Chapter Ⅰ - All that jazz
I awoke from my slumber, gasping for breath. I have been continually having vivid dreams. I rose from my bed and went to the restroom. These visions have been haunting me for months now. The light of the bulb burned my retinas for a moment, and I turned to the mirror. My choppy blonde bangs stuck to my forehead and my eyes were a sickly green. The darks circles made me look like a panda more than a healthy man. The thought about my dream, they all have been the same thing. A man that looked like me; but he was in the past. He was everything I was against, I was a man of the law and he was a slave to his own greed. I would never dare to steal and kill as he did. But why… why did it feel like I wanted it? The adrenaline was mine, the sword in my hand. I observed my hand closely; my fingertips still feel the sensation of the metal. I’ve been feelin

you drank out of out-of-order wells because you believed they still worked and that the government was keeping it all to itself.
i never realized how insane you made me before i wrote this all down.
ii. i wished on the sun because i ran out of shooting stars.
and just to spite me, you began wishing on raindrops because you believed that they were so many, one of them was bound to remember you.
but we both ended up laughing hysterically with protruding knives on a bloodstained floor, didn't we?
iii. i talked to clockwork towers and told them to lie because if they stopped for just a while, all the time in the world would seize.

with your words
and promises I'm tired
of keeping -
in spite of
all of mine to let you
handle it all this time.
There are too many voices
inside the headlessness driven
It's much too hard to look
over your shoulder and still know that
there is far more to you
and silent anger.
It's just too hard
to love you again.
I might find stars to speak for
me, among the jury of the deserted;
Skeletons of a secret I
forgot too soon,
speaks too quietly for me to hear
that the end is near,
yes, the end is near.
Perhaps your lies are red blatant and
and your voice so icy cold
that your gaze even in the warmth of a glorious sun
does nothing more
than hurt so relentlessly.
Let my thoughts roam free and so will you.
I will end the rest of what I was
it is exhausting to
know that there was once
a you I used to know.
I can't keep
waiting here on a hope
that has brought me down
far too many times.
So just forgive me this one last time.

Your first thought goes something along the lines of, 'What is this feeling?' Your second, 'What is this icy vise that's gripping my heart?'
His breath came short. His hands trembled, one stained red where it clutched his side. Bile rose in the back of his throat. His eyes darted about, frantically seeking that which they could not find. Dodging around behind a pillar, he tried to quiet his breathing in order to hear better, but the frantic thundering of his heartbeat drowned out all else.
Your third thought is of whether or not you can escape the thing or things that have caused this feeling, this unfamiliar sensation to creep about your mind, and then worm its way into the very center of your thoughts, your being, chokin

Somehow, Kefka had captured Celes and Terra as they had been trying to enter the Magitek facility. The former General could only presume that use of Stop magic had been involved, as she had barely blinked just in time to find herself tied to the ground in a kneeling posture.
And she knew for a fact that many of the ropes served no purpose. Only those binding her hands and legs had a role, and they were separate from the web of them criss-crossing her torso. Judging by the way the ropes were tied around certain parts of her anatomy the intent was obviously to humiliate her.
Terra, meanwhile, stood as still as a statue, with Kefka looking at her in a rather revolting manner. Celes felt herself growling angrily just at the thought of what he might have been thinking. Terra stood with a startled look on her face, still grasping a now invisible sword, likely discarded by Kefka. Her wide eyes stared blankly into nothing, as Kefka heard the sound from

Connor decided to show Ellie his mother’s message for him later that day. She had helped him find the other one for his father earlier.
Josh was showing Desmond where he and Connor used to practice their archery, so Connor and Ellie were alone.
The screen went black and tears were streaming down Ellie’s cheeks. She pulled Connor into a huge hug and silently cried into his neck. “My mom wrote a letter like that to me,” she whispered.
Connor held her tighter and buried his face into her hair. Relief came over him and his heart rate finally slowed down when he realized that she really understood how he was feeling. Now, all he wanted to do was go back to Saratoga and give his mother’s message to his father.
“Ellie, would you be upset if we left a day early?” he asked, pulling away.
Ellie shook her head. “No,” she paused and bit her lip. “Connor, what was she talking about when she mentioned Jenny?”
Connor stiffened and deci

There's no such thing as the bogeyman.
There is no such thing as an embodiment of terror. No such thing as monsters under the bed. No such thing as terrible beings hiding in the shadows, coming to get you when you least expect it.
Even now, when the full moon lights up an otherwise pitch black sky, there is nothing to be afraid of. Especially when surrounding by thick, solid walls, in the safety of one's bed, this applies. Especially when there are several others lining the wall, each filled with a contently sleeping body, always reassuring you that you are not alone.
The little girl at the St. Catherine's convent tries her very best to remember that. She has to. It's the only way she will ever be able to sleep. The only thing that will make her feel somewhat safe in this large, echoing hall.
She has been at the convent for a while now. Half a year at the very least. Frankly, it's not so bad to live here. The nuns are kind and she is well-fed. Every day, after her chor

The two Master Assassins sat in an office, one open to anyone at Masyaf, shelves lined with books towering around them against the four walls if the small, rectangular room. Mostly, the two assassins did not use it very often; usually they were too busy to sit down and relax, and when they did have free time, they would spend it practicing fighting or entertaining their young sons.
One of the assassins, a man with messy black hair, charcoal eyes, and a long, hawk-like nose was sitting in one of the chairs with a small stack of books on the table separating him from the other man with his hidden blade sitting next to them, safely out of reach of grabbing hands, although he took no notice of either. Rather, his full attention was on the blue-eyed two-year-old sitting on his lap, who was attempting to shove his entire fist into his mouth.
The other man was lounging lazily in his own chair, the chair tipped back dangerously on its back two legs. The man's muddy, leather boots

Malik yanked the wooden figure out of Kadar's tiny hands, causing the latter to fall down backwards onto his butt and start crying. Malik turned away and crossed his arms over his chest, satisfied, until their mother came into the room, carrying a basket of now clean clothes in her arms. She frowned, taking in the scene, placing the basket delicately on the floor.
"What happened?" she demanded.
"Brubba took the doggie from me!" Kadar wailed.
"Dog?" she asked sharply.
Malik reluctantly held out the little wooden dog statue that she had gotten him for his fifth birthday. "It's mine, and Kadar stole it." he said defensively.
"Malik, Kadar's only three." she said, taking it gently from his hands, "He doesn't know any better. Why don't you just let him play with it? Besides, your his older brother, and you're supposed to protect Kadar, not be mean to him."
Their mother handed the toy to Kadar, who's crying ceased abruptly. Malik glared at them both and stomped out of the

Bells toll into the night of New York, their sounds drifting through the dark winter sky. Their distinct song can be heard from miles away, recognized by all who live in the city. Some sound strong and deep, like thunder after a hot summer's day, others soft and frail, like the whispers of an angel. All of them join together in their wordless song, beckoning their listeners to come and pray.
The Riverside Church is an icon of New York. A strong, large symbol of God's presence in this city. It is visited daily by many of its citizens, for activities from baptism to weekly sermons, and is considered a pillar of the community. Yet at this time, the place is quiet and the need for spiritual guidance is outweighed by the need for food and rest after a long day of work. As such, the church is as good as empty and within its ancient walls, a single man quietly prays.
