-Think Outside the BoxYou are driving down the road in your car on a wild, stormy night, when you pass a bus stop and you see three people waiting for the bus:-Think Outside the Box1 year ago in Personal More Like This
1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.
Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car? Think, before you continue reading.
This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application. You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first. Or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again.
The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applic
Do not work for freeI received an email soliciting artwork for the second volume of"The Fantasy Illustration Library: Gods and Goddesses”.Do not work for free3 months ago in Personal More Like This
The jist of it was: Pick your god or goddess! Make art for us! After we get all the art, we’ll try to do a Kickstarter to produce the book and if we make enough money, we might pay the artists! Don’t pay attention to the un-affordable nature of the book’s price point ($100) because we’ll totally pay you royalties!!
This brand of “proposal” is predatory, dishonest, and frankly incompetent. (And art budget for an art book?? Who’d ever even think of that!) People who organize business models like this are assholes, no words minced. Do not take the bait. Do not get involved. Do not lessen yourself, your work, your skill and time, by participating in this kind of pig swill.
No amount of experience or exposure is worth it. You know what else gets you experience and exposure? Payin
7 Reasons Why You Should Go to Art SchoolOne of the most frequently asked questions on this site is the infamous: "Is there a point in going to Art School?" It makes my blood pressure rise every time, not so much the question itself as the fact it is asked to, and answered by, people who have no business giving advice on the matter. This article seeks to answer it once and for all, and be warned that it may come across as cutting in certain places. There's a link to my CV in my journal for those who might wonder about my own qualifications.7 Reasons Why You Should Go to Art School8 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The short answer is: Yes, there is a point. In fact, if you want to make a carreer out of art, or design, you must go to art school. You can dispense from it if one of the following applies to you:
You're a genius in your chosen field. You have an innate grasp of art/design principles and the ability to impose your ideas in the field so that you don't even need to learn the nitty-gritty. Unlikely, or you'd be famous by now.
You need a formation but you have

Texture Your World ContestTell us the story of your world in textures!Texture Your World Contest3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
We are surrounded 24 hours a day by objects that have texture, they may be smooth or bobbly, old or new, bold, bright, shiny or dull. You might see a texture every day and never notice it until you start looking. Do you sit at a desk that's textured, or pass an interesting tree on the way to work or school?
We want you, in the form of a triptych (thats 3 images forming a larger image see example here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triptych ) to tell us the story of your textured world. Each individual texture should stand on its own, both as a useful resource and as a cohesive part of the whole story. What story you tell through your texture triptych is up to you - but they must be textures that tell a story of your world in some way.
There are 3 categories for this contest, each of which you can submit to twice.

Freelancing as a Photo ManipulatorPhoto Manipulation WeekFreelancing as a Photo Manipulator6 months ago in Personal More Like This
I brought together a group of photo manipulators who have all freelanced in one way shape or form. Whether it be full time, part time, or just a few side gigs here and there! Thanks KirenBagchee,Pyrogas-Artworks and Whendell for giving me some of your time and words!
To start off, tell us a bit about yourself! How long have you been doing your art, both as a hobby and then eventually as a way to earn money? Do you have a specific genre you tend to prefer? Do you have any previous art schooling?
I have been working in digital art for approximately 10 years. I drew a lot previously, but it is thanks to the digital art that I was able to achieve my desires. Since then, it became a passion which occupies a big part of my life. I am self-taught, but I do have art diploma (although I have to admit that it did not bring me much, even absolutely nothing).
At the beginning, I did not intend for one second to sell my works. I was totally not goin

Stock and Resources: Policy ClarificationThe Stock and Resources community is an integral part of deviantART, both for having an active community of its own as well as providing high quality stock to all deviants.Stock and Resources: Policy Clarification3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
As this community has grown so much over the years, so has the amount of invalid stock and resources that have been provided by some deviants. The Stock and Resources community feels like this reflects negatively on them, the volunteers have a hard time trying to teach people about valid stock and how to use it correctly, and it gives an appearance that deviantART Staff tolerate so-called “art theft” or copyright infringement.
In this article our aim is to reinforce our policies regarding stock and stock use and clear up some misconceptions.
Stock and Resource submissions to deviantART:
What are Invalid Stock and Resources?
In short, invalid stock or resources are anything which you do not have full permission to upload. This incl

so i keep getting the same questions over and over again. how did i learn to do this.
i was self taught. by this i mean, i took the initiative and seeked out the knowledge, as no one was offering it.
i draw on average 8 to 10 hours a day, every day. by average i mean that some days its 6 and some 12
so... the argument.
i keep hearing this one. well i want to be a professional artist, but life is hard, i need to work, i don't really have the time....
let me put things in perspective here.
i used to work as a night guard on the beach. every single night from 8 pm to s6 am. after that i would go meet up with my dad who gouarded another beach to get a cup of coffee. we had a bite to eat, and then both went to haul and sell fruits and vegetables.
every evening i was drawing. when the sun set i sat under a street lamp and drew through the night.
every night. this was on occasion interrupted by a fight with some exceedingly drunk people who wouldn't

How to Win Friends and Influence Deviantart Part 1*Title stolen from a well-known and favourite book of mineHow to Win Friends and Influence Deviantart Part 13 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Part 1: Submitting with POWER
I know there are a million "how to be popular" guides on DA and a million more parody versions of them. This article isn't about becoming popular, or starting drama or racking up pageviews as fast as possible for the sake of seeing a larger number.
This article won't make your art better, or make you more a more popular personality. However, what I've noticed is that many artists are missing out on feedback and exposure that they should be getting if not for a few common mistakes. Time after time, I've read on Artist's Confessions, or just browsing through members' personal journals that their gallery doesn't recieve any traffic and they can't improve because they're not getting any feedback. They feel like their lack of popularity is a personal statement. That their art isn't worth looking at. This is entirely untrue.
Hopefully this will help you, the underexposed artist, to b
SickHe could hear it, the bloody figure walking behind him over nimble feet. Then his eyes were forced to close as cold, bony fingers covered his sight. Nails like claws buried deep into his cheek as she breathed softly, surely bloody lips drawn into that scornful smile he both loved and detested.Sick3 years ago in Personal More Like This
And then she was gone, back into the sweet torments of his mind. And then, like venom, she left him on the floor, dead and strangely calm.
I had to get this out of my head.
I know, I'm weird.
