Critique and youThere was a small discussion in my last journal about unhelpful tutorials, that touched the topic of critique.Critique and you1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
So, I decided to talk about critique for a bit.
In the online art community there is no unified stance on critique. Some people are totally incapable of recieving any form of critisism of their creation and think it's the devil. Some think that critique is should always be a "sandwich". Some people think that anything goes and the artist should listen to all feedback if he chooses to publish art online. Some say critique is only valid "constructive" and some say that it doesn't take a chef to know the steak was burnt.
I'll talk about how I percieve it - and mind you, my perception had changed over the years. This is more about what I figured during this time.
Point 1: Feedback is essential for development. That's not a solely artistic thing. Every human activity implies there's a trial and error process involved in the honing of any skill and being taught that skill. Thing is,
Why we fall. - Edited with full postWhy we fall. - Edited with full post5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Art by Allison Smith.
"Why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up."
One of my favorite lines from Batman Begins. However, there are moments where it's rather difficult to get back up, and sometimes we require that one special kick in the ass.
From each tumble, we learn a valuable lesson. A year or so ago, I had hit a personal wall that was proving too difficult to force through. Art, which is usually front and center, took a back sea--and while we've all had art blocks--that wasn't the only issue.
It began with my roommate of two years, whom had decided it was time to move else where. With such a sudden interruption, I had to find a new home and in less than 30 days.
Having also been through a bleak breakup months prior, and finding myself with no pending freelance work and

And here we are! Two Sonic Comic Dramas within the month! I'm on fire baby!
Chaotix Quest like I said is one my personal favourites in the SONIC UNIVERSE arcs Pre-SGW (i.e. Pre-SuperGenesisWave). It's got an involving story about family, interesting antagonists, and friendship. Team Ian and Tracey predominantly did an incredible job with all four issues and I give my applause to their masterful and creative input into some of the best stories that the Sonic Archie comics had to offer - it was a lot of fun, it had action, drama, and a lasting impact on fans of the Chaotix and their adventures in the series.
Also this would be one my most emotional performances in a Sonic comic drama and I'm super pleased with the results.
Special thanks to Tasha for her contributions to Charmy and Matilda. And I wish The StarPost Productions team all the very best in completing their ambitious FULL CHAOTIX QUEST

Evil Westboro Baptist Church leader is deadThe head honcho of that church Fred Phelps passed away today.Evil Westboro Baptist Church leader is dead1 year ago in Personal More Like This
You do not realize how much of a relief this is to a lot of people who were against this guy and his church!
If you guys haven't head about them, the Westboro Baptist Church is known for the extreme anti-gay and hatred for America. These people says that God hates everybody. They were happy for 9/11, they are glad for dead soldiers! These people are crazy! They are unmerciful to other people and their beliefs. This is like an anti-everything church. Everyone hates this church and so do I. Here's some more info about the hater church:
I like to believe that God had something to do with Fred Phelps' death. This guy no doubt was full of wickedness that he had to be smitten. And I'm hoping that with the leader of the church gone, that the people of the church will scatter and decrease. A lot of people are probably happy that the leader of the most h
On Behalf of Everyone...Thank You.Earlier today I received a message from our Studio B receptionist letting me know that a package had arrived for me. While I wasn't at the studio, I had my good friend pick it up so I could retrieve it from her later on. At first I was a bit weary to the situation, I didn't know who it was from, nor was I expecting anything in the least. All day while Raven and I passed our time at the mall, I pondered and worried about the strangeness of the situation. I found it odd that someone would send a bouquet of beautiful flowers and two carefully wrapped presents to the studio (who wasn't my husband to be anyhow!)On Behalf of Everyone...Thank You.4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Later on in the evening, I met up with Nicole and I finally got to see the gifts in hand. I brought them home and unwrapped them to find two giant boxes of delicious treats, and a letter that made my heart and mind feel at ease again. "SGT Dave", a soldier currently placed in Iraq had sent these wonderful gifts

The Last Shooter: Spec Ops the LineThis discussion came to me while watching a walkthrough of this game and I felt like putting it somewhere. The Last Shooter: Spec Ops the Line3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm generally a fan of Shooter video games. They're fast paced, require a certain amount of skill to complete (the good ones) and are exciting to play with gorgeous vistas, creative monsters, and sometimes interesting plots to unravel like in Bioshock, which I still consider one of the best game plots of all time. Shooters to me are less aggravating then fighting games, less time consuming then roleplaying games, less lonesome generally then puzzle games if you can find friends to co-op. Certainly Shooters have gotten a little samey over the past few thanks to everyone either copying Modern Warfare or Gears of War but some of my fondest gaming memories remain co-opping with my brothers on Halo 3 and having a blast.
I've seldom played a straight up military shooter. My confusion originally lay in why anyone would want to play a video game with such a limited arse

Compare to all of the other commissions this lineart rough took about an hour or so - much quicker since it's within my comfort zone.
Now, why the thunder? Well... You know that eerie feeling you get from a stormy night and you're inside a spooky mansion of sorts (you're most likely either dreaming or watching a scary movie), then suddenly... CRACKABOOOOOM!!! You turn around and see a few flashes of light coming from the window and whatever you see that is surrounding you is reflecting obscure silhouettes for only a few seconds.
THAT is the kind of atmosphere I'm going to try to recreate here in this one shot. I really hope I can render this just right. Probably give me another few more hours to get the job done.
And thanks to everyone who commented and shared their thoughts on which composition to go for - I went with what my gut told me as well as what you guys had suggested (including my cli
Help Me Get Back On RAT RAGE With Patreon! UPDATE!Help Me Get Back On RAT RAGE With Patreon! UPDATE!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
UPDATE: So far we're at 13 people jumping on board for this! You guys are awesome! A few people have messaged me and are quite confused about how it works and the way I have this set up though, so I can explain a bit more:
The way Patreon works is that you pledge per upload or per month (in my case, per upload). So if you subscribe to paying $1 per webcomic page upload, and if I upload 4 pages a month, you're paying $4 a month. If you subscribe at the higher tier at $5 with the extra goodies/content, you pay $20 per month. I think many would just like to read at the entry-level tier, and hopefully, a dollar isn't too much. You can also set a monthly spending limit on your Patreon account so you don't end up spending more than you can afford.
I've always had a bit of anxiety with Rat Rage; considering that it's anthro, I know it will not mesh well with a lot of people. But I will never cross that "weird side" since it's anthro. I'm just no

Being part of DeviantArt had allowed me to open up my eyes to the variety of styles that existed beyond my own backyard and of the people who created such works. Can creator owned comics save the comics industry?
The Comics Industry is going through something of a secret crisis right now. A crisis that could have been avoided, but one where there is still a way out. The two biggest problems are a stagnation of business ideas and lack of sales.
Let’s look at the origins of these problems
For years many have bemoaned the fact that comics have lost their easy accessibility. For decades comics w

Atomic MusingsWe are, all of us, immortal.Atomic Musings3 months ago in Personal More Like This
The particles that made all of humanity, all our possessions, companions, surroundings, treasures: they are all the leftovers of the dead. The dead return to the earth, their matter-energy reforming and being consumed and recreating the new - the dead live on, in you, in me, as star-pieces.
Our thoughts and feelings, are but dregs of nuclear fusion from the sun's heart that continue pushing the cycle of energy back into the universe. It cannot be created or destroyed. The tiniest bit of the boiling cauldron of our sun-mother fuels each cell that makes us blink, breath, love, speak.
So when you cry, it is thus: from shreds of star-stuff, you, a star-born yourself, are weeping little stars pregnant with the flame of the First Explosion.
When you laugh, you found arrangements of the universe humorous enough to give it a bigger share of your own fire.
And when you die, you will not disappear, no; you will disperse your mass-energy back into the universe so that

Why I like Sonic the HedgehogI wouldn't say it's a rant, but it does hold some opinions on variations of Sonic. And I was having a chat with some Skype friends about childhood interests that we hold onto and it got me thinking. Why I like Sonic the Hedgehog4 months ago in Personal More Like This
Anyway, here's some background.
I don't faintly remember any Sonic before I was 9 or 10ish. My brother actually happened to have Sonic CD on his computer back in the 90s, and I didn't find out it was Sonic CD until I did research as a teenager. I knew it had to be Sonic CD because I remember time travel being a thing and I definitely remember a pink hedgehog girl.
Anyway, get to about Gamecube era of gaming and one day, we rented Sonic Adventure 2 (back in a time where video stores still existed). I was hooked onto the game, and I was only able to make it to the Final Story but couldn't get past Knuckles' part of the Final Story. Then we ended up having to take it back.
Years later we were able to get our own copy and I finally completed the game.
And I gotta say; Shadow's deat

[WARNING: If you do not enjoy the presence of people/fangirls portraying their pointless problems in a journal, I'd suggest you pick a different journal to poke through and ponder.]
First of all, I found the soundtrack of Franco Zeffirelli's production of Romeo and Juliet on vinyl at the mall. I wasn't very interested in buying it, but I noticed the record wasn't quite in all the way and required someone shifting it in the paper sleeve inside. I pulled it out, fixed it, and noticed the lovely name "John Lennon" on the back. I grew extremely confused, but realized after looking at the rest of the sleeve an advertisement for posters for $1.50. I also noticed it offered three Beatles' posters, a Bob Dylan poster, posters of other random artists, and (my favourite) a fabulous George Harrison poster. It showed his face on the right with several snapshots on the left. "Best" part of this story is that the advertis
