Design Our Website Banner - Big PrizesAs some of you may know Eve :iconEveLivesey: and I are thinking about creating a stock photo website as a premium version of freestock.ca. We hope this new site will be in the form of a photographer's co-operative i.e. the stock providers will take the lion's share of the sales income. We would like to ask for your help in designing our website banner.Design Our Website Banner - Big Prizes2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Banner must be in the format of a horizontal panorama. Exact dimensions: 950 x 400 pixels.
As a visual aid, we have created a mockup design for the landing page and how the banner will fit inside. Feel free to click on the thumbnail below to view it at full resolution:
The purpose of this banner image is to feature our stock in a creative fashion, i.e. arranging or manipulating different photos together to form a beautiful piece of art or design. Please keep this mind fo

About sxc.hu stockGreetings!About sxc.hu stock2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
A few of you have been really worried lately about using stock from sxc.hu here because of the change in their ownership. Basically, you were concerned that their license says that you cannot redistribute their stock in whole or in part, by itself or combined with other elements, without the written approval of the original photographer.
As we all know by now, creating a photomanipulation is considered "making a derivative image." And we know we can't make premade backgrounds without permission from the photographers, as doing so is redistributing their work.
I advised a couple of you to check with the Help Desk and sxc.hu to find out the whole truth before making rash decisions about your group that could potentially make everyone panic.
Using my own personal account, I wrote to sxc.hu to find out what the story was. Here's what I said:
I was just wondering whether creating phot

The problem is that the photographer has to work with the ultra-small segments of time, most often in the area of 1/200 second, and even 1/8000. It's amazing that our brains can work and respond in such time frames.
So a good shot is almost always a chain of "saw-pressed the trigger," but "analyzed the dynamics, pulled the trigger."
With experience, you can analyze not only simple motion path but such complex processes as facial expressions

Space And Depth In PhotoManipulationsThis is a tutorial on Space And Depth and how to achieve it on a 2-D digital surface.Space And Depth In PhotoManipulations3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Space is an Element of Design, therefore, there are rules to create the illusion of 3-dimensional a 2-dimensional surface.
There are three ways to crate the illusion of space and depth:
1. By overlapping: When objects overlap, the top object become the closest object.
2. By using Atmospheric Perceptive: Objects in the nearest foreground are always the largest, clearest, and has the most detail. As objects move back into the furthest background, they become smaller, fuzzier, and have less detail.
3. By using Liner Perspective: Using the horizon line as the focal point, invisible parallel lines mov

Like learning kinetic typography, going back to school, and being able to do more than 20 situps.
I want to start making animations, but I have a habit of setting everything up, and then just dropping the project. So, all my animations remain sketches forever, basically. I want to start working up from that. Even bad/crude animation has a certain charm to it right? Idk, I just have this enormous appreciation towards animation, and that love makes me want to try things on my own.
Let's talk about animation! I've recently been getting super into animated music videos, everything from the amateur youtube MAPs to Studio Killers and Pink Floyd's "The Wall". I might try making some in the near future?? My biggest obstacle right now is that I'm not really familiar with the programs I have (Flash,AfterEffects) Who knows, I never stick to things for very long, but I've become m
Should You Become a Professional Artist?Community WeekShould You Become a Professional Artist?8 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Do you enjoy art passionately and are considering doing it as your job, but have some worries such as;
Will I enjoy it as much as a job?
Will it be hard getting a job?
Will I become a starving artist?
If you're like me, you're asking yourself those questions and are letting them give you a hard time deciding whether or not to pursue art professionally. My health teacher told me, as we digressed from our topic of smoking, that to know whether or not you want to do a job, you have to hear what it's like from someone who's already doing it. That's why I decided to do an interview with professional artists on dA to give me, and hopefully many others, answers to these burning questions and an idea of what it's like to be a professional artist.
Okay, well let's get to it then
This is quite long so if you'd like to jump to a section, here are the questions I aske

Allegory WorkshopWhat is Allegory?Allegory Workshop1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Let’s look at what allegory means. Dictionary.com tells us that it is a representation of an abstract or spiritual meaning through concrete or material forms; figurative treatment of one subject under the guise of another.
But what does this mean? Essentially, allegory is the telling of two stories in one. There is a an obvious “basic story”, but also a “deeper meaning”, a secondary story, sometimes referred to as “subtext”, or “underlying commentary”.
Symbolism is often a key feature, where a particular object, colour, person, or place can be used to represent a key element in the story. A simple example of this is in Star Wars where Luke wears light colours and Darth Vader wears dark colours to symbolise good versus evil.
Another good point to note is that allegory need not always be obvious, and the underlying commentary doesn

You're undervaluing yourself. In your country, or in your state, what's the minimum wage? Back when I worked as a minimum wage lifeguard and swim instructor, I was paid $7.50/hr, minus tax. You're undervaluing yourself.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Now, how much time do you spend on your art? Personally, I can spend anywhere from ten hours to over forty, as I did on my last manipulation of that feather monster. Let's assume though, that you aren't nearly as meticulous as I am, and you can get a piece done in four hours. Assuming you're paid what minimum wage was in Illinois four years ago, that means you'd be paid $30.
How many of you actually charge $30 or more per manipulation?
How many of you think that you deserve minimum wage?
Minimum wage is generally reserved for those who are new at their work. They have little to no experience, they generally have few bills... really, they just need to gain work experience to put on their resumé, plus make some cash to buy some fun things they may want, or perhaps start saving for college and buy some gas

My stamps can now be used anywhere you wish outside of deviantART, like in forum signatures and such, and for derivative works, both on and off dA.
But first, make sure to read each stamp's description carefully, because CC licenses have conditions that need to be respected, and if you have questions, doubts, or need clarifications, don't hesitate to ask me.
This said, go ahead and have fun spreading some stamp love! ;3

Hi Y'all! This is a request by GuardianofHappiness. The song is When You Believe by Chole Agnew. Enjoy~
Many nights we've prayed
With no proof anyone could hear
In our hearts a hopeful song we barely understood
Now we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were climbing mountains long before we knew we could
You were watching an alien movie, curtsey of the planet you and the guardians were staying on. Though you didn't have an inkling of the dialogue, you could get a pretty good feel of the plot. The hero was trying to save his love from a great villain. You couldn't really narrow it down more, but you were pretty sure a sibling betrayed him? You couldn't tell who was male or who was female, but you rolled with it anyway.
There can be miracles when you believe
Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles you can achieve
When you believe
Somehow you will
You will when you believe

your beauty glistens bathed by the moonlight,

enshrouding them with your wicked desire,
plethoric ecstasy between your arms
surrendering their souls to you...

Are there places were street photography is impossible? Are there countries easier than others, or harder than others? How is it street shooting like in exotic places, or places you never visited, places that are completely different from what you are used to? I asked a few street photographers around the world to share with us their experiences.

Japan is a fascinating country with an unusual mix of the traditional and modern. It's a magical place filled with anime, cosplayers, samurai, sushi, and all the strangest things imaginable. Wrong! Well, not really, but this is just the cliché, outer covering. When newcomers just scratch the surface of this country, this cliché is all they find. But, in reality, Japan is a place like any other: full of human beings who have normal lives with all their little dr
