Feminism vs Damsel FantasiesHey Guys!Feminism vs Damsel Fantasies3 months ago in Personal More Like This
made front page! How cool is that? Thanks to everyone for the well wishes ^^
But, of course, with popularity comes QUESTIONS! Is this sexist? How can I make BDSM art AND be Feminist? This spurred a really great note conversation I had with a fellow deviant-arter. With her permission, I'm reposting part of the convo below.
Q: I would consider myself a feminist as well. I do have a question, though. I understand that what happens between consenting adults is up to them and there is no shame in sexual exploration or what some would consider a "kinky" sexual lifestyle, but some of your art doesn't strike me as consensual. I see bound and sexualized characters who are not getting pleasure from their situation. Some even look desperate for freedom. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
A: Lets take sex and table it for a second. I want to talk a little about catharsis.

Victim or VillainI've just started to notice how often, how ingrained, self-blame is when a person is a victim of societal circumstance. I was reading over some statistical data when I came to the summary of the article, a paragraph, that really struck me:Victim or Villain2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"It is part of social and legal convention in the United States to discriminate against, ridicule, and abuse
transgender and gender non-conforming people within foundational institutions such as the family, schools,
the workplace and health care settings, every day. Instead of recognizing that the moral failure lies in society's
unwillingness to embrace different gender identities and expressions, society blames transgender and gender
non-conforming people for bringing the discrimination and violence on themselves." - The National Transgender Discrimination Survey
It made me stop and think: do I harbor feelings of self blame? Two strips of Material Girl came to mind: when Noah has the stormy premonition and says "I was so sure...

ABOUT PONY HEARTSOkay if there's one piece of work that I've ever made in my entire life of drawing that I regret more than anything, it would be those fucking pony hearts.ABOUT PONY HEARTS1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Literally every single day (since the day I made them) I get 1-10 notes or comments about someone stealing, tracing, recolouring, selling my work here or somewhere else. So naturally, I fucking hate those things. I probably would've done them a lot more if I didn't have to deal with art theft twenty times a day.
To those of you who have been informing me of these thefts from time to time, I really appreciate it as always. Without people like you I wouldn't even be able to track down, or even KNOW about the people stealing them. So really, you have my deepest thanks and gratitude.
NOW to get things straight. I'm tired of going through these art theft pictures and reading comments about how, "He gave me permission to make it a base" or "He doesn't care". WRONG, I do care and will report you without hesitation if I see it.

Does Bondage art Promote Rape? And if so, what to do about it?Does Bondage art Promote Rape?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I started really chewing on this while reading some responses to Blurred Lines which referenced an article that linked "viewing images of objectified women to greater acceptance of sexual harassment and rape."
And it worries me a little.
Because AS a BDSM individual I happen to participate in, consume, and create a lot of art and activities that FROM THE OUTSIDE looks like women being objectified. Any member of the BDSM community worth his or her salt would tell you otherwise, that consent is at the very heart of a healthy Dom Sub relationship. Just read some of Shiniez' "Sunstone" if you had any doubts.
But the truth is the

UPDATE 8 - As of Saturday, November 17, 2012, we are at 125,125 points, with only 34,875 points left to go! I was able to purchase 2,000 points a moment ago to put directly into the pool myself. My original intent was to get 8,000, but I ended up working less than I expected this week and was unable to, but as of my next paycheck (in two weeks), I will be able to purchase 8,000! That will leave us with 26,875. And after TimberClipse's AWESOME point doubler, like the one that helped out and did so amazingly earlier in the year, that will be another 8,000, leaving us with only 18,875! And his doubler is already halfway full with much thanks to rainylake for immediately putting 2,000 points in

Disability Awareness Day :: Braille Art FeatureToday is Disability Awareness Day. It offers us a chance to promote awareness and understanding, as well as a moment to reflect on the lives of individuals living with a disability, and what those of us blessed with able bodies can do to assist.Disability Awareness Day :: Braille Art Feature1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
There are a number of articles coming to you from CVs and members alike aiming to spread awareness on the matter, so I won't double up on their efforts. But I want to take a moment to reiterate that not all disabilities are visible. Lately I've heard a lot of stories from people using disabled parking being abused by passers by, either verbally or via a note left on their dash, for not 'looking' disabled. It's a common theme. People will tend to judge the heath of another by how they look, but it is worth remembering that not all sick people look sick. The vast majority of disabilities are those you cannot see by looking at a person.
Some people live with chronic pain. Ot
The Ideal Body In ArtFor millennia, the body has been the most highly revered subjects in the visual arts. That's not new news for most of us though; even here on dA we see that most work here is figurative. The nude has been called timeless because it never changes, but I somewhat disagree with that statement. The body in art has changed multiple times over the ages, especially the nude. There's a big argument that the body (especially the female body) is too idealized these days, but I assure you, the body has always been idealized (and sexualized). The difference over time is what part is given attention to culturally. The Ideal Body In Art8 months ago in Art Features More Like This

In the 1960s, youth was displayed in modeling, informal, very slender (almost underdeveloped, boyish figure), pixie cut hairstyles, doll like facial expression, ‘little girl’ mannerisms, juxtaposed with gritty street photo
