Advice on becoming a better artistI get asked by a lot of younger artists (and moms and grandmothers) for advice on getting better and becoming a professional comic artist. Hopefully this will help. Ask me more questions if I'm not clear enough and I'll try to post more about what I think makes a good artist and how to become a professional in the comic industry.Advice on becoming a better artist2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you're not already aware, I'm a self-taught artist with little to no schooling on the subject. I thought I knew how to draw when I was a kid and I thought that drawing from shapes and building your characters out of forms was stupid. I don't know what the proper term for this is so I'm going to refer to it as construction drawing or under drawing throughout this post. My parents had purchased me some how to draw books, I also went to art class, and both of these tried to get me to use construction drawing techniques. Unfortunately I didn't understand the value of it and thus rejected it. I didn't need to build a tiger out of blocks, circles,

Justice League: The Flashpoint ParadoxOver the last few months I have been getting a lot of questions here on DA about what my next project would be and when it might be announced and released. Also, I am thrilled to say, that a lot of you awesome friends and fans have expressed the idea that following Young Justice, you would like to see more DC animation work from me. Well I am happy to reveal that the next project featuring my design work is the recently announced Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, directed by the super talented Jay Oliva, and it will hit the streets on July 30th. I did the designs for this film last spring and summer (after production wrapped on YJ: Invasion) and we just finished post production on the project last month. I gotta say that thanks to all the tremendous talent involved in making this thing, it's looking pretty epic. I personally pushed my style into a slightly more exaggerated look for much of this film and I hope those of you who dug the look of Young Justice will get a kick out ofJustice League: The Flashpoint Paradox3 years ago in Personal More Like This

YO! I just returned safely from our JL: War Premiere in beautiful and blizzardous NYC, and I just wanted to thank all the fans and comics and animation press that braved the insane weather to come see us! You guys and gals helped make it a really special night for us, and on behalf of the cast and crew I want you to know that it is deeply appreciated. We have another JL War screening coming up NEXT THURSDAY the 30th of January at the Paley center in LA. Not sure if tickets are still being sold, but I do believe it's still possible to get in for the resourceful and dedicated who either love what we do, or can't wait to tell us how much we suck to our faces!

orld War I (1914-1918) was a human catastrophe
that devastated Western civilization and mocked the hope inherent in “modernism”. The sheer volume of the war’s slaughter was beyond belief. The horror of it all destroyed the trust in science, medicine and technology as the golden gateway to a harmonious and peaceful future for humanity. All that was thought to be good had been twisted to the evil purpose of a global war. A global sense of hopefulness was replaced with a global sense of fear and loathing.

This entry spoke strongly to me. How Kichea sees the world and how the world truly is. She is not facing the world, but rather at the future. She contains a look as if she almost pities it. My friends couldn't stop talking how amazing this was and it shows in this entry.

A strong personal favorite of mine. Shows her chill side well when she's not out bounty hunting. Love all the detail and shading done. Plus, she has a look that says she could kill you at any moment while looking sexy doing it.
And the winner is...
And of course, this masterpiece. The battle scars, lovely background, and small rays of light... all speak clearly of Kichea's character. Kichea is the light, literally that is what her name means,

A big black hole called: Procrastination.Procrastination is an infinite cycle that becomes bigger and bigger the longer it's there and the time wasted being sucked into it is a dark matter of nothing.A big black hole called: Procrastination.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
hahah I figured this was the most dramatic way to put it, but yeah, it's real and it sucks.
For those who don't know what it means: Procrastination is the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time, sometimes to the "last minute" before the deadline.
We all suffer from procrastination. It is pretty innocent when you have it with household chores or packing your suitcase before you go on a holiday.
But it becomes a serious problem when you do it with the important things in your life. I take it you're an artist if you're reading this and the biggest aim of being an artist is to be an even better one.
As shown in previous journals there are many

Issue No. 1|Archives
I was inspired to create this series by naikki while looking through her gallery of diverse artwork and reading through her journals which are focused on her favorite inspiring writers and thinkers. I felt certain there must be beautiful artwork in the form of portraits and tributes to these writers and their stories. I found most of naikki's choices of quotes to be inclusionary, redeeming and welcoming to any artist on their own path. Instead of just crediting naikki with the inspiration for this new series on depthRADIUS, I also invited her to provide a quote about Herman Hesse of her own to kick off this series.

Age of Ultron and Feminism -SPOILERS-Reviews of Age of Ultron have been going up and one consistent theme across many of them is the “problematic” nature of Black Widow’s character arc. The general consensus seems to be that Black Widow, the bad ass female hero on a team of men, was devalued by forcing her into a relationship and making her goals “let’s be a couple” and it’s all Joss Whedon’s fault.Age of Ultron and Feminism -SPOILERS-9 months ago in Personal More Like This
As a feminist myself, I find a lot of this over simplification and anger at the movie to be kinda misguided. I haven’t been seeing my viewpoints talked about much at all, which is where this journal comes into play. So here’s why, in my opinion, the subplot for Black Widow isn’t as bad as you may think.
1. First off I want to address the growing complaints that Black Widow is somehow “weaker” for wanting to have a normal life. I think that’s a really problematic mindset to have in regards to feminism. You see, in our American society there are
