There’s a hint of fairy dust in the air at the Firefly Path workshop where JoEllen Elam (Lillyxandra) brings her fairytale costume creations to life.
Weaving her magic through every piece of the enchanting princess gowns and fantastical fairie wears she creates, JoEllen is here to show that Cinderella isn’t the only one with a fairy godmother. Armed with only a love for cosplaying, a passion for costuming and a can—do attitude, this self taught costume designer beg
Free! Iwatobi Swim Club cosplay shoot outtakes! When my friends and I first heard of "that swimming anime" called Free!, this is pretty much what we expected:Free! Iwatobi Swim Club cosplay shoot outtakes!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Not that there's anything wrong with that hahah, but all we were expecting was to be able to laugh at how exploitable and full of fanservice this show could be because swimming would require everyone to be half-naked. Although it started out that way, the more episodes we watched, the more we realized...
We were wrong. So wrong.
What we got was a heartwarming coming-of-age story with endearing characters and interesting dynamics. It spoke of friendship and learning your self-worth and figuring out what drives you forward.
I'd write more about how I feel about it but it would take up too much time and space over here, so here are a couple of posts that have already done the job well:
1. A detailed literary analysis and trope driven deconstruction of H
Copyright Infringement vs. Art Theft, a rant.As I've advertised many a times before, I have a store here http://www.redbubble.com/people/lillykitten on a site called Redbubble. It sells Tees, Hoodies, Stickers, Posters, iPhone and iPad covers. One of the things I love about it is I can get pop culture Tees there for my obscenely large Geek Shirt Collection where other printing groups, like Cafepress, Zazzle and even DA its self refuse to sell fanart because of the copyright issues.Copyright Infringement vs. Art Theft, a rant.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have no problem with this refusal, they're abiding by the rules and respecting the original artists. That's a GOOD thing...
However... Being a fan artist myself, when it comes to copyright infringement of pop culture icons, I'm guiltily ambivilant. I love fan art, I love seeing people's different interpretations, I love the terrible terrible jokes we make about our fandoms... and I will buy, and will continue to buy tees, stickers and prints done by fan artists.
The fact is merchandising

4chan compromisedUNNECESSARY NECESSARY PREFACE!4chan compromised7 months ago in Personal More Like This
I'm well aware that not all of 4chan is "evil" and that not all people who participate or visit 4chan are "evil" either. This journal uses large sweeping generalizations because that's helpful for having a larger discussion. I'm not interested in minutia, I'm interested in the big picture here. And sadly, even if you love 4chan, it has a reputation which precedes it and you cannot deny that. So please, don't comment here with "But not ALL 4chan is bad!" remarks, ok? I know. I understand.
So here’s the latest that I’ve been able to discover about the GamerGate movement. Apparently 4chan and other like-minded websites have been “compromised.” Mods are now banning or deleting threads and discussions about GamerGate. This, naturally, has led many to assume that 4chan is “under control” by Social Justice Warriors (SJW for short) and a lot of people are leaving 4chan now to find other websites (or poss

In the past week I have experienced two noteable 'seconds'. Firstly I was awarded my second DD for which I have given thanks already. Also I have passed my second anniversary of being here on Deviant Art. I am still enjoying my time very much with you amazing people. I know some people have moved on but there are always new people joining who I am happy to meet and welcome as I was welcomed so warmly two years ago. Two years eh? Doesn't time fly when you are enjoying yourself? It does for me. I hope I have become a better photographer and a better editor in my time here. I know I am better in many other ways.
In my profile there is a brief note about me. Well for the last few years I have been exploring the UK and taking pictures of my travels. I decided to get to know my own country after years of neglecting it. I have found many magical places and met many wonderful people along the way. I am so happy to share these experiences with you here. I always try

As always~ English is not my native language so you might come across mistakes. My apologies! If anything is unclear feel free to ask me in the comments.
I'm just showing you what works for me and what's my personal liking. I'm focusing on eye make-up and additional tips. If you think this way of doing a boys cosplay make-up is is using way too much make-up that's totally fine. Everyone has his/her own preferences and this tutorial is just a hint who it can be done.
The shape of eyes differ a lot from one to another, so if you want to try it the way I do my make-up you might have to adjust it to your own eyes. Maybe you have already run into this problem before while seeing a well done eye make-up in a tutorial or worn by an asian cosplayer. Furthermore be aware of the fact that the shape of your eyebrows, wearing c

There are a multitude of things that can make this world a better place and art is one of them. It speaks to us in unique and personal ways. No two people view a piece of art with exactly the same perspective.
When a work of art is presented to the public, the one belief that is shared by each beholder is that the piece was indeed created by the artist who proclaims as much.
Fifty years ago art theft meant a completely different thing than it does today. Theft usually involved the actual pilfering of a physical piece with the intent to sell it. The lesser known crime of forging an artist’s style and rendering a copy purported to have been painted by the usually famous artist was also mostly an opportunistic money grab.
With the advent of the internet things have changed. Traditional art theft is no less prevalent, but because there is a much larger forum for placing art w

So a lot has happened since my last update! I've been posting photos of costumes I've made so you'll know approximately which cons I've been going to So this'll be more of a life update.
Well, first of all my family had to make a very difficult decision, and we had to leave our home in Canada. It was very hard - my daughter was born there and all our dearest friends live there, however a lot of things were beyond our control. We now live in Finland (where I was born) and are settling in. It sucks more than you know, but we'll deal and you know, maybe something good will come out of this.
jj-dreamworldz visited us here for a month and we even made it to a con in cosplay, but since I had to sell my computer I haven't been able to post any photos. Otherwise cosplay is probably going to take a back seat for a bit (though there's one costume I'm
SORRY BUT I NEED TO RANTI HATE how societal values have leaked into cosplaying. Why do I say that? Well, in case you haven't noticed, cosplaying has turned into who looks the sexiest and other similar crap. It makes me want to cry. When I first started cosplaying, it was really about how well made things were and how well rounded as a cosplayer you were. You didn't really judge people as much, and if you were wearing the same character/cosplay, you were cool with it. Now, if you are wearing the same cosplay, you get glares or compared to others and embarrassed/shamed. This is why I hate doing characters like Tifa, because there are usually a few around. Some of them are very judgmental. A few think it's cool and congratulate you.SORRY BUT I NEED TO RANT1 year ago in Personal More Like This
What has this turned into?!?!
Cosplaying is a hobby. Meaning IT'S FOR FUN. Not everyone is born with awesometastic sewing or construction skills. They shouldn't stop us from doing what we love. I hate that we as a society have become so shallow and superficial. I care much more

You guys don't know how proud I am for the drawings I made here http://nettopainter.deviantart.com/art/Skullgirls-Joystick-Cover-384299634 , I mean, I think I personally did a great job mimicking the style of Skullgirls, and most of the stuff I did I made it myself. It's a great feeling of accomplishment.
As an artist, sometimes you feel some kind of negativity towards your art, thinking it's not good enough or you simply don't like the style, and the feeling of seeing something that you are actually proud of is something that leaves you in a good mood. In this case I felt really happy for it, specially because it's also one of the fastest drawings I have ever done of... damn, like, 11 characters? (2:30 lineart, 4:00 coloring and shading. /30-40 minutes every full drawing.)
Anyhow, it was a great day, I felt very happy. But sometimes I feel like

This is a cause that is really important to me, since my mother and many friends suffered of this illness. I, myself, have Anxiety Disorder and Bipolarity and I'm still fighting to live a normal life. Fortunately, I've recently had help and I'm getting better as the days pass. Living with Anxiety Disorder is really difficult. Most people will never get the help they need, or be laugh at by people who don't understand what they are going through. I was also surprised to see many people I look up too who also have mental illness. You are not alone. Stay strong, stay positive, even though it's hard. On March 1, 2012 the Nevada DMV issued the first license for a Google Driverless Car. The idea behind this innovation is that one day soon new technology will drive cars safer and more skillfully than humans, thus saving lives and billions of dollars in car crashes. How well this idea catches on is a bit questionable, given the powerful “romance” of driving one’s car, but it’s certainly an indicator of things to come in the daily intersection of human and artificial intelligence and mobility. There have always been those who have dreamed of stepping into a mechanical exo-skeletal-type “suit” and letting the engineering do the work, insta
