GODZILLA (2014) review - The Showa Must Go OnGODZILLA (2014) has hit theaters, and for months (years for most Godzilla fans), potential audiences have been anticipating a return to form for the Lizard King - a film that will revisit the themes of the 1954 original and deliver a brooding, apocalyptic story of destruction and doom.GODZILLA (2014) review - The Showa Must Go On8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Instead, what we got could best be described as a sequel to THE TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA (1975).
Trust me, I wouldn't begin a review with a hyperbolic, attention-grabbing statement like that without explaining it. For the moment, let us turn back the clock and toss out a quick recap of the film's plot. Obviously, this review will contain a metric crapload of SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS, but you'll complain anyway, so let's get on with this.
After a mysterious event in 1954 regarding the Castle Bravo nuclear test and an unknown giant organism, the story jumps to 1999, where two scientists, Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) and Dr. Graham (Sally Hawkins) are investigating a massive underground tomb in the
Looks like I can talk about the WWD movie nowI worked on the Walking with Dinosaurs movie during preproduction as a character designer. I did multi-view skeletal and muscle diagrams to help guide the 3D sculptor (the talented David Krentz) and produced range of motion and movement studies. I continued to consult during development of the walk and run cycles, and served in a "catch-all" role on behavior and ecology when one of the other paleo advisors wasn't available.Looks like I can talk about the WWD movie now2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There were of course many other important advisors, and an entire army of artists who have worked on the movie since I was last involved, and they deserve most of the credit. For me the process was incredibly challenging and rewarding, and while you never get everything you want on a project like this the trailer makes me very excited to see the finished product!
Changing the world through musicSomeone recently brought up an interesting point as they left a comment on one of my YouTube videos. They argued that my talent wasn't very rare, and that everything I've done has already sorta been done before--that I'm not really pushing any boundaries or doing anything new. Tone is often lost or misconstrued over the internet, but it seemed to me that the person leaving the comment was insinuating that I was somehow "less" of an artist, or not quite deserving of praise, simply because I wasn't pushing some sort of boundary with the music I made.Changing the world through music3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have a pretty thick skin, but I'll admit that negative comments bother me. They bother every artist. We do what we do to make others happy, and if we fail in that endeavor, it makes us feel bad. Any artist who denies that is either lying, or not in it for the right reasons (in my opinion). That being said, the guy's comment on my YouTube video... kinda bothered me.
There's something fishy about the new SpinosaurusI'm sorry, I don't have a new Spinosaurus skeletal for you based on the new material. It will probably be a while yet until I do. But I was surprised enough by the proportions to want to check them, and the published lengths of the new neotype specimen don't actually match the reconstruction that was published in the paper. Above is my corrected version - to find out more about how I got there you can hop on over to my blog...and I'll apologize in advance for the wall of text that awaits you. There's something fishy about the new Spinosaurus5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Nothing to see, here. There are only a handful of names on my “block” list. You have to have been a monumental prick in order to earn yourself a place on it. I don’t hide negative comments about my work nor do I block people that write them. It’d make the world a very boring place if you edit it to show nothing but praise. The barbs are what make it interesting and provide points to debate and/or argue.Nothing to see, here.2 months ago in Personal More Like This
I monitor content on DA via “browse” as it changes regularly and has work that the community thinks to be high quality. It’s generally where I spot artists whose material I want to see more of. Over the past few days, though, after posting a response to DA inexplicably choosing the letter “Z” to be their logo, people mentioned that the “Super Pretentious” cartoon had surpassed DA’s own “Boldly” journal on the “What’s Hot” list. Thinking that to be funny as hell, I switched to “What’s Hot” t

Where's Flash Sentry?
No one's mentioned Sunset Shimmer.
Wasn't Rainbow going to the Wonderbolt Academy? How did that go?
No one seemed alerted when Twilight went all SOMBRA EYES when she was called on to use ALICORN MAGIC. What's the deal with that? Did Sombra find a way to use Alicorn magic, or did Twilight just fuck up real good?
What's Cadence up to? She's my favourite Princess, and she's almost died on several occasions, doesn't she deserve a little more screen time? Let's go to the Crystal Empire!
Lastly, and this is a half-joke:
There's no fucking excuse for the lack of Babs. They even went to Mane-fucking-hattan, and the whole time I was squealing in glee because Babs can't NOT make an appearance SOMEWHERE, BUT SHE DIDN'T COMEONNOWWHATTHEFUCK?!
Really, I'm only half serious about that last thing.
I'm glued to season four so far, but come on now, throw me a bone here.

How to start REAL drama on deviantART:Yesterday, I made a very public Journal. It was a hate Journal. What was I hating on? I was hating on haters. How to start REAL drama on deviantART:8 months ago in Personal More Like This
I did it because I was angry about it all.
Yes, it helped me feel much better. Yes, the support was great. Yes, I'm 100% entitled to say whatever I want.
No, it wasn't very mature. No, not everybody agreed with me. I was a real jerk.
If I REALLY hoped to accomplish anything, it was to try and make some people see the issue the way I do, in a way I think people will really pay attention. Is that awful of me?
One person in particular very strongly believes it IS wrong of me, and it IS awful. I'm going to humor him by really being the immature asshole he says I am, by doing this:
Pony-Berserker, I sincerely hope you didn't say anything you would regret. http://comments.deviantart.com/1/458284730/3489182440
Might as well share your thoughts as to which one of us you think is the shinier turd.
I'm prepared to get some serious hate this time, but please try not to be disapp

Abortion debate again. Something is very wrong when a person keeps giving out the same response to every conceivable (hurr) scenario and adamantly refuses to consider that, just maybe, people may have differing opinions from yours. Nevermind that they might actually have good reasons for going to that clinic.
It was like talking to someone who wholeheartedly believed that the sky was green. They need only open their eyes and look up to realize they're wrong, but they're so deeply rooted in their beliefs that the thought anyone could think differently is unthinkable. Even when the evidence is literally staring them in the face.
I'm sure I've said this before, but I am 100%, irrevocably Pro-Choice. Telling me that abortion is the Devil and should be outlawed completely is pretty mu

I don't understand bronies anymore.Brony: Someone who is explosively dissatisfied with every episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Each episode will be more hated than the last. This person will go to spectacular measures to point out every flaw, most of which are not even actual flaws, but extreme personal opinions, subject to the individual. They will desperately try to teach all of those around them to bash the show as they do. No self-respecting brony will ever say the slightest positive thing about an episode or it's content, nor, to any degree, appreciate the creators of the series. They will expect radical things of the creators, and be angry and pissy when it doesn't turn out as the fans decided it ought to. Bronies will always remind one another how awful and toyetic the newer seasons become, despite the following facts:I don't understand bronies anymore.8 months ago in Personal More Like This

-it's the only reason the show will continue to exist

The above photo was linked to from this article that I read a few weeks ago. I really don't want to make my Journal into a political soapbox, but this has been bugging me nonstop for weeks and I feel I have to say something.
I like this dude. I really do, I like that he's taking a stand for what he thinks is right, but...that little sign isn't sending the message Guy was going for :I
This may just be my interpretation, but...when I first read that sign, it gave me the impression of "it takes a strong woman to tell us men what to do". Unbeknownst to Guy, he's putting down half the world's population, by making the claim that they don't, and possibly can't, know any better, unless guided by a strong woman who does. Circumstantial evidence tells me Guy is fighting for the caus

Spinosaurus not like you imagined itSo, the new paper about the proportions of Spinosaurus aegyptiacus (yes you heard right, that species, not "S. maroccanus") is published.Spinosaurus not like you imagined it5 months ago in Personal More Like This
What does it bring us, you ask?
Well, apparently Spinosaurus is the longest known Theropod till date, which isn't that much of a surprise. Fanboys might nod their heads, but hold on! The estimated center of body mass was located way in front of both hip and knee points. This made Spinosaurus likely unable for bipedal locomotion. Ibrahim et al have proposed a quadrupedal terrestrial locomotion, according to that paper it must have looked something like the combat-crawling-method speculated by Duane Nash.
Furthermore it has been speculated by dinosaur enthustiasts that the new specimens from the Kem Kem beds ma
Torosaurus is Not TriceratopsEvidence states that Torosaurus and Triceratops are distinct dinosaur genera, not synonyms.Torosaurus is Not Triceratops2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Here is the paper: http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0032623#abstract0
Then here is the abstract:
In horned dinosaurs, taxonomy is complicated by the fact that the cranial ornament that distinguishes species changes with age. Based on this observation, it has been proposed that the genera Triceratops and Torosaurus are in fact synonymous, with specimens identified as Torosaurus representing the adult form of Triceratops.
The hypothesis of synonymy makes three testable predictions:
1) the species in question should have similar geographic and stratigraphic distributions
2) specimens assigned to Torosaurus should be more mature than those assigned to Triceratops
3) intermediates should exist that combine featur

San Diego Comic Con keeps delivering the goods! Following up yesterdays amazing poster/art reveal, we now have our first look at Jurassic Worlds Tyrannosaurus! Click the picture below to see her in full:
While incredibly familiar to her first appearance, the design has undergone some tweaks: her skin is noticeably greener (though not as green as the TLW Bull Rex), her facial ridge highlights are pale as opposed to dark, and she has pale scutes running down her neck. Comic Con officially kicks off Thursday, so keep your eyes peeled for more from Jurassic World. While the chances may be slim, perhaps Legendary may share something Jurassic World related during their Saturday Hall H panel. Stay tuned for more upd

If you ask me about Spinosaurus...Is it a quadruped, like what many people now think it is?If you ask me about Spinosaurus...5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Well, I don't think it's a quadruped. The legs and hips are too small in their model.
According to Scott Hartman, the actual hips and legs are ~127% of their digital model dimensions. This shifts the center of gravity backwards, and long with the longer legs and larger pelvis, revives the bipedalism of Spinosaurus.
How far does the spine at the back extend?
I think it still extends to the tail by a degree, like the previous reconstructions. The sacrals, as well as most of the caudals, especially those that are situated closer to the hips, have not been found. I would give it a tall anterior caudal, based on this:
(Scaling the holotype's alleged anterior caudal to the centrum length of the neotype's first anterior caudal seems to make the neural
