"When you stare into the eyes of the shadows,
Do no be surprised when the shadows stare back."
It was just after Christmas. The family of three was flying back to their home town after visiting a few family friends for the holidays. To anyone observing they appeared as any other typical family would. But this particular family was affiliated with things not normally associated with the normal American lifestyle. Namely things that creep around in the dark; hiding from mankind in the shadows. Two separate worlds raveled into one. On some very rare occasion however, these lines could and inevitably would become blurred.
Still a Werewolf at HeartTo be free, a concept for that people have fought and died over for centuries but what does it really mean? We call ourselves a ‘free society’ but it seems as if we are nothing more than slaves. Slaves to debt, slaves to fashion, slaves to society’s expectations but most of all, slaves to the mistakes of our pasts. But what does it truly mean to be free? Is it wrong of me to want to want to get away from all the pressure and restrictions to live a life of pure independence? It was these ‘cabin fever’ like feeling which led me to fall in love with werewolves.Still a Werewolf at Heart10 months ago in Short Stories More Like This
I have always been interested in animals but it was only three short years ago that I became fascinated with werewolves. The idea of true and unrestricted freedom, the idea of becoming something greater than myself, and most of all the pure connection to nature I craved more than anything.
I know I sound like a spoiled brat, I have nothing really to complain about because I have lived a very go

You bark and growl and hate everything about me,
because I can never let you go.
You want to run free across the open world;
too fast for any chains to catch you.
You want to rejoice at the moon and taste the night air,
without fear of my dark cell.
You know release will never come;
we are slaves to one another.
You are trapped here with me in this darkness,
where no one can find us.
Because without you I am completely empty inside.

"Now, for your final test."
The words echoed through the young teenage boy's ears like a thunderstorm. He winced, staring through the blizzard cutting its path through the northern forest. Summer never came to this place. As it stood, it was mid-winter, bringing temperatures too harsh for a man to endure without proper provisioning. But endure this boy did. He stared at the accompanying figure of the tall, stocky man who had addressed him. The voice of the one he recognized as 'father'. Snow stung the boy's eye, causing him to shudder and wince once more .
"Son, you must prevail of your own strength, I must not help you know." Such cruel words, yet said in a mild but suggestively caring manner only brought confusion to the brunette-haired child. The voice rattled into his eardrums again, pounding upon the inside of his cranium as they were spoken. "JJ, you must learn to fight for your survival. Either you live, or you die. Ti

The florescent lighting was giving Nick a headache, right in his temple, but he didn’t bother closing his eyes. It had been like this every morning for the past three years of his life, but it might not be that way ever again. He looked to the clock and frowned when he saw that it was seven pm—he’d slept the day away. He’d only done that a few times on the night after and he was surprised he had done it today.
The television playing on the glass of the right wall was grumbling the same thing every day: the history of World War III. He could recite it by memory, so he didn’t bother paying attention, though he would admit that he’d miss waking up to the familiar sound.
He sat up and ran his hand through his hair, pushing the few locks that fell to his brow to the side. His
Earth and FangThis deep into the ancient maintenance halls of the disused subway system, air ventilation was not sufficient for a fire. Clara Hailey tightened the ratty length of knitting she called a scarf around her weather-worn face and surveyed the other piles of tattered, filthy clothing huddling together for warmth in the dank, dark environment humanity had been pushed into. Her raw fingers squeezed at the frayed ends of her scarf, as telltale sign of her stress. She did that a lot lately. The cold penetrated her into the marrow, as she had very little flesh on her bones to retain body heat. This was no way to live. Only two decades ago, humanity had been the undisputed masters of the world. She had been a child then, but she still remembered the pinnacle of their species. Now there was a whole generation for whom those were only abstract stories.Earth and Fang5 months ago in Short Stories More Like This

No Such Thing as a Simple MissionI have heard some people say knowledge is power while others believe ignorance is bliss. I choose to agree with both expressions because I know how true they can be. For generations, my family and I have used our knowledge to battle the dark, twisted and horrifying evil that lies just beyond the sight of humanity. Our skills and information have helped us succeed but if the public knew of the dangers that threaten them, they could be driven insane with fear. For some, it is best that they know as little as possible. For others, knowing the full picture could mean the difference between life and death. No Such Thing as a Simple Mission7 months ago in Short Stories More Like This
Years of training with my family prepared me for my duty and my latest mission unfolded precisely as I had anticipated. Although it may have seemed like a routine Purge, everyone in my family knows there is nothing routine or simple about killing a werewolf. Nevertheless, I was determined to strike as quickly as possible to prevent the target’s escape and I was ready for anyt

“Sorry. It’s just that being inside for this long isn’t working for me. I gotta move.”
“What do you mean ‘this long’? We’ve only been here since sundown.”
“Ha! That’s easy for you to say. You always loved this kind of thing but it’s like a cage in here.”
“So much for all that training I suppose? Well, you won’t have to worry about it for much longer. There’s about 20 minutes until midnight.”
Agent Noah Conrad lowered his glowing wristwatch and returned his eyes to the tripod-mounted spotting scope he had trained on the hotel across the street. His partner, Agent Arthur Williams, anxiously paced across the dark and empty room they had chosen for the stakeout. Although Noah insisted he would adapt to the scents in the abandoned flat, Arthur tried to clear his nose of the dusty odor in the air.

Howling like the beast we are.

Blacklight - Howlin Cafe
A man in a business suit, an old fashioned hat, and a fine pair of gloves walked into the Cafe la Marks. No one even glanced, businessmen often come to the cafe. He sat down in a booth near the kitchen, carefully laying his brief case on the seat next to him. The waitress came up to him and he ordered a black coffee, as well as a steak, as rare as could be made.
"Will that be all sir?" asked the waitress.
"For now," he said, glancing at the clock, and sipping his fresh coffee. "It is almost the lunch rush isn't it?"
"Yes, we always get a packed house here, I'm surprised that me and the other waitresses can keep up with it."
"That's good. Very good. I suppose you'll be busy, I'll let you carry on. Thank you."

I stamp down the underbrush with my boot. The dry leaves and dead plants snap sharply, like firecrackers. The moon, full, shines through the overhanging branches of the trees. Notes of the silvery light shone like pillars of silvery mist stretching into the sky. The trees, now dark and foreboding in the night, loom over as if looking down on me. My footsteps seem explosive in the dead silence, unbroken except by the sound of small creatures dashing through the grass. I feel, as if I am being watched by the shadows themselves. The sensation seems to increase, like a gentle pressure at the back of my head. I quickly whirl around to face.....nothing. Only the dark trees and darker shadows. I think I see moving figure, in the swirling darkness, seeming to be cloaked in the very dark of night. I hesitate, wondering if it is paranoia from my fear filled mind or an evil figure darker than night itself. The fear takes over, overloading my senses and controlling my limbs.

He was lying on the bed with his hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling, fully dressed and waiting patiently.
It was a fairly small room, made up of a single bed, a small desk and chair, a small cupboard, and a toilet and sink.
After a few minutes there was the sound of the door being unlocked.
It swung open and a man walked in with a clipboard in his hand.
"Alright, it's time. Come with me"
The boy stood up and grunted as he stretched arms into the air.
They both walked down the clean white hallway, past a number of doors with locks on the outside.
"Two years huh?"
The boy didn't reply, he just kept walking with his hands in his pockets.
"I remember when you first got here, never had so much much trouble from one person"
Again there was no answer.
"But look at you now, an entire year early for good behaviour. You should be proud, that the most time off I've seen and I've been here for twelve years"

I really debated on ending the story where I did before, namely because I did have half of the following already typed out.
I still kinda prefer ending it where I did before, but then I decided that, since it existed, the full ending deserved to be an option for readers.

Stone walls enclosed them. The rooms were plunged in darkness. Orion was casually flicking through his notes - although his hand writing was nothing more then a sequence of scribbles.
Murdoc was in his normal position. Normally he admires his hair in the mirror, but now he was frowning. Orion had half toned out his voice, but he could still hear Murdoc's complaining, running his fingers through his hair and stressing that it wasn't 'perfect'. Orion studied him, his face emotionless.
The perfectionist brushed his hair back once more before sighing and occupying the seat opposite Orion. Even through the darkness, they could see each other perfectly. Orion couldn't but help notice the frown etched onto his face. Admittedly, Murdoc was pessimistic by nature - it was just he was, although it seemed to fuel his wish for perfection - but this time he was generally in a bad mood. Weather it was because his beloved hair had los

Welcome to the Madhouse
My name is Samantha Dawson, and as far as I can tell, I’m not going to survive tonight.
In case you’re wondering, I’m just a twenty two year old skinny little nobody, with blonde hair reaching to my shoulders, green eyes, and the worst case of bad luck you might have ever heard of.
You want to know my story, right? What it was like for me before tonight? I tell you, but to be honest I wish I was back in that hell then in the actual thing itself.
My father was a prominent business man, here in Gotham City. Had our own personal shares in some of the major industries. I even remember him saying how he’d have meetings with men like Bruce Wayne. Of all people. Heard he was a pretty decent guy, even after coming back from some big trip that took him years to
