A Brief Discussion On Limited PaletteA Brief Discussion On Limited PaletteA Brief Discussion On Limited Palette6 months ago in Art Features More Like This
We all know that temptation when we see a pretty new colour in the art-shop, or the urge to create a mesmerizing colourful artwork while planning a painting. We then use our favourite colour(s) in full force - by means of as much as we want - and we often have more than one favourite colour....
Aftermath: A muddy or unreal canvas! Colours do not look right and did not turn out exactly as it was in our mind - not even close and harmony is far away! It turned into a visual cacophony!
What might get wrong? A lot of things! But specially all those pretty colours you put at will!
It is not bad to paint with many colours - many big artists paint with more than 70 colours on their palette. Even we do not finish a painting in less than 10 colours - right? The difference is that the famous or big artists have mastered
Songwriting: The BasicsSongwriting: The BasicsSongwriting: The Basics1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Because there is no way to submit audio files to deviantArt, songwriting and composing are art forms that are somewhat left out on dA. However, since there is a category for songs and lyrics, the art of creating songs has not been completely overlooked. In this article, I will cover the basics of songwriting, such as the elements of a song, hooks, and song structure, as well as share my own writing process. I’ve also included a feature of my favourite musical pieces on dA.
Elements of a Song
According to most books about songwriting, a song is made up of three things: the melody, the harmony, and the rhythm. If we are talking about popular genres, such as rock, pop, or country, I also like to include the lyrics as part of the elements.
If we consider a pop song (or a song in another non-instrumental genre), the melody would be what the person is singing. When you are humming along, you are singing the melody. The harmony,

June Fan Fiction ContestWelcome back! This month's contest theme may be a bit of a challenge: write a fan fiction from a second person point of view!June Fan Fiction Contest6 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
For clarification, in second person point of view (POV) the narration is told through the reader's perspective, using the personal pronoun, "you."
Most stories are told from first person (where the narrator is telling their own story, using the pronouns "I" and "me") or third person (the narrator observes the characters, and refers to them as "he/she/them/etc.") person points of view. Second person point of view is the least used in fiction writing, although it is more common in non-fiction. It is considered the more difficult POV to use well, especially in fiction. Some examples of this style are Jay McInerney's Bright Lights, Big City, and Sesame Street's There's a Monster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone. This style is frequently used in interactive fiction (such as Choose Your Own Adventure style books)

So we went to Toycon last Saturday and as usual I... didn't really get to take pictures of toys and stuff. It was so crowded around the merchandise hall that I couldn't stop and take photos because people were constantly threading through and shoving. It was like a river of people with an actual current, hahah! Sometimes I'd find a friend to chat with but we'd eventually be pulled apart by the tide, it was kind of funny.
I wanted to wear something simple and comfortable so I posted on my Facebook that I would wear my old Ichigo cosplay in his Karakura High uniform. The Bleach manga is so crazy now that it just made me miss the days when Bleach was simple.
I think this is the last decent picture of myself that I have wearing this, and it was taken ages ago.
And here it is on me again, with a new wig, better contact lenses, better wig styling and cosplay makeup skills (somewhat), and Kon plush that was give

COSPLAY MAKEUP TUTORIAL!Hi guys!! Thank you as always to all watchers and everyone who faves and comments - I'm so sorry I don't have much time these days to reply to everything, but I definitely do read and appreciate them all!COSPLAY MAKEUP TUTORIAL!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've been asked so many times I've lost count to put together a makeup tutorial on how I do my cos makeup - and I finally did it!
I hope this is a little helpful, although some disclaimers - I have Caucasian features, so my makeup will be very different to someone with a different face shape. I use a lot of eyemakeup, much more than a lot of people, just because I do lol. My eyes a pretty big naturally, so I line them right up the edge, as opposed to widening the eye by drawing further out. A few things like that to bear in mind ^_^ That said, hope you enjoy! *chu*

Guide to Writing: VocabularyFor :iconRinicchi:!Guide to Writing: Vocabulary6 months ago in Personal More Like This
So, as a writer (and I’m sure many of you like-minded, kindred spirits would agree), vocabulary is important to me. It’s not exactly something most readers would enjoy going through as they sift through your stories, your thoughts, your words and style - because the hassle of getting to a dictionary as quickly as possible before the array of scenes in their minds are abolished is, well, annoying.
But don’t stop there!
To me, I like the challenge of finding new words that I’ve never heard of before and rushing to a dictionary to get its meaning. There is indeed nothing wrong with that! I don’t know if it’s because I’m a writer (and I am always looking to expand my knowledge and vocab), but I don’t think it needs acquired mind to hold a creative position in y

Text Brush in deviantART muroWe just launched a new tool to Beta Testers that allows you to paint words onto your canvas in deviantART muro!Text Brush in deviantART muro2 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
The text brush lets you create visual art using words. You can change the text and font from the bottom bar, and you can also set whether or not the text repeats itself continuously. When you click the font button, you'll be prompted with a modal that contains an extensive list of fonts to choose from! The sample text will update based on the font you select, so you can get a sense of what you'll be painting before you paint it.
As an example of the great things you can create with this tool, you can check out mudimba's I Have A Dream, or watch a redraw of mudimba at work creating art!
Try it out!

PE: Watercolour and saltWatercolour and saltPE: Watercolour and salt6 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Watercolour painting provides us with fantastic possibilities to create various textures. They can be achieved in many different ways with use of many different side components and equipment - in this article, I'll focus on salt textures. It usually takes time to get a handle of it - like everything else - but the outcome is definitely worth it.
Water and pigment
The three factors that determine the effects are the amount of water, amount of pigment and amount of salt, with the two first being the harder part. The more water you use, the more time it takes for the paint to dry and the more time the salt has to work - therefore the pigment will be pushed further away and you'll get bigger, paler spots between darker pigment borders. Less water will get you smaller, star-like

Hook, Line, and Sinker: How to Start Your StoryHook, Line, and Sinker: How to Start Your StoryHook, Line, and Sinker: How to Start Your Story10 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
You have the story idea, a brief outline (or not), and enough motivation and/or preparation to place your fingers on the keyboard and think, Let's begin. But how does one, in fact, begin a story? How do you select the perfect scene to situate your reader without putting him to sleep? It's easy to become overwhelmed by the sea of possible beginnings before having typed a single word. This article provides a list of different ways to begin a story, long or short, pointing out their respective advantages and disadvantages. The right beginning can give you just the push you need to send you flying into the world of your characters.
A prologue is a scene or chapter that pertains to the story without featuring your protagonist at the present time. It might show your hero as a child; it might show your antagonist plotting to take over the world; it might show a
