New Username Symbols: Extended ThoughtsTwo weeks ago, we released two new products – deviant and art Mentions and new username symbols. Gratefully, and as we'd hoped, many deviants are embracing these changes in exactly the ways we'd anticipated, and the ways we ourselves did over the past several months of testing. While some deviants embraced the changes, it's fair to say that others have felt surprise, curiosity, and maybe even shock. These feelings are totally normal, but for the large part, there's a hope present. A positive outlook. The first steps in a new era that makes the way for our goals in the future, and, at the same time, removes clutter and confusion that new deviants often experience.New Username Symbols: Extended Thoughts2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As with any change, there are a handful of deviants that don't understand why we made the choices we did

Sta.sh Visual Refresh
Today we have released a visual refresh of Sta.sh, deviantART's upload and publishing platform, giving it a cleaner, more modern look. One of the most apparent things you'll notice is a major change in the header, which is now white, to match the rest of Sta.sh. In addition, when viewing something in another user's Sta.sh, the topbar will display their icon and username, to indicate that you are in their Sta.sh and not your own.
In addition, we've made
Site Update: Staff Retreat, .Art, deviantMEETsIn this week's Site Update, we don't have any publicly visible changes, as our Devious Technology (dT), Product, and Product Marketing teams are all still at a staff retreat!Site Update: Staff Retreat, .Art, deviantMEETs3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
At the beginning of the week, the dT team worked on improving our internal development tools to increase efficiency. Then, on Wednesday, we let any staff members at the retreat pitch fun and exciting ideas for deviantART features that could be built in two days. After each feature idea was pitched, everyone from dT chose which projects they'd like to work on. Throughout the year, engineers primarily work on projects that are assigned to them, so sometimes it's important to turn the tables and let them choose projects in which they're most passionate and excited about.
The purpose of these two-day "hackathons" is to build and demonstrate a proofs of con

Here is a selection of some of the fantastic Groups on dA that boast an incredible collection of Pinup & Glamour Artists and Admirers
Artist's Toolbox: Social Media WebsitesIn this day and age, with the internet at just about everyone's fingertips, social media is making a big boom and is useful for so much more than just socializing with others. Each day more and more businesses jump on the social media bandwagon to help market and promote their goods. For artists this is no different, as these websites are an excellent tool to market yourself, your skills, and of course your art!Artist's Toolbox: Social Media Websites1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
Benefits of using Social Media Websites
Starting out brand new on any social media website can be a bit daunting and building watchers/followers can take time though there are ways to get noticed faster if you are willing to put the time and effort into it. Some time ago I wrote an article about gaining exposure. While the article is geared towards gaining exposure on deviantART, a lot of the same concepts apply to other websites as well. Do take a moment and give it a read.
The Literature Community ExperimentThis is a typical example of a BeccaJS shower pondering! The idea of this is to try and bring together as many people as possible all in one journal, but not for the sake of making a big number, but to encourage interaction and share useful tidbits. We often say the "literature community" has drifted apart over the past few years and this is just one attempt to try get people to come back together. It's a little hippy, perhaps a far-fetched idea, which is why I am calling it an "experiment". This could be successful and could be a complete fail- only you guys and your efforts can decide its fate! The Literature Community Experiment2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This

10 years?!? wow!!!haha wow, i just noticed that I've officially been on deviantart for 10 years now. gotta draw something to commemorate that soon! i'm not gonna lie, it means quite a lot to me. even though i didn't know it at the time, putting my artwork online and joining art communities like deviantart has become the foundation of pretty much my entire LIFE as i know it now. i mean i started uploading my artwork to this site for fun, just to get in touch with other artists and gain some exposure, and now it is my career. i firmly believe that my fanbase here on deviantart and the things i've learned here have EVERYTHING to do with me being able to work as a freelance artist. i discovered so many inspiring and great artists through this site. the reason i chose the Utrecht School of the Arts as my college was because i followed Bakenius and loved his work; when i didn't like the school i was attending at the time, i contacted him through deviantart notes and he advised me to check out his school10 years?!? wow!!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Photography Troubleshooting: Dull Images on dA?After a long pause in which nobody seemed to have very many questions, we've got a very intriguing one which came up during the People & Portraits projecteducate week and it's something that has always played on my mind, and no doubt on yours too. Once again sine-out has provided a fantastic answer, so hopefully that will help somewhat in clearing this issue up. Have a question? "Hi kayjensen, the issue your describing is most likely a colour profile issue. Colour profiles essentially describe how each colour is represented and there are different profiles for different purpose but mostly for getting accurate colour out of a printer or a screen.

However, Stash is so much more than a simple revamp. Your Stash on deviantART will become home to all your images, writing... everything! Here's how it works:
You can drag and drop multiple files into your Stash, quickly and easily.
However, those files won’t appear in your Gallery, or to your Watchers, until you specifically say so. Allowing you an easy place to storage images until you’re ready to publish

Worldbuilding and Your WritingIt's probably one of the most basic tasks of writing. Some of us take our time and carefully plan and plot every aspect of the world we're writing in. Others figure out the basics and jump right into the story. Like most aspects of writing, it comes down to what's comfortable for you, as a writer. But, if you're writing prose, you have to do a little bit of worldbuilding.Worldbuilding and Your Writing1 month ago in Literature Features More Like This
What is Worldbuilding?
Seems like the question of the hour. Everyone's talking about it. Some writers are making a big deal about it, while others say they don't do any at all. Worldbuilding is as simple as creating the world in which you're writing. How much worldbuilding you do is up to you.
How much should I build?
Remember, that no matter what, you'll always know more about your world than you'll ever write. It's not a bad thing; in fact, it should make your story stronger. The amount of building you do depends on the typ

It was nice to see Moonbeam13 and starvingartist today in Toronto. We got some lunch. Then 'Beam was nice enough to drive me to the airport with Rob. Rob! Happy Birthday Moonbeam!
I'm in the sky eating a banana at the moment. I wonder what monkeys would make of me eating a banana at 30,000 feet. Let alone journaling on DA from here.
I was in Toronto visiting Autodesk, and the teams behind Sketchbook and Pixlr and other awesome apps they have. What wonderful people. I really enjoyed seeing what they're up to, it's all very exciting.
I've been hanging out on #devart on dAmn today, and I asked Pickley to pull together all the best scripts and projects out there that improve dAmn. This way DA can consider buying the code, interfaces, etc. and
Deviousness Award saayyyyyy wwwhaaaaaaatDeviousness Award1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm in Japan on vacation right now so I don't get to check in on my websites too much but I did just now and noticed I got a ... a Deviousness award :0
:0 :0 ;0
It especially means a lot since I owe so much to DeviantArt. I can sincerely say I owe my career to this website, its thanks to them I've had job offers who led to me working in the video game industry at a pretty young age, thanks to them I've gotten magazines to notice me and commission workshops, thanks to them I was able to find smaller gigs early on and so much more. I've met awesome people here, constantly find new inspirations and best of all, am able to share with others my passion for art.
My life would be quite different without DeviantArt.
SO, A MASSIVE THANK YOU!
