The Enduring Enigma of CollageFebruary 21, 2013/by techgnoticThe Enduring Enigma of Collage2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Collage is one of those art forms that immediately sets off heated debate about our most fundamental ideas and visceral feelings about the very essence of art itself.
Turn of the century troublemakers Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso began enhancing their paintings with glued on bits of cut out fabric and other materials, thus neatly blurring the line between the art categories of painting and sculpture. They shifted the emphasis or “meaning” of their painted images beyond an attempted interpretation of the painted “text” to thinking about the artists’ “process” – something wholly separate from the paintings themselves.
And with that a whole new Rubic’s Cube of basic questio

Right brain warriors in the new age will be the coveted candidates ordained to lead and guide us; lifting the torch to light the way forward into a brave new beautiful world.
Artists have always feared that they are unappreciated and that the march of progress comes only from business, science and their machines. 1984 was imagined by an artist projecting these exact fears. Our guest essayist suggests the computer will never be our master, but only the super high speed counting machine it was meant to be leaving humans with only one pure task— being creative.

There is no cosmic law that states artists must suffer many long years and demeaning day-jobs before a window of opportunity cracks open just enough to hop on through.
Fellow deviant Brian Kesinger is a case in point.
His first “day-job” in 1996—he was hired straight out of his senior year of high school—was drawing Tarzan for Disney.
Brian stayed at Disney and he considers every day there a part of his ongoing education as an artist. He most recent

dArp: Daily DeviationsThe DD is a known abbreviation within deviantART.dArp: Daily Deviations1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
But those two letters can be a challenge for all on deviantART sometimes. For this dArp article i will not focus on art but collected the articles and explanations of other people.
Also known as Daily Deviation. It is a daily feature given since the beginning of deviantART to showcase a few selected pieces. For 24 hours it will be seen at the footer or at the DD page. Afterwards it will vanish among the older DD pages. It will be forgotten instantly after those 24h and only gets a bit attention when CVs do their monthly DD feature again or when someone stumbles across them by accident.
Artworks featured as a DD can be easily recognized by that little red heart framed by a golden background below the actual deviation. It often comes together with comments like "Congratulations for the DD".
DDs can not be a journal, a WIP or any artwork located at the 'Scraps' category.

The Warrior and the Mage
“Preys of the thirst of blades and hunger of spells, what are we but witnesses of a war of two? Steel cloaks the hills as mist rises from the seas, and the night grows bright from shining swords and enchanted words. Whose blood will it be on the meadows, whose cry will echo the victory? When the drums are put to sleep, who will rule between the warrior and the mage?”

FOLLOW THE LIGHT
Is there really such a thing as good or bad light?
There is gorgeous light, little light, strange light, dim light, golden light, light so wonderful it makes your whole body hurt, scary light, difficult light, blueish light, morning light, evening light, light at night, light that feels like lead, the sulfuric-yellowish light shortly before a hailstorm, mixed light, the rose tinted light of Eos, the greek goddess of dawn, soft light and hard light, harsh light, artificial light, autumn light, light that tickles you in the morning and wakes you up, maybe there's even ugly light.
Isn't referring to different light situations as good or bad really an approach that keeps you from tackling challenges? One that stops you from trying to find something that makes all kinds of different light work for you? One that stops you from experimenting with light? One that might prevent you from taking th

Jean Giraud (Moebius)Jean Giraud (Moebius)2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (also known as Moebius) was a French comics artist, working in the French tradition of bandes dessinées (bandes dessinées is derived from the original description of the comics art form as "drawn strips").
Many artists from around the world have cited Giraud as an influence on their work. Giraud was longtime friends with manga author and anime filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. Giraud even named his daughter Nausicaä after the character in Miyazaki's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Asked by Giraud in an interview how he first discovered his work, Miyazaki replied:
"Through Arzach, which dates from 1975, I believe. I only read it in 1980, and it was a big shock. Not only for me. All manga authors were shaken by this work. Unfortunately, when I discovered it, I already had a consolidated style so I couldn't use its inf
Painting With A Knife!Painting With A Knife!Painting With A Knife!8 months ago in Art Features More Like This
You all may have seen those old masterpieces – painted in impasto techniques with rich and bold use of thick coats of colours and you have wondered how on earth they could do that.
So lets take a peek in the old masters' tools and techniques.
Today we will talk about a less used traditional technique – painting with a knife. Though it's a second most famous technique but not much artists use this technique.
Painting with a knife results in excellent textures, helps in bold application of thick rich colours, and, gives a whole new different level and style to your paintings.
Painting knives are very useful in impasto technique – both in acrylics and oils. Besides interesting textures, this certain tool gives you more control over paint and opens up a lot of ways to experiment. In one sentence, painting with a knife brings up your painting styles at a new height.
Some people says this technique can't be used to put
