The Waxen LullabyFarewell to leaning fortress grey,The Waxen Lullaby2 years ago in Songs & Lyrics More Like This
Your bower walls are winding trees.
Crowns aflame with breaking day,
A-tremble in the breeze.
Send your wandrings to the sky,
Set your mantle shining bright,
Outrun the blood-red eventide
Outshine the stars at night.
Let your weary steps be swayed
Far from your hearth, far from your home.
Life and longing now forbade
When to the witchs realm you roam.
Be wary, fear the cursed gaze
Weathered face and eye of stone,
Embers in the ashes blaze,
And you are waxen to the bone.
No weary falling of the limb!
No sight to see the sunrise dim!
No touch to feel the fallen snow!
Afar afar afar you go!
And you are waxen to the bone.

I am a lousy soap opera,
a dying monologue,
wolf boots and cricket hair,
full of questions and denial.
I throw postage on love letters
I duck under the kitchen table
all I'm hoping for is an explosion.
Maybe the letters could create a new solar system.
I would be the mini suns and moons
and you could be gravity
or lice or a Barret that was never worn,
really, I don't care, dress accordingly.
Oh I have a question:
Why do we always turn our backs away,
why are we consistently empty and aching,
when does the road end, and life begin?
The silence is a wrench stuck in my throat
I'll gladly choke on to avoid you.

By the mists of a passing front, aged and befogged as bygone elders
Doddering about before there were names for the malaise
That hazed their thinking
And from this modest crown there slouched and sloped
A long shoulder, meandering down to meadows below
Pausing now and again to coddle a pleasant hollow
Casting a sloping pitch enough to rush a torrent
After a sudden shower
Its glint and glimmer burble among the stones
To join a rill and plash and swirl and putter about a root
It's there I'm apt to wander
Not much of a path, hard passed and thorny
As twisted and narrow as the thoughts of bigoted men
Treading there finds stern resistance and stones to turn the foot
The clatter and crunch of brittle leaf acorns pop and skitter
A plenteous crop, beyond the appetite of wild things at forage
Leathery husks abound, pignut hickory the ebon stains of walnut
On taking pause the quiet lay, a

This new room looks nothing like the old one. It has a dingy white checkerboard floor glass walls on all sides and round white furniture and appliances. However, it is very run down and there are plants growing on the surrounding walls and hanging from the ceiling.
“Hello, and again, welcome to the aperture Science Enrichment Center.” Oh, no. Why does there have to be another automated voice?! “We are currently experiencing technical difficulties due to circumstances of potentially apocalyptic significance beyond our control.” Wow, way to make feel even better about all of this, you stupid voice. “However, thanks to Emergency Testing Protocol, testing can continue. These pre-recorded messages will provide instructional and motivational support, so that science can still be done, even in the event of environmental, social, economic, or structural collapse.” Just, lovely. I don't know where to turn.
Do I go left or right?
Things are all jumbled up
and I just--
Oh, I just don't know.
My only clear thought
is that I don't want anyone to feel pain or loss
over my confusion.
What's A Christian Heart?A Christian heart isn't Sunday mornings,What's A Christian Heart?1 year ago in Free Verse More Like This
It isn't smiles and potlucks,
It isn't worship in a coffee shop,
Or studying theology at college,
It isn't charity events,
Or traveling the world,
A Christian heart is a broken,
It's a crushed soul and a mourning,
Over sin, over self-hatred, over forgiveness,
It's healing and a heart overflowing,
Feeling suffocated by a grace you can never deserve,
It's a weeping in the night,
Whispered prayers in the dark,
It's a constant falling on your knees,
A constant dying to self,
It's a total surrender,
A complete abandon,
It's insanity and inconceivable,
It's perfection and simple,
It's silence and a still, small voice,
It's joy and shouts from the rooftops,
It's a struggle and a wrestle,
A war of constant battles,
Of your God fighting against sin,
And your sin against God,
It's overcoming your failures,
You only lose if you give up,
It's giving up control and a need to understand,
And knowing you never had control or knowledge at all,
It's not telling

A loud siren bellows for a few times, interrupting our laughter. “Alright, time to get out of here. Hold on tight.” he says as he quickly ascends back up the panel.
The automated voice cuts in again and says, “All reactor core safeguards are now non-functional prepare for reactor core meltdown.” The room starts leaning to the right as if it is suspended. I actually listen to the guy’s instructions and huddle inside the closet set in the wall and hold on for dear life. The room jolts again and part of the wall begins to fall off. As the walls and floors begin falling away I can see large crates set up like storage bins that look like my room. Oh look. The stupid picture fell down the hole. Good riddance.
“Alright, I wasn’t gonna mention this to you, but I’m in PRETTY HOT WATER here.” says the man from above. You’re in hot water? I’m the one IN THE ROOM YOUR BONKING AROUND!
