We have changed the rules and select for future four polls -> 6 images per Category (6 x 4 = 24) because we have a lot of "equivalent" hi-q images..!!!
Nature provides us with a never-ending supply of inspiration for photography. Technical quality, clarity and composition are all important, but so too is a flair for the ability to capture a picture-perfect moment when an interesting or unusual lighting opportunity presents itself. Light creates shadow and shadow in return, enhances the appearance of a subject. The interaction of the two is fascinating. Light can make a subject feisty or dull while shadows can make it mysterious or terrifying. The position and strength of the lights and shadows always set the general mood of an image and showcases the creativity of a photographer in capturing their vision of the nature that surrounds us all.

Thanks a million!Phew, I truly suck at journal updates! It would appear, however, that I hit the 1,000,000 pv mark. I've never really made that much fuss over page views but I feel I should pipe up and say a big thank you! So thanks for the continued support dudes! My journal might suffer from a lack of updates but I'm constantly updating my Tumblr blog. There's more art floating around on there for those interested. Thanks a million!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
You can still watch my Video Tutorial if you have the slightest of interest. Brush and palette available below. I'm thinking about another tut at some point in the future. You guys are asking me to cover sketching more so I'll try and do that!
Lastly, you can still ask away on Formspring me and I'll do my best to answer. More art on the way soon, over and out!

Every second and fourth Sunday we will bring to you a journal featuring the work of one of our talented members! We basically choose 5-10 photos in their gallery and ask them to write a short introduction to their work.
Our contributors are working on choosing group members for the next features. Suggestions are always welcomed and, who knows, maybe one of these days you could be featured too!
This time around we have the photographer WTek79! He has some things to share with us:

Irrational Confidence and how it Helps the ArtistFolks,Irrational Confidence and how it Helps the Artist1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I was doing some studying of construction this morning and it got me to thinking on some stuff that might be helpful to you crazy kids that wanna break into comics as artists.
When I was coming up, I had an irrational confidence. I didn't know it was irrational at the time, but I can now see it upon reflection. I just KNEW that I was gonna be able to do this one day.
But when I go back and look at old drawings I did, I think, "What the hell was I thinking?" I mean, I was BAD. I definitely could draw, but I was a complete amateur in every way. A hobbyist. I was a guy that had a better jump shot than his friends and somehow I knew that meant I could play in the NBA.
This confidence could have been a hindrance, though, if it was the wrong type of confidence. My confidence wasn't that I was already good enough to draw professionally. My confidence was in that I would look at art and think, "I can figure out how to do that".
I've seen plenty of guys along the way that had the w

Before I even made one, I recall my cousin, BubblyPunkKat, and her friend, xNeonWolf-14x, had a deviantART. They'd talk about it a lot.
And one day my cousin decided I should have one. She made me one, but I had no idea what to do with it. So.. for the first few months, I did interact with a few people and submit a few things.
I had posted a few tattoo ideas.
After about three months, I became bored with the website and didn't do anything for about a year.
when I became more active, I posted more tattoo designs
Almost everything I posted was traditional. I had no interest in digita

Las Vegas deviantMEET Wrap-Up!Las Vegas deviantMEET Wrap-Up!1 year ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
Our first-ever deviantMEET in Las Vegas hit the jackpot!
On Sunday, December 1st, deviants were already lined up outside the doors at 5:00 PM, even though the event wasn't scheduled to start until 5:30! (A handful of amazingly dedicated super deviants arrived as early as 3:30 PM!) Far be it for us to wait to get the party started, so we opened the doors a little early, allowing the crowd to rush in. After signing our guestbook – we know, physical guestbooks are so Web 1.0, but they're great mementos! – our devious artists dispersed to play at the deviantART booth.
Stocked with six Intuos 5 Wacom tablets to play with, a 24-inch Cintiq, SketchBook Pro for sketching and painting, enough table seating for traditional drawing and portfolio review, and bags upon bags of free swag (including stress balls, deviantART Sharpies, and tons of free stickers), everyone found an awesome and creative way to spend their time.

EDIT: I ADDED NUMBER 3 IN CAUSE THAT WAS KIND OF AN IMPORTANT LESSON TOO. HAHA
Usually I am pretty quiet when it comes to the community and its dealings with drama . But I feel like I have to write my two cents about this topic.
A lot of people have been throwing around this post around about how art schools are terrible and are not worth it ya. I am sure you can find the article somewhere if you just google it . Though everyone is entitled to their own opinion I feel that I should talk about both sides of the coin when it comes to art school.
Now I have went to art school , and have done well for myself , I have worked internationally and worked for some big companies , and currently at the moment I actually teach at an art school as well.
SO THE ULTIMATE QUESTION: IS ART SCHOOL A WASTE OF TIME?
WELL THERE IS NO BLACK AND WHITE ANSWER
What I believe is that art school i

The Tree as Beautiful MachineThe Tree as Beautiful Machine3 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
While searching deviantART for images for the Earth Day article, I became intrigued with how trees have become not only such a central focus of our current environmental concerns, but also how they play such a central role in our art, whether as background or actual subject matter. There are so many Enchanted Forests on deviantART that it made me wonder if trees, so mundane and taken for granted yet at the same time so vital to life on earth and so steeped in myth, have always been the revered subjects of the world’s artists.

The Mouselemur thought, since I’ve started writing journals exactly two years ago, it would be fun to change up the topics. No more talk about my schoolwork – I’ve especially translated an essay the Mouselemur wrote in Dutch, to English so you can all understand.
It was written for the course “Legal English”, and was supposed to be an opinionated essay on Human Rights based on a number of judicial sources. The result you’ll be able to read for your pleasure, in this memorial journal.
I hope you’re able to understand it all – sometimes it sounds better in Dutch, so I hope it comes across right. Feel free to comment – they’re much appreciated, as you ought to know by now What do you think about human rights, what did you think about the essay, and were you able to understa
The many ways to start a digital paintingThere's really no one way that I start a digital painting. Many people have asked, so I did a short list of how I start my images. I don't think it's all of them as no one method seems to work the best for me. If I'm not getting anything with one method, I'll switch to another method and try that. The many ways to start a digital painting2 years ago in Personal More Like This
You can create a digital painting by starting it with a Base, apply Color, then apply Texture. You use a variety of brushes the entire time no matter if you're on the base, the color, or the texture pass.
Start with a Base:
1. Paint in grey scale. Use subtle variations in the value. Make sure you use a wide range of value say from 2 to 8. Also, vary the values during the transition. For example, if you're painting 3, add value 2, and some value 4.
1.1 Grey Scales with an Image Overlay. Slap down some gray values, overlay an image that's close to the colors you need. Use regular layers to further define the image. I find this me

Early life becomes an exploration of invisible parameters, circles beyond circles, as one pushes out to test the boundaries of safety. There is one’s bedroom, one’s home, neighborhood, school and town, state and nation. Early on, maps become important documents – declarations of being and rights and privileges. In the art world, throughout history, maps have been a constant measure of human progress, from the Phoenecians recording their trade routes over 2000 years ago, or pre-Columbian times in which map
Syn's Dithering TutorialWhat is dithering?Syn's Dithering Tutorial2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Dithering is a pixel art process used to blend blocks of colour together or help apply a texture to a pixelled surface. Within emoticons it is most commonly used when making pixelled backgrounds, however it can be used in a number of other areas, e.g. massive emote bases, pixel objects etc. In this tutorial, we will focus on how 2 colours can be blended with dithering.
To break dithering down into simple terms, it is achieved by simply taking the colours from the two blocks of colour and placing individual pixels of each on the opposite side. This creates a region where the two colours merge together to create a more blended colour transition instead of a clear line between the two.
Dithering can seem like a complex process, but it's really not. Once you get the basic idea and technique, it's just all about practice and over time you'll learn how to apply it to a number of different situations. There are many dithering styles which can be
