The third installation of an ongoing series: The Best Comic Couples that Never Were.
Featured here are Roxanne Spaulding and Robert Lane, otherwise known as Freefall and Burnout, from Wildstorm's comic Gen13. In true comic-writer idiocy, Roxy was fixed up with the vulgar, immature, less-than-hygenic meathead who couldn't keep his hands to himself. Ever. And Bobby spent the entire series lusting after the token lesbian.
Why?! Why, when it would have been so easy to give Bobby a girl who actually likes boys, and Roxy a boy who isn't going to cheat on her with everything that contains YY chromosomes?! *beats head into wall*
I don't get it. I just don't. They're perfect
for each other. Both had crappy childhoods, both were raised by people who weren't their parents, both bear the kinds of emotional scars that the other three members of the group don't have, which gives them an opportunity to have an understanding beyond whatever connections they might share with Caitlin, Sarah, or Grunge.
Alas, only in my own mind may they find solace with one another.
....on a side note, I hate the way Bobby came out.
