The ESU got their own group! It costed me a membership, but whatever. Now they've got their super fancy little group.
I will be posting more informations about them, as well as adoption sheets and concept work. Keep your eyes open for the first "Launch Edition" adoptables, they'll be only 250 points and there will be four of them!
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ESU WILL BE A CLOSED SPECIES, INDEFINITELY. A bunch of close friends will be allowed to make them, but other than them, please respect my wish to keep them closed. Thanks!
EDIT - Added the Micro ESU!

How did the introduction of Jazz, Crazes and popular media influence the American populace during the early 1920s?
Brilliant question Silverpoint345, well well well firstly the American public heard the music and was like "HELL NAH THIS AINT MUSIC" cos in the 1920s everyone was kinda boring and didn't do much except for talkin about the weather, then after a while they became more open minded and were like "HELL YEAH THIS IS MY KINDA SH*T" and the

So famed Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki announced recently that he's retiring from Studio Ghibli and from making movies. Everyone is, naturally, sad to see him go and bemoaning his departure... except me. Cuz I've been here before. He's announced his retirement so many times in the past that it has no meaning to me anymore. I remember when he announced his retirement back in 1998, over 12 years ago. Every time he says he's retiring he inevitably comes back in some capacity. I don't know if he truly means it this time, but I'm not holding my breath.
Keiji Inafune's Kickstarter
The creator of Mega Man, Keiji Inafune, recently started a kickstarter program to try and fund a Mega Man knock-off called Mighty No. 9. Inafune says that the reason he's doing this is to show japanese developers that they have options outside the very broken japanese publishing system and gaming industry that he has been very vocal

Movie Talk: Animated Movie Poster/Cover RantSince my journal needs an update i thought hey, why not posting this here, too. This is an art site after all and should be interesting to you as well.Movie Talk: Animated Movie Poster/Cover Rant3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I am someone who might be called a "cineaste" - because it's true. I friggin' LOVE movies. I love watching them, collecting them, doing research, listening to audio commentaries and learning about the backgrounds. And i always had a soft spot for animated motion pictures. Still do. Disney is awesome, so is Dreamworks and the not so wellknown ones.
Lately i went through my DVD-Collection once more and...i just realised again how MUCH i despise the awful covers that go along with most of the animated movie DVD releases. Especially when i recall the original theatrical posters - which are all (design wise) of sheer BRILLIANCE, full of power and emotion and actually dignify the movie's content. Not to be compared with the cheap DVD covers. Little comparison for you to see what i mean - because i felt like doing one.

I thought about her. The whole plane ride, think about (f/n). But she was just a friend, not even, a colleague. But I liked her, not even that, I had fallen in love with her. She was pure beauty, nicest person you could meet, funny, she couldn't see anything because of her choice, but somehow that made it even better. A week, minimum.
Bored. Out of your mind. The guys were gone on their mission, and you were bored. You even were missing Stark, with him being cocky making it funny. But damn, you missed Steve. Had you fallen for him? Nicest person you could meet, funny and adorable how he didnt understand these times. You were in love with him. Crap.
You wondered what he looked like, and if he would be considered attactive.

This attitude is not ok, for many reasons beside it being completely illogical.
1) You don't get to decide who is a geek or not a geek. Period. Geekdom is about acceptance, not rejection. If you're all about Not Liking Other People That Like The Stuff That You Like, you're not a geek, you're a hipster. Who found a pair of glasses.
2) You don't get to decide who is hot and who is not hot. That girl at the con with thick thighs and a little bit of muffin top? She is a perfect 10 in my book, bro. Except that women's bodies aren't up for the judging. Her attractiveness or lack therof does not define her geekiness. The same way that it does not define her social experience. Pretty

Alright as a little update, my long-time (yeaaaarsold) bestfriend, Addison - or Squeaker-Dee as they were once known as, came to visit my in early June and is meant to stay till the end of July. But as things turn out, after my insufferable hinting for months on end prior to their visit - we now are dating and it's the cutest thing ever idec nobody can change my mind, they're the most precious--//sob. But we just got back from a weekend coast trip to Newport or the 4th, we ended up watching the display at Yaquina Bay rom the bridge, got matching Slytherine and Gryffindor shirts, kraken necklaces, and I got them a cuddly sealpup whom they named Rupert, and I got one named Daniel (who is a punk rocker). Aaaaaand as for the rest of my summer, I've been invited to go home with them
The Comic Is a LieDo I really need to do this? Do I really have to write a journal explaining that my SYAC comics are mostly made up? Really, internet, is this a thing now?The Comic Is a Lie2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So yeah... just so we're all perfectly clear on things... the majority of my comics are made up. While they might have an element of truth or be based on a real event, it's all still rearranged, altered, or just plain fabricated to make a joke.
Here's a good rule of thumb: If I don't expressly say it's based on a real thing in my description, you should just assume that it's made up and fake. And even if I do say it's based on a real thing, chances are it's been altered and re-arranged to make the joke work. So really, you should just assume that everything that happens in SYAC is entirely fictional. I know having an "avatar" that in some respects represents me and my opinions can cloud things but still, just assume that everything is made up. Any references to haters, any frustrations a character is going through,
Thank you.For the last few weeks, I've wanted to write a journal expressing gratitude to everyone for all of the support this past year during my term as the CV for the photojournalism community. I can't express how incredible this community is, or the photography community as a whole. It was ironic because I didn't give the photography community much pause during my first four years or so on the site. I had taken only one photography class my entire life in high school, hated it, and then seen cameras as useful for nothing else than catching moments with friends when on the town. That changed though, and I've already told the story of how that happened dozens of times here, so I won't repeat it. But I am glad and thankful my life changed in that way, that I got to see and work for an incredibly vibrant, supportive community.Thank you.2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Last week we set out to prank deviants by introducing a new and completely fake technology: thoughtART! With some hard work and a little magic from dT, thoughtART came to life.
The Idea Behind The Technology
For this project, we were inspired by the advanced technology in "Her," a movie about a new artificially intelligent operating system. After a ton of discussions, we decided to introduce a new piece of technology that can sync with deviants' brainwaves to search for or create art. In actuality, a drawing was selected at random from a group of deviations created beforehand by deviantART staff members using deviantART muro. When users saw the art being created with their minds, they were actually watching deviantART muro redraw the artwork.

Old Programs and BE SAFE in the UkraineTrueSpaceOld Programs and BE SAFE in the Ukraine2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Back in the days when CGI was an expensive prospect, there was one little program on Windows called “TrueSpace.” It was a cheap alternative (costing around $300) for making CG animation in Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. I loved the program and use to make all sorts of animations and cartoons and junk. It was so easy to use I used it right up until college when I got bigger and better programs.
The program went through a lot of changes and upgrades, but the best version was TrueSpace 3.2 and 4. Those two versions were the absolute best of the program in my opinion. After version 4 they kinda... mucked up the interface. Version 7 was even released for free when Microsoft bought them out. Honestly I haven’t tried it since version 4. And even though a lot of newer 3D programs come out and are much fancier and better streamlined and efficient... I’ll never forget using TrueSpace back in the good ‘ol days when CGI was so magical and une
Tracing HellIn the most recent brentalfloss: The Comic (which is about crossovers by the way), I did a parody image of the video game Journey but Doctor Who themed. I chose the iconic image of the character standing before a tall glowing mountain far off in the distance, replaced the mountain with the dying Tardis from "The Name of The Doctor," and changed the Journey character into the 4th Doctor. I thought it was quite good and pleased with the results but... apparently there's a shitstorm brewing (probably on tumblr) about it because I "traced" the Journey image.Tracing Hell2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm no stranger to this accusation, as it happened last year on my London poster with how I portrayed Big Ben. Now, I get the anger over that because it was a poster that was going up for sale and I had used an image of Big Ben that was directly from Wikipedia. Didn't matter that I still drew Big Ben by hand, it was still "traced" and therefor I was considered the lowliest scum on the face of the planet. The internet blew up at me, acc
Pleasantly SurprisedIn my last journal I asked for my fans to rattle off comics that I've done that they felt were my most controversial. I let it be wide open so it would include everything I've ever done, including stuff from my old alternate fetish accounts. My plan was to use that feedback to make a "best of" compilation book to sell at conventions featuring my most anger inducing strips with commentary on both the art itself and my perspective on the blowouts.Pleasantly Surprised2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But I got nothing. Nothing really substantial at any rate. Nothing to fill a book with. I was half expecting to get a plethora of lists about all the various comics I've done which pissed off and offended SO many people... but I didn't even get a handful of suggestions, and most of that bunch were more about lackluster art than about the ideology behind the comic itself. Or they were blatantly obvious divisive things like my series of political cartoons... and those are just "controversial" for the simple fact they are political in nature.

Copyright laws and the patterns we useSo I have been reading up on the copyright laws and specifically about the patterns we use to make the stuff we do.Copyright laws and the patterns we use2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Why? 1) Because I use other people's patterns and 2) I sell the stuff I make. So I have a deep interest in the legalities of it.
A lot of pattern writers forbid others from selling the stuff that is made from their patterns. Some even go to the extreme of charging to be able to sell the items made aka a "cottage license".
A good example of this is Debbie Stoller. She authored the famous book "Stitch and Bitch, The Happy Hooker". Her pattern for the Fat Bottom Bag is awesome, however many people soon found out upon contacting her that she does NOT want the bags made from her pattern sold. RIDICULOUS! Like she can stop millions of people from selling them and legally she can't. She wrote the pattern yes, but that is where the copyright stops.
That's right, in a nutshell the copyright of a pattern stops with the pattern. It does not carry over to works made fro
Fur Market vs. Taxidermy MarketAs of lately, I've had a few people on here mention to me they don't like at all the fact I skin so many animals for the fur market, which makes them completely un-mountable for taxidermy purposes.Fur Market vs. Taxidermy Market2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For instance: Dried fur market skins on the left, complete taxidermy skins on right:
While I can respect that opinion, I would also like to point out that I do have a reason for doing this, and its not that I'm too lazy to skin feet and turn ears! I'll gladly do that for the right price. However, the simple fact of the matter is that I can just sell more animals for the fur. I am a fur trapper and that's all there is to it! It's how I make a good part of my living.
If I skinned every single one of my catches for taxidermy, I just would not be able to sell them all. There just isn't a big enough taxidermy market for common small animals and I do not have the space to store
