Many of you have been in this community for a long time, but whether you’ve just joined or you’ve been a member since day one, this is your first impression of the new DeviantArt.
Change is not something that we take lightly, because it affects our collective identity. It was important for us to define who we are and what we’re made of at our core before we changed anything. We all have our own understanding of what that means, but the process of getting that core story down on paper took almost a year.
The result is “Bleed and Breed Art.” This is our center of gravity and our reason for getting out of bed i

What will you do to save the arts?
Foreword by techgnotic
As an artist you need to be aware that something very bad is being brewed. Under cover of corporate and bureaucratic darkness, art as you could know it on the Internet will die. “.ART “ will be lost. You need to carefully read “Save Dot Art” right now—before another battle for the future of art on the Internet is lost.
This plea to the “ICANN” is dense and full of unfamiliar acronyms, but it’s essential
New deviantART ThumbnailsIn the weekly Site Updates, we've been telling you all about the changes that have been launched to deviantART, getting your feedback, and reporting all the bugs that have been fixed.New deviantART Thumbnails3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
This change is a little different, since it involves a feature that has been in place for a long time. We think it deserves an announcement of its own, ahead of time.
The current deviantART thumbnails (the smaller versions of deviations) have served the community well for years; however, there's always room for improvement.
Some of the problems with existing thumbnails are: they leave a lot of blank space around them, there isn't a lot of room for text for literature deviations, and the thumbnails don't present very tall/wide images well.
The New Thumbnails
Now, we've created a new style of thumbnail, which hopes to solve a lot of these problems.
We've made all thumbnails bigger! We're showing them in tidier row

In Recognition of Exemplary Membership and an Outstanding Spirit of helpfulness and mentoring within the DeviantArt community.
Hi everyone! I'm Jade, better known around DeviantArt as Aeirmid. I chose my username because Aermid (or Airmid) is an Irish goddess of health and healing, and I wanted to pay tribute to her because I have dedicated my life to promoting mental and physical health in others. In fact, I'm just finishing up a PhD program in public health. In March, I will celebrate 10 amazing years on DeviantArt. Although I started my journey as a photographer, I quickly became enthralled with photomanipulation and worked hard to develop some skills. I chose my original name on DA, SanguineVamp, because I loved all sorts of dark and Gothic work. I still do. Still, I had a hard time creating dark art because my attempts at blood and gore always somehow magically evolved
The New Mobile Deviation PageThe deviation page on the mobile website has just gotten a huge uplift! The New Mobile Deviation Page1 year ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
In uplifting the mobile deviation page, we re-evaluated what the most important functions and information on the deviation page were, and altered the page to present them in the most easily accessible way. From there, the deviation page was given a visual refresh for ease, clarity, and simplicity.
Features that were previously hidden and accessed by a "More" button can now be accessed without any page shifting, allowing the art to be the focus, and making for a seamless, user-friendly experience. More From This Artist becomes much more visible as well, encouraging viewers to tap through to see more of your art, and Featured Groups and other features are just a tap away.
In addition, a tab has been added so that viewers can easily watch or contact an artist from the deviation page, making it easier than ever to interact in the midst of your browsing experience.
deviantART was on TV + join the art challenge!A long time ago (about 24 hours), in a galaxy far, far away (down the road in Hollywood), comedian and television host Chris Hardwick introduced a segment on his late-night Comedy Central show — aptly titled @midnight (get it?) — that got many of us at deviantART all aflutter.deviantART was on TV + join the art challenge!1 year ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
First of all, if you love the Internets and you haven't seen @midnight yet, you're missing out on some serious lulz. A few nights a week, Hardwick invites some comedian pals on the show for some Geek-Centric Improv Comedy. Sort of like a British Quiz Show brought to you by Reddit. Or "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" with slightly less dancing, but an equal amount of thick-rimmed glasses and awkward sexual tension.
In a segment called "Star Weird" on Monday's episode, Hardwick's guests had to choose which of two artistic descriptions was an actual deviation on deviantART. YES, MOM, HE SAID DEVIANTART'S ACTUAL NAME ON TV! MUCH WOW! The comed

Wednesday, Preview Night of Comic-Con
Wednesday, July 17, 2013
When the bustle of tourists in Downtown San Diego is replaced by the flailing of fandoms, and the street signs around the Convention Center have changed from English to Dothraki (not Klingon, like past years), you know it’s time for San Diego Comic-Con 2013!
Wednesday the 17th kicked off this year’s Preview Night, and energy was high as this year’s Comic-Con sprang into motion with a flurry of activity. Many attendees treat the three-hour preview as a time to scan the showroom floor, mentally map places to hit on the later dates, and, of course, buy the must-have items that may be gone by Con’s end. There’s not a lot of cosplaying -- although there is some -- and vendors as

This article marks the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 1000 deviants holding the highly saught after Senior Member accolade -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.
So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endeavors, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the

Holiday Card Project 2013 Wrap-UpHoliday Card Project 2013 Wrap-Up1 year ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
The Holiday Card Project returned in 2013, and it was a total hit! We received over 5,000 cards from 2,000 deviants in more than 60 different countries! A ton of deviants reached out to us, interested in helping to distribute cards to their local hospitals! With these volunteers' help, we distributed cards to 22 hospitals in the US and abroad!
The majority of the hospitals we worked with distributed the cards themselves, either through their own volunteers or by placing cards on the food trays of patients. We received letters of thanks from some hospitals, and a few even shared our cards on their Facebook pages! One thing all of the hospitals and patients had in common: they loved your cards!
One of our biggest surprises this year came from Bank of America! A deviant who works there got word of our project and told some people around the cor
Deviant and Art MentionsMentions: Connecting PeopleDeviant and Art Mentions2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Mentions are a new, highly requested feature that makes engaging friends and artists in conversation more dynamic than ever before.
What is a Mention?
A Mention is when a deviant’s username, icon, or artwork is included in a comment or Journal. Mentions create links to the deviants or artwork you include, allowing you to highlight artists and engage deviants with ease.
Links to pages on deviantART can quickly be distinguished by their bold, dark-blue color, while external links are darker and have an arrow indicating you are leaving deviantART.
Deviants you mention are notified in the new Mentions section of the Message Center, making engaging and involving others in conversation a simple, hassle-free experience.
How to Mention
There are four ways to mention a deviant.

You might have noticed that deviantART is wearing purple today, as October 20, 2010 marks Spirit Day -- an event to honor teens who have lost their lives to anti-LGBT bullying.
While this specific type of bullying has received a lot of media attention as of late, we'd like to bring to light how bullying is a wide-spread problem that impacts everyone -- regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, race, or profession. And the recent surge of teen suicides associated with bullying can't be ignored or overlooked.
