What's Hot (Beta): Trending Artwork on deviantARTArt on the RiseWhat's Hot (Beta): Trending Artwork on deviantART2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
DeviantART is a bustling and active community, and with the high volume of artwork submitted on any given day, it can be easy to miss something. In fact, it's common for artwork to go viral across the Web or get a spike of traffic days, months, or even years after it was originally submitted.
Our new “What’s Hot” browse mode surfaces artwork that’s receiving a recent increase in exposure, regardless of when it was submitted.
A New Way To Surface Artwork
We often see artwork gain a lot of attention across the Web (after being shared on blogs, social sites, etc.), but by the time this recognition occurs, our search engines don't consider it when displaying recently "Popular" deviations. The new "What’s Hot" mode is built to celebrate these surges of exposure.
What's Hot vs. Popular
The content of the “What’s Hot” page uses an algorithm that reflects what artwork has recently garnered attention, regardless of when it was subm

Copying to learnI have been asked a few times whether it's ok to copy someone's style of drawing just to practice. I must admit that I've done my share of copying when I was in high school, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as you move on from just imitation to developing your own creative style. The way I see it is that when you're copying, you are trying to understand how the artist is thinking when he/she draws, and through that you learn more about what it is you are drawing and that's when you can start creating your own style. I had mentioned before that back in school, I got to the point where I could pretty much mimic Naoko Takeuchi's style and draw my own original Sailormoon fan art in it, but over time I found that it was lacking because it really wasn't 'me' coming through in the work… which lead me to explore and look into what was to become my current 'style.' Of course it didn't just come to me overnight, and it was informed by more than just Sailormoon – ratheCopying to learn2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Now that the title of my journal has your attention I hope I can spread a little bit of positivity. Ahh! Caught you unawares!
I was inspired to write this journal following a conversation I had tonight with a good friend. I wanna talk about . . . creativity. And originality. And not selling out.
Pull up a chair.
If you're not careful, dA can be like crack.
Yeah, I said it. You know it's true!
If you are not careful, you can become addicted to the rush of excitement you feel when lots of people add your work to their favorites. And making it to the front page, OMG, it's like sheer adrenaline coursing through your veins. When I did that, I just sat at my computer refreshing the screen, clearing out favorites, then refreshing and repeating for, like, hours, until the flood stopped.
Even if you've never made it to the front page, we all remember what it feels like the first time our work hit 100 faves. Or even 50 faves. Or hell, even that first fave mea

I work with a wide variety of fabrics depending on what is needed for commissions. My work is primarily made from fleece or minky, but I can also use faux fur and cotton. I use felt, yarn, buttons, safety eyes, fabric dyes, sequins, beads and other craft materials to achieve various effects.
I take payment through Paypal. You do not need a paypal account to pay through paypal's website as you can also use a credit card.
I offer two payment options: you can either pay the entire cost of the commission up front, or you can pay a 50% deposit (so I can purchase materials) before I begin y
I Can See, Bullies, and BirthdaysYesterday I picked up my new glasses! I knew I had a little difficulty with seeing, but I had no idea how extreme it was until I put on one of my two new glasses (good old Specsavers - buy one get one free). It was like seeing everything in high definition, everything became sharper and more focussed. I was sat at one end of this corridor in the optician's when I put them on. There was a poster at the end of the corridor. I couldn't read it at all before, but when I put my glasses on I could read every word on it with crystal clarity. They've also made books a lot easier to read. I can now read in twenty minutes what would normally take me an hour to read. Needless to say, I am totally in love with my new glasses and will wear them with pride!I Can See, Bullies, and Birthdays9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Now, onto something a bit more general and less happy-go-lucky. I get lots and lots of really lovely comments on my work, for which I am eternally grateful - every nice comment seriously makes me beam like an idiot at my laptop/iPad screen. But,

Alright... the feature is finished. And OMG I got so many comments. So it took me a while to make this feature. I said that I'll feature first 80 thumbs, but because so many of you wanted a feature I decided to post them more. So I featured first 136 thumbs. Unfortunately I couldn't feature more, cuz I get errors when I want to put more thumbs. I hope I'll be able to make this kind of articles more often. And I hope you'll enjoy this feature and give these artists more love If you want you can fav this journal, so that featured artists will get more attention which they deserve. Thank you

Are you into adoptables? Tips on selling?Hi!Are you into adoptables? Tips on selling?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Many people have been encouraging me to do more adoptables.
Thing is, I'm a bit newer at this. I only sold once more before my current one had been purchased.
I was wondering, what sells quite a bit for adoptables?
What appeals to YOU?
What layouts work best for designs?
Quick auctions or longer auctions seem to be more successful?
What is an 'average' purchase price for YOU?
What is the most YOU have spent?
I know that Resa's adopts go for a lot and looking through her gallery helps for learning on what's best for selling, etc. However, what other deviants do you recommend 'researching' and watching to get a better idea of successful adoptables? For me, when I say successful, I'm looking at around a $25/$30 purchase price on a consistent basis with auction releases.
Thank you for any advice! I want to draw adoptables when I need a break from commissions/collabs..
Also, side note, my commissions are still open (I won't close them until I hit my goal =

About Project Porkchop
The DeviantArt Experience can sometimes quickly become the quintessential example of that most frustrating problem: too much of a good thing. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to peruse the thousands of submissions and postings of artistic innovation, creativity and sheer beauty that are generated everyday.
So thank you for ProjectPorkchop!
Astralseed, an Icelandic deviant artist with a penchant for equines, including Quirlicorns (a breed of unicorns), has made our busy lives so much easier with ProjectPorkchop, a feature she started on her DeviantArt page. Project Porkchop’s fine eye for the best of the newly submitted artworks of virtually unknown artists, the incredible art tha
