Smoothest ebony in my hand
Tell my dreams, create my myths
A graphite diamond in my grip
Hexagonal beauty tall and fine
Carve my vision from just one line
Blankest page of purest white
Stands no chance against your might
When my mind is clouded and blue
The only thing I need is you
You soothe my pain and heal my wounds
Fascinated my hand moves
Deepest trance and sweetest bliss
As I watch the sharp'ner twist
And once again you are renewed
Till I need you again to lift my mood

Marching on dead feet
over a field of gray
we lost the soul
we lost ourselves
in a time we'll never forget
we're an army of dead men.
Those who shoved us into this world
were lost long ago
as a wage of war.
Even the shallowest scratch
cuts to the bone
with a story we don't care to tell
some still scream
when in the heat of battle
they find another hollow
in the very flesh of their souls.
But most can no longer muster a tear
as we march
doing the dirty work of the devil.
An army of dead men.
We only wish we could care

There comes a stranger in our town,
From beyond the doors that never open;
Algae-smeared gears and cogs go round
Before the day has woken.
The city with shadows is shaken;
Dogs snarl at the poor whelp;
His treasures, mementos were taken,
He's a stranger, and no one will help.
There's no way out, no sword in hand
Play with us, but join? No way!
With a cursed body in a strange land,
Within the walls must stay.
Little wooden boy all alone,
Are you here for the carnival?
Go back to your mother at home;
No room at the inn for one so small.
There walks a stranger in our town,
Only a child but unafraid,
Cuts madnesses and terrors down;
With songs he is repaid.
He catches a glowing and dim
Piece of faery broken like a doll.
The dead put their dreams into him,
Knowing burdens of us all.
Many-faced and much he bleeds,
In secret justice hearing truths
Of silly and heart-rending needs
Behind the festive gaming booths.
Sleepless night watches, and THEY
Attacking from all

That my soul could not erase
The design of the dotted line
That my finger slowly traced
It's so easy to cry and I've
Never had to force any tears
So, it's safe to just cut away
Before thought can interfere
This burning in me lasted, filling my veins
The sun beneath the clouds continued my way
But then it gleamed in front of me
Like a star it dropped and blocked my vision
Simple yet unfinished
Love is a palette mixed
With colors I have never known
Folded it up and watched it fall
A crumpled mess of everything
Even if it's "not my problem"
And though I try to hide it deep within my heart
The tears in my eyes amount to lies
And cut away into another day
To let go of this aching soul
That I stole away so deep
Quietly, I began to speak
As I strained to find the key
I'd created my own charade
And a world that I'd concieved
All the colors began to run
In this lie that I believed
I gave away the bags
I'd filled with regret
I threw away the thoughts

Couldn't bear another day without you in it
All of the joy that I had known for my life
Was stripped away from me the minute that you died
To have you in my life was all i ever wanted
But now without you I'm a soul forever haunted
Can't help but feel that i had taken you for granted
No way in hell that i can ever comprehend this
I wasn't dreaming when they told me you were gone
I was wide awake and feeling that they had to be wrong
How could you leave me when you swore that you would stay
Now i'm trapped inside a nightmare every single f'ing day
It's like a movie but there's not a happy ending
Every scene fades black and there's no pretending
This little fairy tale doesn't seem to end well
Theres no knight in shining armor who will wake me from the spell
I know you didn't plan this
You tried to do what's right
But in the middle of this madness
I'm the one you left to win this fight
Red like roses
Fills my head with dreams and finds me

Death Song.Death Song.2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
Singing to me a symphony of death
The strain in my body with every last breath
Draining my life a soul torn apart
Needing only time with this slow beating heart
The tune of my soul is dying within
This aging carcass is wearing so thin
Notes of life will soon lose their tune
As I'm sitting here so empty in this prison, my room
This song is now reaching the end of it's time
Nothing to leave for you but this poorly writ rhyme
But hope goes out for the one who does care
Because in your heart my music is there...
Twas the Night Before Christmas JL8Twas the Night Before Christmas JL83 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
Twas the nap before Christmas, when all through the manner
Not a creature was stirring, not even Barry.
Our book bags were hung by the door with care
In hopes that St Nickolaus soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug on our mats,
While maybe not Clark, he just floated above his mat.
And I with my lantern and Diana in her cap,
Had just settled down for our nightly nap.
When out on the roof there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the mat to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like the Flash,
I used my ring to whip open the sash
The rings light breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature bat plan, and my friend flying it neer.
With a little bat driver, so lively and swoose
I knew in a moment it must be St Bruce.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Clark! now, John! now, Barry and Karen!

the only time of year
that actually deserved to be called a
sweat on our faces shone like
sticky cellophane, and we
ran through sprinklers if
no one was looking.
with damp undershirts and
ice-clinking glasses and
asphalt smoking heat
and dust - you said
everyone's eyes were a little bit brighter,
like we were
borrowing something [life]
from the sun.
you walked around your little apartment, smiling
in thongs you changed twice a day, when you could -
about how funny
the AC chose right now to break,
and you'd look outside and smirk at
crossing the street just to walk in the shade.
and i'd spend all day just
waiting for a shower
i'd feel dirty again half an hour after taking.
then i'd lie there at night with the
windows wide open and
your hot body draped
and i'd wish i didn't
have to share that bed with you.
you'd snuggle closer and whisper
and i'd pretend i'd fallen asleep.

I feel I am being held captive,
Like a beautiful bird in a small iron cage.
I feel a red hot anger within me,
Like a crazy bull in a blind rage.
I feel I am in constant, spinning turmoil,
Like a delicate butterfly in a swirling tornado.
I feel as though I am lost in limbo,
Like a condemned angel without a halo.
Then it passes,
And a tinkling sound fills the room,
Kind of like good friends toasting,
Gently banging each others' glasses.
DaybreakDaybreak5 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
My dears, the sun sets consistantly.
The light on our souls is diminishing steadily,
As our worlds darken and succumbs to shadows.
Hope, it seems, is dwindling--
As our faces, they break
As our prayers, they erase
As our dreams, they fade
As our work, it crumbles
But hold fast, my friends
For the unfailing turn of day
Promises the hate of the night,
Bitter, cold, hopeless, empty-
Only to be worse before it is better.
Wait, before you cry,
Know that after night is day,
And the break of dawn is nearing the horizons,
Replacing the bitter sky with sweet dew.
You are the glimmer of sunshine in our eyes
The brightening glimpse of love in hate
The gleeful screech of joy at meetings,
The merry voice in blunt tongues.
Flare, YOU are the reason we live.
Never will you be judged by what you have done-
Nor the things that you have become
Nor the chains that bind you
Nor the evil that holds you
You are safe here, we are here for you.
Here you will find peace, hope,

her somber eyes hidden from the mounting ash.
Lack of contact labors a mutual threshold,
restless desires bred amongst odious machinations.
Staid throat drunk on her ambrosial sap,
more reverie to dirty all our neurons one by one.
Guttural cries rattle through shared visions,
depicted in blossoms and ignoring the damage done.

I often wonder what she would've looked like
I know it was gonna be a girl
I've always wanted two girls and one boy
The boy being the youngest
Perhaps I'm being foolish
Dreaming about the future
But you already made this future happen
We made this future happen
You and me
She would have your eyes
Your magnificent green eyes
And strawberry blond hair
Her dimples would be faint
And her smile would be perfect
She would've been tall
Not too tall, but not too short either
Reading would've been her favourite hobby
She would've loved everything we love
She would've been just like us
There would've only been one difference
Our daughter would've had friends
Her open and friendly personality would've been cherished
Not just by us
But by everyone
Everyone would've loved our little girl
She would've loved everyone
She would never have a reason to feel sad
She would always be happy
Happy because we loved her
She was so excited to meet us
And I her
She would've been so beautiful

I am the Earth
And the Earth is mine.
I recycle for the green grass,
For all the trees,
Each bit of mud,
And stick and stone
For blood sweat and tears,
Skin and bone.
And just as I
Need every bit
of the earths surface
My body fit,
So Earth needs
Grass and stone and tree
And things that grow here
The world we say:
As long as life,
As dear, as free,
I am the Earth
And the Earth mine.
