Something about dedication in drawing improvementUPDATED: 2013/11/02 Added 1 personal suggestion at the bottom...Something about dedication in drawing improvement2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Couple of days ago I came across a series of notes & quotes made my various Japanese artists on how to improve drawing. This was not really an article per say but more of cut & paste collection from different source, so the artists had very different background varying from manga-ka, animators & illustrators (including general illustration). While some of them did have specific approach in development, majority of them had 1 thing in common. Which is to weight the practice in quantity, in other word "draw as much as you can".
To me this was rather obvious cause I some what went through this practice earlier in my as I became so called "Artist". (Well that's what people call me and not what I personally feel...) Although the difference is that initially I didn't do it because I wanted to improvement but I just picked up pencil because I like drawing. But in any case their was couple of
Ahhh, when did I receive Senior Member status??oh my god I'm so sorry. I've been so busy with moving (i didn't know my family had so much shit) and other stuff I just haven't logged onto dA for a while.Ahhh, when did I receive Senior Member status??1 year ago in Personal More Like This
But I didn't realize I'm now a Senior Member?? wowowow I don't even know who gave that to me, but thank you so much~~ i know it's just a title, but I remember as a kid first on dA I was like "Seniors are so speciallll i want oneeee" xDDDD. And now I'm old and apparently senior enough to be Senior
Uh, here's something I've been working on. Actually, this thing was done back in November though xD;;;.
um, I'll still be busy for a while preparing my portfolio stuff, so I can't guarantee I'll be on dA, but I will be on Tumblr because that's where I post WIPs (and complain about stuff, talk about stuff i don't think making a journal on dA is appropriate for cause i tend to delete my lil rants xD;; ). Does anyone want me to post my WIPs here too? I remember quite a few peopl
Artbook publishing- how does it work?I was asking myself quite a while how this might work...Haha no I'm not planning to do one yet (since I still need to practice a lot until then).Artbook publishing- how does it work?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But I'm kind of curious how it all works, since I was able to contribute to a few artbooks and was wondering how much the printing costs would be and what is necessary needed beside the illustrations or the layout (I already now how it works fr designing the layout etc.) but which company would be good to print (since I live in germany & am scared that the costs would explode). Does anyone know how it works and would like to share his/her knowledge with us/me *^*
Hey.You are beautiful.Hey.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
You are important.
And don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
On those days - the ones where you can't even cry because you've used up all the tears - just try to stop and think. Think about the people who do love you. Who do care for you so much that if anything happened to you, they wouldn't know what to do.
I just want to write this somewhere for people to see because goddammit, I know. I know how it feels to feel like you're in a constant black hole. I still do. And I have been for too long now.
But I will not give in because I know deep in my heart, someday it's going to get better.
If anyone ever needs to talk, I'll be here. It may take a couple of days to respond, but I'll try.
And why am I posting this?
Let's just say that something happened today and I felt compelled to reach out because I know that even a few words on a screen can make all the more difference in a person's life.
Okay, I admit it.I miss Hetalia.Okay, I admit it.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I miss Prussia and America and Romano and everyone.
I miss the fandom I fell in love with two years ago.
I miss being able to write for it easily; like, three hours and I had over 4000 words for something.
I miss the sheer joy I would feel at just the mere mention of it.
What I don't miss is being so utterly obsessed that it took over my life or the ignorant fans who constantly plagued me for lemons and whatnot.
But I'm a senior in high school now getting ready for college and the real world and I can barely write anything, much less Hetalia things again. I don't really know what I can do with this sudden realization. Well, not so sudden...I've known for awhile now that I missed the fandom, but last night it all kind of hit me - nostalgia, I mean. I was looking at old things I had saved during my major Hetalia phase and I just kind of...fell apart? I guess that's the only way I can describe it.
...so, um...if you remember me back when I was strictly a Hetalia fanfi

5 Ways To Defeat An Artblock This essay here is based on an article from Psychology Today magazine, where the main story is "Confessions of a Sociopath." I couldn’t find this online, and I want you guys out there on deviantART to read this, ‘cause art blocks are the bane of artists. 1) You know that saying “think outside the box”? Well its horseshit. Whoever told you that should be struck in the face repeatedly. You don’t want to think outside the box, you want to take a different approach within the box. It’s like if you’re stranded without a ride home and you think “Maybe I’ll just grow wings and fly home.” There was a test in which participants were prompted to create animals that would not be of this world. The result was that they ended up creating creatures that were awfully similar to earth creatures. It was probably stupid shit like green skinned tigers with red eyes. The reason was that they were told to
WHY to get noticed on dAThere are tons of articles out there that describe what you should do to get noticed on dA. The advice contained pretty much comes down to "if you are active, people will notice you":WHY to get noticed on dA2 years ago in Personal More Like This
fave other people's art - they might fave yours back
comment on other people's art - they might return the favour
use your comments to actually talk to the other artist; don't just say "wow", but tell them why you liked their art; give critiques
use the chats & forums
use your own journal to its full advantage (tell people about yourself / art features / ...)
take care to make your userpage nice-looking and informative
give out llama badges
find some groups to submit your art to
and don't forget to actually post something to your gallery regularly
While all of this is certainly true (seeing as when you don't put your name - with the attached link to your page - out there, no one will have a chance to find you to begin with), the question that remains for me is:
Why do you

Profile Pic: Making A Character Profile SheetProfile Pic: Making A Character Profile Sheet1 year ago in Writing More Like This
First of all, I freely admit that what I say isn't gospel. I am a total amateur at art and writing. I've learned everything that I know via the internet and a few drawing books. It's just that I appreciate all of the tutorials here on dA that have helped me out, and I want to put a little bit of my own methods back in.
Once upon a time, I ran out of things to complain about. And so it was with a heavy heart that I hung up my tutorial-guide hat forever, never to be heard from again…
Just kidding, my life just got massively complicated for a year or so and I didn’t have the time to write anything. I doubt I’ll ever stop complaining. It’s for your benefit. I promise.
Now, how about we smoothly segue into the topic of character profile sheets? For the sake of this guide, I’m talking about sheets in which people include an image of a character they’ve made, along with a slew of information about the character, includi
Looking With Your HandsEveryone’s been there. As a child, your mom would take you to Wal-Mart, Target, or, if you lived near rich people as a kid, Toys-R-Us. Anywhere with toys. And being a child, you wanted to pick them up, play with them, put them in the buggy in hopes that your mom would buy them. Heck, at that age, you didn’t get the concept of money or buying things with money. You just wanted to play with it. And you wanted Mom to let you take it out of the store. If she said no, some of the braver ones among you would sneak it in the buggy anyway. Maybe mom didn’t notice. Maybe she did and bought it anyway.Looking With Your Hands2 years ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This
But typically, what would happen? Your mom would catch your greedy hands and say what?
“No! You can look, but you don’t look with your hands!”
That phrase has always held a special kind of irony for me.
I can’t remember specifically when it started. Used to be just a feeling. I would pick up something and just have a feeling that it belonged to someone. Or
