Change for the sake of change.Well…..that was immature drivel.Change for the sake of change.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I don’t know a huge amount about the “New 52” take on the DC universe (I stopped paying attention to DC’s output when they changed their logo to look like a half-unwrapped Acme magnet) but if the Justice League: War animation is any kind of summary, I’m glad I’ve not wasted my time.
Batman now seems to think it’s impolite if he doesn’t tell everyone who he is, Wonder Woman has taken to talking like a really, really bad Shakespearean actor and Superman is a dick.
Ignoring the animation’s terrible narrative, what struck me like a rancid kipper in the face was how god-awful the character designs were. In this instance; particularly Darkseid’s. Yeah, he wore a bucket on his head in the past, but it worked! It added to his menace as a laser-firing brick of doom. You took one look at him and you knew who he was.
Watch Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. THAT version of Darkseid is an ic
How to interview a politician.A tiny snippet from Jeremy Paxman's interview with Silvio Berlusconi. How to interview a politician.11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Some might not know who Berlusconi is: he's a media tycoon, 3 time Prime Minister of Italy and is generally regarded as the face of political vice and corruption in Europe.
Many won't know who Paxman is: he's the brick that the BBC throw at people like Berlusconi. His questions being so blunt that it's nigh on impossible to wriggle out of answering them without looking more of a prat than you did at the start.
I'm pretty sure that Paxman also hates that fact that you, whoever you are, share the same planet as him:
These aren't outtakes. This stuff airs
RIP - H.R. GigerKooky Swiss artist and master of f**ked-up imagery, H.R. Giger, has died: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27390345RIP - H.R. Giger1 year ago in Personal More Like This
His work was brought to prominence, obviously, by the design of the titular Alien in Ridley Scott’s film, but he was also more or less the godfather of “biomechanical” science fiction/horror illustration.
I can’t say I was ever a real fan of his work. Most of it made my flesh crawl. It was art, but it was utterly repulsive.
Why mention his passing, then? Well, love or hate his style, its effect on the science fiction/horror genres is undeniable, and they wouldn’t be the same without him.

International CoversThe UK Games Expo was held last weekend, and I finally got a couple of my old Fighting Fantasy books signed by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson.International Covers11 months ago in Personal More Like This
The authors also held a seminar where they spoke about the early years of the Games Workshop, which they founded. During this talk, they touched on the cover art of the game books, and how their publishers wanted illustrations of fairies and mushrooms and pretty things, while Livingstone and Jackson wanted imagery of things that would tear your face off.
They won. More or less.
Generally, all the FF game books have the same covers wherever they are released. So, Deathtrap Dungeon looks like this in most corners of the world:

Fiction. How redundant is it pointing out these following statements?Fiction.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There's no such thing as a gigantic mechanical robot fighting off alien monsters. There has never been a report of a man being bitten by a radioactive spider and becoming a hero. You can't summon a mini-tornado at your own beck-n-call, don't matter how much into the occult you are. The odds of a young male teenager having a harem of sexy girls at his every turn is nil. There aren't bipeds of animals that are supposed to be quadrupeds flying spaceships in the galaxy above us. You can't legally hunt and catch thousands of different animals and use them to protect you from other animals and people in a sports-like venue. You can't eat a flower and ignite fire from your hands.
I can go on and on... this journal is probably being expressed because of recent built-up distaste for people bullying others because of what they like when it comes to fiction.
Just to reestablish what it even means, here it is, straight

Diluting QualityBioshock Infinite was one of the few games I’ve completed and been quite happy to immediately start again from the beginning. So good was the story and immersive the universe it crafted that it was a joy to replay again and again.Diluting Quality1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It had that quality so rarely found in interactive entertainment: a satisfying end.
With most games striving to be epics, we’re usually left with the developers leaving the door wide open for a sequel that may never materialise, and no ending at all, or just a crap boss battle followed by the credits to act as a marker for when and where the budget ran out.
Bioshock Infinite had genuine closure and had given you all the information you needed over the course of the game to answer any lingering questions yourself.
It was a perfect, stand-alone product.
And then Burial At Sea comes along.
I was delighted at the thought of returning to Rapture and spending more time with Booker and Elizabeth, but now, having play

Autodesk has over 30 years of history in helping designers create amazing things. You may know Autodesk for apps like SketchBook and Pixlr for drawing, illustration, and image editing, or for software like 3ds Max and Maya, which are used by the top film and game studios around the world to create fantastically realistic 3D characters, environments, and effects. Amazing fact: the last 17 Academy Award winners for Best Visual Effects use Autodesk software. Autodesk is also known for engineering software like AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit, which has been used to design some of the world’s tallest buildings, longest bridges, and most incredible machines.
With the investment we plan to improve deviantART at a faster pace than we coul

Party PoopersRussian politicians really like trying to associate cultural elements that they personally don’t like with things that are universally frowned upon, in the hope that the latter poisons the former in the public's view.Party Poopers6 months ago in Personal More Like This
During the lead up to the Winter Olympics in February, for example, while large gentlemen with flails were beating the sh*t out of small, female protesters, Putin seemed to make a great effort to always mention homosexuals and paedophiles in the same sentence, as though the two were somehow linked.
I’m not suggesting that politicians elsewhere in the world don’t pull the same trick in order to rally a hysterical mob in their favour, but the Russians do it with all the subtlety of a brick.
In what I’m assuming is less an effort to protect the fragile psyche of Russia’s youth and more an attempt to thwart another dastardly Western concept (namely f

But one of the coolest things about nerdfighteria is that we have our own minecraft server called... wait for it: Nerdcrafteria!
Nerdcrafteria is one of the most awesome Minecraft servers I have ever participated in. The server is broken up into several different worlds. The Main World, The Nether, Minington, and Gladitorial. All of the worlds have borders around them preventing players from roaming too far and making the strain on the server too much to handle, but all of the worlds are also massive enough that you likely won't notice.
The Various Worlds
The main world is where towns and cities exist. You cannot break blocks here except on town plots that you purchase with the server's equivalent to money = Llamas. This helps prevent griefers from destroying all your hard work and gives you a place to call home. If you don't have enough

What an episode we pony aficionados were treated to this week! We got Castles, Mysterious Diaries, and further proof that all the ponies in this town really ARE crazy!
Signs point to the affirmative that after the fantastic 2-part premier and the wonderfully fun and Season-1 reminiscent Episode 3, we're officially back on track for possibly the best pony ever.
Despite my abject disappointment that the blue-hued and be-robed Pony of Shadows reveal was a certain Party Pony rather than Trixie, I came away from my viewing satisfied and feeling very hopeful for the rest of the season.
In my very very humble opinion, what many episodes in 2 and most in season 3 lacked was the dynamic that the characters are wonderful but also flawed. Everypony became too nice and good and capable. But in this episode, it was wall-to-wall neurosis, and I liked it! Dash and AJ are competitive and sometimes forget be

Points for Critiques!Hey guys! for those who don't know, I've been learning to paint for 4 months now. I want to learn as fast as I can from all you pros on here, so I thought I'd start something like an ongoing contest to give away points and help me improve.Points for Critiques!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm giving away points to people who critique my work. Each new deviation of mine will be open for critiques in its comments section, and there will be 3 prizes totalling 140 points per painting:
First Critique - 20
Best Critique - 100 Random Critique or Comment - 20
The 'First Critique' prize goes to the first critique, unless it's really short (i.e. less than 100 words, say). All 3 prizes will be sent and announced in the comments section of the deviation roughly 1 week after the deviation's submission date - and then the contest will close for that deviation. The 'Random Critique' prize can be won by anyone (even if you gave a very short critique or just a helpful comm
