a complete fail- only you guys and your efforts can decide its fate! The Literature Community Experiment2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This

Literature DD Roundup- June 2013Hello all!Literature DD Roundup- June 20132 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
We’re scarily already halfway through the year! Next month sees another round of camp NaNoWrimo as well as the glorious Flash Fiction Month. We hope to see lots of involvement and good writing come out of those!
Us CVs are really keen to see some diversity in our DD choices each month. We’re keen to see pieces that are a little different, or broach genres/themes that perhaps are not as common as others. If you do see anything out there which meets those and are fabulously written, please do send in your DD suggestions to any of us!
Here is the roundup for June

Started writing seriously about as long ago as I’ve been on dA (3 years). Most of my poetry focuses on imagery of all sorts (I try to be diverse subject-wise) and word play. My prose focuses more on character development than plot and those characters tend to be the average folk caught in unique or almost…surreal circumstances; I like subtlety. As for life outside dA, I won’t have one cause I’m in medical school, y’all! It

The Review Project, Competition... Thing
Hi guys! Well it's not so much a competition as it is a project in which you can win prizes... the idea came to me and I thought I'd share it with you all.
NB: There are copies of this blog post to take comments from here and here.
Your Mission (should you choose to accept it):
Is to go to the profile of a writer that you like on DeviantART and leave them a review. Not on a specific thing they've written but about them as a writer.
Over my years here on DA I have kind of collected these reviews, and when I self published my poetry collections I used them on the back of my book because some of them were just so sweet.
Perhaps the person you review will add your thoughts on them to their DA page, or to their writing website to help other people get an idea about who they are as a writer.

Project EditHello there odd collection of people who read my ramblings!Project Edit2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have an idea for a project. I was going through some of the really old pieces in my gallery recently that I haven't looked at in a long time, sorting through them and picking out some to edit and putting stuff into gallery folders to keep it organized and I had an idea. This would be the project:
-select a handful of pieces (3-5) that you have an eye to improve, and could use feedback on
-copy or move them into a gallery folder titled "project edit"
-visit like gallery folders of fellow deviants and leave feedback for them
-receive feedback on your own pieces
-consider the input of your fellow writers and tackle your edit.
-link me with finished pieces and I will select some to feature in subsequent "project edit" journals
-propagate this project by suggesting participation from fellow writers

So. Last week I went to visit my friends in another city for a couple of nights, along with my dear friend S. It was an amazing, wonderful time, until the last night, when S managed to consume the greater part of a bottle of vodka, getting very close to full on alcohol poisoning. That in itself was worrying, but manageable, as I was sober and could take care of her. But then she hit her head twice, very hard, and then we were in the hospital at 2AM and it was all pretty scary. Thankfully she didn't damage anything permanently, and I was able to take her back to where we were staying, and get her on the plane home the next day. I stayed up all night to make sure she was breathing. Horrible night. She's home now, and more or less well. So that happened.
Uhhh and now I'm sick, presumably because I can't skip a night of slee

There's a group now - feel free to head over to TheTitlePage! We're still in set-up mode, so excuse the plainness for now.
Found Poetry Project - Titles as Art
One of my favorite things about the creative process is coming up with a good title. The title can make or break a piece; it can give context not provided in the piece itself, set a tone or mood, or just give that little extra something you can't put a name on.
You know I'm right. How many times have you stumbled into an ordinary piece with a beautifully creative title? And it's not something
