Ever feel like you've lost direction in your life? Don't know where you are, where you're going, or where you're supposed to be? Then you are a perfect candidate for a Compasso!

The Basics

:bulletpink: What are Compasso?
Compasso are creatures born from those who are lost. Their one purpose is to help their host find what they need to find!

:bulletpink: What they need to find? Like a lost pair of shoes?
No!! Go find those yourself! Compasso are meant to find what a person may not even realize they need or are looking for. Things like a sense of purpose, friendship, love, revenge... You get the idea!

:bulletpink: Well how the hell do they do that?
Great question! Compasso are born with an innate sense of direction. While they may not realize what they are helping a person find, they do know the general idea of where to go to achieve it. Their job is to guide a person to that goal, so it involves a little give and take.

:bulletpink: What if they don't want to help?
IT'S THEIR PURPOSE IN LIFE. Of course, there are some more rebellious Compasso--often ones that have already helped their first host find their purpose, and now have to try to find others that need their help (their innate sense of direction and need to follow it can get rather annoying for them, as after their first host it will try to compel them to another).

:bulletpink: You keep mentioning "host"...
Compasso are born from a deep sense of being lost, so initially appear to one person to help them. Specifically, they pop up from a magical rose that appear to those who are lost.

:bulletpink: And what happens after they finish their task of helping their host?
Once a Compasso has assisted their host in achieving what they need, they lose that sense of "direction" inside of them. Often they choose to stick around their original host, but at some point in time the sense of direction will awaken again within them and they will be compelled to find their next host. Some choose not to follow it, of course, but like I said the nagging of needing to go find something for them can really get to them.

Physical Traits

:bulletpink: What physical traits make a Compasso a Compasso?
Compasso have three traits that really define them. Those are:

:bulletpink: "Compass: eyes!
Not literally, but their eyes have a compass-like pupil. With these they are framed with a second color, so Compasso have multicolored eyes. This compass-pupil has a tendency to turn/rock back and forth when they are uncertain or confused, similar to a compass trying to focus.

:bulletpink: "Compass Rose" ears!
Unlike an actual Compass Rose, these are actual roses that bloom inside of a Compasso's ears. The closer a Compasso is to achieving their goal, the more the inner rose will bloom. After they've finished their goal, the rose blooms completely and falls out of their ears (however, a new bud will appear when they are supposed to find someone new to assist). However, if a Compasso goes too long without trying to actively help their host, the rose will start to wilt... Once it loses all of its petals, the Compasso often dies.

As a note, though, a Compasso's rose can not die if it's in bud form. It starts to bloom once a Compasso has found their new host and started to help them.

:bulletpink: "Spoon" tails!
Their tails have a noticeable dip in them, no matter the shape. It's to resemble the first version of the compass. If they're large enough, Compasso often like to sit in the dip in their tail or will even carry things in it.

Compasso are a closed species

I'll add shit here when I think of it or if more questions turn up! So if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Your Feedback

Thanks for your feedback on last week's Site Update! Here's some of what you had to say.
  • Feedback regarding the update to the Earnings page was positive.
  • Responses to the Discuss topic varied. Several deviants mention that they add Prints to their Wishlist when browsing, and then purchase them at a later date, while other deviants mentioned searching in the Prints Shop or browsing their Favourites for artwork that has Prints enabled.

In June, Multi-Submit was launched, giving Premium Members the ability to easily upload and submit several deviations from the Submit page all at once. Have you used Multi-Submit? If so, how often do you use it, and what do you submit with it? Do you find it easy or useful to be able to submit multiple deviations at once?

'You don't use your Character/Design Hoader/Price'

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 29, 2014, 6:32 PM

Someone needed to make a journal about this.

I have many characters and designs, roughly 30+ from ones I made myself, some I bought, some I traded, and some given to me. From those I have 'fan made', original, and closed/open species characters. Every single one of my characters have a typed up Bio, proper ref, and own folder on my computer. Every single one is properly 'cared for'. I commission art all the time to 'care' for my characters and support the art community, I draw my characters all the time from doodles at work to drawings privately stored on my computer (I only post roughly half the art I make online), and even if I didn't 'care' for them in this way these characters and designs belong to ME. I can do (almost) whatever I wish with them.

I have gotten a lot of "You are hoarding characters/You don't use your characters!" and "Leave some for the rest of us!"
It's extremely rude to assume someone doesn't care for their character(s) just because they don't have the time or means to draw them every second of every day and even ruder to assume they are a 'hoarder' when they have what people consider 'a lot of characters'. Most of my characters were bought or traded for especially the species ones such as my mantibabs, water dogs, ren fair, sushi dog, etc and at one point everyone in the entire community had an equal chance of acquiring them.

Another common phrase I hear A LOT is "I don't have enough money/You are rich/These characters are too expensive."
I work a full time 40+ hour job, I save my money, and I budget my money. Regardless of your age or situation you are capable of doing the exact same thing to some degree. Art is also a luxury and many artists want some form of payment for their work and creations, which is completely reasonable, and usually that is money. People do not, nor should they be expected, to give out their work, time, and creation without some form of compensation. Many of the characters I and others own that were bought were on commission or for auction for a VERY fair price or starting bid and were available to nearly every single user on this site at one point. People fairly bought or bid to acquire that character and yes, sometimes that price may seem 'high' to others but bottom line is it was offered for a FAIR price to begin with.

Which brings me to my last point.
An artist should NEVER feel guilty that their work is sought out for, demanded, or bought for a good price.
This is THEIR art and as a community built upon ARTISTS shouldn't we support these ARTISTS for doing well with THEIR art?
Shouldn't we be happy they are succeeding and even living off of what they love?

Because that is not what I see half of the time.
In nearly every single Auction or Commission journal I see extremely rude, unwanted, and unnecessary same few comments of:
"This is too expensive/Not worth this much!"
"This design/species is unoriginal!"

Who the hell are YOU to judge what is worth this much and that so and so is unoriginal especially ON THE ARTISTS OWN DEVIATION/JOURNAL?
"Freedom of speech/I'm just giving my opinion/I'm giving critique/It's a public forum!"
None of these statements are any form of an excuse to be a rude asshole which is exactly what you are when you make comments such as these ESPECIALLY if they are not asked for. This has been said a million times but all you have to do is ignore, walk away, or keep it to yourself. When you post comments like this how do you think it makes an artist feel because I guarantee it's not a positive feeling in the least bit.

The entire point to this journal and the bottom line is:
Think before you post because those words mean a lot more than a few pixels on a screen.

So for the past few weeks my school janitor has been drawing on our cafeteria's whiteboard to remind kids to clean up after themselves. Apparently his drawings got really popular online, which makes me really happy for him! Perhaps you've already seen these pictures, or maybe not, but regardless, I will post them here and make you look at them again. >u>

One Two Three

There have been many misinterpretations regarding the drawings that I've read...most being along the lines of, "Those kids probably don't know those characters", "Those are at a high school? Why aren't they vandalized?", and, "This janitor probably doesn't even get appreciated". But my gosh those are all so wrong. Everyone is literally in awe at them, and are eager to see the next ones whenever they may come up. Our janitor certainly does get appreciated, with special announcements about the artwork and all that. All the assumptions people were making bugged me, and I felt the need to post the truth of the matter somewhere. so now you guys are stuck with me rambling. idk.
