''Sequential Art'' CompetitionMy webcomic, Sequential Art, is 10 years old. I started it back in June 2005.''Sequential Art'' Competition2 months ago in Personal More Like This
As a little celebration, I thought I’d run a contest (something I’d actually been meaning to do for a while).
It’s fairly straightforward. There will be two top prizes, each awarded to the best of the following: The best image (best art wins. Simple) and the funniest image (Art quality isn’t as important as the idea behind it).
To be in with a chance of winning, all you need do is draw something related to the Sequential Art webcomic. It could be a single character, multiple characters, your own strip, anything. Draw it and post a link to it in the comments section of this journal.
First prize for each of the two categories is:
A copy of Sequential Art Volume 4
A print of the 10 year image (seen below)
A free commission (colour. Single character)
There will also be 10 runners up (total), each of whom will

Every second and fourth Sunday we will bring to you a journal featuring the work of one of our talented members! We basically choose 5-10 photos in their gallery and ask them to write a short introduction to their work.
Our contributors are working on choosing group members for the next features. Suggestions are always welcomed and, who knows, maybe one of these days you could be featured too!
This time around we have the photographer WTek79! He has some things to share with us:

"Scars can come in handy. I have one myself above my left knee that is a perfect map of the London Underground."—Prof. Albus Dumbledore
Early life becomes an exploration of invisible parameters, circles beyond circles, as one pushes out to test the boundaries of safety. There is one’s bedroom, one’s home, neighborhood, school and town, state and nation. Early on, maps become important documents – declarations of being and rights and privileges. In the art world, throughout history, maps have been a constant measure of human progress, from the Phoenecians recording their trade routes over 2000 years ago, or pre-Columbian times in which map

The Mouselemur thought, since I’ve started writing journals exactly two years ago, it would be fun to change up the topics. No more talk about my schoolwork – I’ve especially translated an essay the Mouselemur wrote in Dutch, to English so you can all understand.
It was written for the course “Legal English”, and was supposed to be an opinionated essay on Human Rights based on a number of judicial sources. The result you’ll be able to read for your pleasure, in this memorial journal.
I hope you’re able to understand it all – sometimes it sounds better in Dutch, so I hope it comes across right. Feel free to comment – they’re much appreciated, as you ought to know by now What do you think about human rights, what did you think about the essay, and were you able to understa

How I've gone about learning to draw! :D(Just so you know, this probably won't be much help if you can't understand spoken English)How I've gone about learning to draw! :D2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Ok, so as of right now it's been just over a Year since I've started learning how to draw... and even though I still feel like a beginner, I've made some pretty major improvements in my work thanks to a few awesome sources! (Including things I need to remember for myself ) I am no where near qualified to write any form of tutorials, so I'll just point you all to the ones that really helped me! (p.s. may update this as I learn more )
Almost all I have learned has come from these two Youtubers:
First up is Sycra http://sycra.deviantart.com/ https://www.youtube.com/user/Sycra/featured
This man's tutorials are simply amazing He covers just about every aspect of art, and from him I learned almost all of my fundamentals. Even though he main be more tuned to someone learning how to paint as opped to s
Las Vegas deviantMEET Wrap-Up!Las Vegas deviantMEET Wrap-Up!2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Our first-ever deviantMEET in Las Vegas hit the jackpot!
On Sunday, December 1st, deviants were already lined up outside the doors at 5:00 PM, even though the event wasn't scheduled to start until 5:30! (A handful of amazingly dedicated super deviants arrived as early as 3:30 PM!) Far be it for us to wait to get the party started, so we opened the doors a little early, allowing the crowd to rush in. After signing our guestbook – we know, physical guestbooks are so Web 1.0, but they're great mementos! – our devious artists dispersed to play at the deviantART booth.
Stocked with six Intuos 5 Wacom tablets to play with, a 24-inch Cintiq, SketchBook Pro for sketching and painting, enough table seating for traditional drawing and portfolio review, and bags upon bags of free swag (including stress balls, deviantART Sharpies, and tons of free stickers), everyone found an awesome and creative way to spend their time.

Bosch: Lampoonist or Serious Visionary?
Creator of some of the most bizarre and frightening artwork in the history of art, scholars have long debated who exactly Hieronymus Bosch was and what was the meaning and purpose of his “over the top” grotesqueries (c. 1450—1500). His most famous work is the triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights. Panel One depicts Adam & Eve in Paradise. Panel Two depicts the earthly delights: nude bodies, exotic birds, bowls of fruit. Panel Three depicts Hell’s punishments for partaking of the delights. Centuries later, scholars debated whether he was a radical religious heretic or a satir

EDIT: I ADDED NUMBER 3 IN CAUSE THAT WAS KIND OF AN IMPORTANT LESSON TOO. HAHA
Usually I am pretty quiet when it comes to the community and its dealings with drama . But I feel like I have to write my two cents about this topic.
A lot of people have been throwing around this post around about how art schools are terrible and are not worth it ya. I am sure you can find the article somewhere if you just google it . Though everyone is entitled to their own opinion I feel that I should talk about both sides of the coin when it comes to art school.
Now I have went to art school , and have done well for myself , I have worked internationally and worked for some big companies , and currently at the moment I actually teach at an art school as well.
SO THE ULTIMATE QUESTION: IS ART SCHOOL A WASTE OF TIME?
WELL THERE IS NO BLACK AND WHITE ANSWER
What I believe is that art school i

So I have been thinking of doing a few articles apart from feature articles to link some useful resources for artists and this is the first one of these. While this is a mini one, it's helped me a lot on several occassions.
Sometimes it gets confusing to decide which colours to choose. "'Should I go with a turquoise and a gold for the face? What about the room? I was going for a chic cool modern palette which is minimalistic!" Surely, a lot of us have gone through those decisive moments. Below are some colour scheme tools that would help you with your colour scheme choices. Click the titles or the links in asterisk to go to the following sites.

First 150 Comments will be featured! (CLOSED)Hello everyone!First 150 Comments will be featured! (CLOSED)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I decided to make an art feature.
First 150 comments will get an art feature! Why 150? Well, it's because our group just reached 150k page views!
What you'll do is comment your artwork, but you have to follow these:
Please comment only the best work, preferably, of course, anime-style and finished works (not sketches and WIPs). Cosplay photos and pixel icons are okay (though I can't resize pixel icons in sta.sh). :3
Only one comment per deviant! It makes my job easier, but I'll still check each because I want only one deviation featured per artist (so it's fair to everyone).
Please comment :thumbnails: instead of links. I'm fully aware that thumbs (images) don't work for non-premiums, but still please comment thumbnails, not links.
Thank you for your cooperation!
It's closed. I will post it any time this week (something came up so I need to change the sched). :3
Btw, I'm still thinking about wh
