COSPLAY FRIDAY: The Original Superhero Team
The next couple of years promises to be full of comic book superheroes no matter where your allegiance falls in the DC/Marvel divide.
Following in The Avengers’ big screen footsteps, the Justice League of America (JLA) is finally getting its own live-action movie, even though the Justice League came along way before The Avengers were even born. A quick stroll down comic book lane reveals how the JLA got

5 Reasons to do it the traditional way5 Reasons to do it the traditional way5 Reasons to do it the traditional way1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Traditional and Digital art are both completely different mediums, able to create the same product. It is possible to paint a beautiful, watercolor-like painting digitally, as well as achieve the cleanliness and color options of a digital piece traditionally. Therefore, using one or the other to express ourselves creatively is, just like many things in life, just an option. People may have personal, sometimes even illogical reasons for using one or the other and that's fine. Today, however, I'm a cheerleader for the "traditional side", and I offer you 5 reasons to do it traditionally!
1. Oh the wonderful smell of art supplies > I'm not talking about the toxic smell that come painting techniques require, of course. Rather about the feeling you get when entering a huge art supply store, touching all those brand new pencils and tubes

PE: 5 reasons to love your job5 reasons to love your jobPE: 5 reasons to love your job1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."
1. Your work consumes a significant amount of your life time. If you don't love what you do, you spend way too much of your time being upset and uncomfortable.
2. You will probably never be truly great at what you do. Without passion and will to invest, improvement is unlikely to come.
3. You'll lack fulfillment. You'll be thinking about things you could be doing instead and watching the clock all the time. Your days won't be productive.
4. Without being productive, you won't get promoted. Without excitement and portfolio that shows progress, you won't get new customers.
5. While doing a job you don't like, you won't be able to do what you'd love to do more, be much better at and more productive. You will waste yourself.

Draw every day; nothing works like practice, and relax, setbacks are temporary and anxiety smothers genius. Entertain your curiosity, but don't let it run a muck.
Use music to your advantage, don't let it muffle your thoughts. Nearly everyone enjoys music; wake up to something, but turn it down when you need to think. Explore new music; share and be receptive in this.
Get lost in your work, don't dawdle; be economical.
Respect anyone willing to support your work; listen to what they say. Take time to appreciate flattery, but don't revel in it. Heed insults; DON'T respond to them. Receive every criticism, but don't let them discourage you.
Make as many friends as you can; don't let them take advantage of you. DON'T take advantage of them.
Have heroes, but not idols. Approach them and don't waste your time on anyone who treats you badly. Be modest, bu

Kingdom Carousel is an independent project run by vtas bringing together over 120 incredible pieces of art from artists all over deviantART.
The art book is an impressive piece of work in itself as over a hundred artists from deviantART come together to help fight childhood cancer. The book itself is a celebration of life with 100% of the profits going to the charity at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
"St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. No child is ever denied treatment because of the family's inability to pay." This year is their 50th anniversary.
Kingdom Carousel aimed to always bring a smile on your face, and I believe that is very much what they have done. (at least for me ) Check some of these art-book amazing previews out:

How to get noticed on deviantARTHi there! How to get noticed on deviantART2 months ago in Art Features More Like This
People asked me several times when I've became 'popular' on this site and in which way. I must admit I smelled a bit of envy in their tones, but the thing that troubled me more was that they didn't think that my work was worth all the pageviews I got over the years.
Well, I wanted to explain this little thing right now... dA costed me a lot of work! It wasn't a 'BOOM! POPULAR!' thing at all for me.
I had to study other people's methods too and to work hard on improving my art, and it wasn't easy. At all!
So tonight I'm sharing with you some methods to get attention by dA community.
Don't take them as unquestionable laws, just take them for what they are... Hints.
They worked for me but they may not work for you.
And now that you have a dA account...
What should you do?

For some, the stars are a portent of the future and help inform one on the best course of action to take based on the stars’ alignment. If born under a specific “star” or month during the year you may have certain characteristics and manneri

A Beginner's Guide to Archery in Stock and ArtWith movies like Avengers, Brave and Hunger Games, 2012 seems to be the Year of the Archers and many artists have already been inspired to create their own archer characters.A Beginner's Guide to Archery in Stock and Art3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Whether you're thinking about having one of your OCs pick up bow and arrow (in writing or drawing) or you're a stock artist who wants to create some decent archery stock, I hope this little guide helps you understand the wonderful thing that is archery.
First and foremost, a little disclaimer: For this article I will mainly draw from my own experiences over the past few years. I am what you'd call an intuitive or instinctive archer, which roughly comes closest to medieval-styled archery. At the moment I'm shooting a modern Samick bow (without stabilizer or sights) and am in the process of making my own recurve bow out of robinia wood (similar to a few bows you can see in my gallery).
However, in archery there are many styles and differences in material used, draw, stance, finger position etc. – it all depend

No matter the brave, fierce constructs we build and serve that would have us believe we are each one of us all alone as we make this journey, we make our way toward the end of all things side-by-side in our community of the living each day defying death. Our paths may be wildly divergent—the way of the hungry and impoverished traveling the same timeline with the grotesquely indulgent, the very best of us side-by-side with the most evil of us; but all headed for the same fate: dust. Islamic ArtIslamic art was born in the 7th century within the Omeya dynasty; some a hundred years after the Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdallah began to preach the Islamic message. So “Islamic art” refers to the art produced since then in all Islamic countries, thus covering an extensive – and varying – land in the Middle East, Northern Africa and even Europe (Al Andalus).Islamic Art1 year ago in Art Features More Like This

Best video resources for digital artistsLearning the theory without any practice is incredibly pointless when it comes to art. No book, no lecture and no video will ever teach you how to paint if you won't find the time for creating something yourself.Best video resources for digital artists1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
On the other hand, doing everything alone and without any instructions is the longest and hardest way of achieving anything. What's worse it doesn't guarantee you success.
Through the last couple of years I've been painting, I've learned that the best way for me to learn to paint is to copy techniques of people who know what they're doing. There's no better way doing it than watching videos with commentaries. That's why today I thought I'd share with you some great lectures, tutorials and demos I've found on youtube. Below you'll find a list of the best YT channels and samples of videos. Go and subscribe for more great vids!

Early life becomes an exploration of invisible parameters, circles beyond circles, as one pushes out to test the boundaries of safety. There is one’s bedroom, one’s home, neighborhood, school and town, state and nation. Early on, maps become important documents – declarations of being and rights and privileges. In the art world, throughout history, maps have been a constant measure of human progress, from the Phoenecians recording their trade routes over 2000 years ago, or pre-Columbian times in which map
