Many things were said that Reyna didn't understand. Leo shot off, riding into the sunset of his own mechanical mind, waffling about all of the techno-babble he could produce. And Reyna just watched him, her dark gaze softening, her arms relaxing, only catching odd words as the boy continued. Occasionally he would stop to take a breath, and, Reyna noticed, look her in the eyes. His were a deep brown, like the colour of coffee or tree bark, burning with enthusiasm and desire to impress like she had never seen. He'd promptly turn a bubblegum pink colour before casting his fascinated scrutiny elsewhere and launching off again.
But that was alright to Reyna. It was a strange thing to admit – even stranger for someone of her calibre – but she felt an odd twinge of jealousy when someone else had the luxury of being regarded by him. She wanted to know that his expression of delight behind his glass orbs was prese

"I am… the master."
There was a short pause, before the boy in front of the mirror winked.
"I am completely, totally and utterly irresistible. Everybody loves a bad boy."
He combed through his clean, curly black hair.
"My presence brings all the girls to the yard. And I'm like, 'I've already got a date!'…"
He bit his lip.
"I'll have a new member on Team Leo at the end of tonight. Uh-huh."
Who was he kidding? Leo Valdez was a nervous wreck. For once in his life, he didn't smell of engine grease (although the temptation to tinker with a special washing machine he had been working on was so huge had had to get Piper to hide his tool belt), his hair was combed back neatly and he was dressed in formal coat and tie.
Tonight he was going out on his very first date ever. With Reyna.
He had been stuttering like a fool when he squeezed the words out of his mouth, and was also sweating so much th

Today was perhaps as close to a perfect day as it could get. The sun was shining happily over Camp Jupiter, spoiling the earth with its blissful rays. The birds were chirping, singing their song of glee as the fountains dotted around refreshed the grass. The forum was bustling with activity, with campers making deals on wares or sipping cool ice tea with friends.
The Via Principia was almost left abandoned. Today was the day off the praetor had allowed it. Everyone was taking advantage of the great weather, having fun and generally goofing off.
Reyna let herself smile, as she sat up on top of the hill to observe the scene. Her camp it was a beautiful place. It was nice once in a while to appreciate this beauty. They weren't under attack, for one thing, and that was enough to make anyone pleased.
Just in the distance, she could see her mother's temple. It wasn't easy being daughter of the war goddess, and even harder being praetor.

When Reyna was five, she wanted to be an emperor.
She would ask her sister to wreath a few flowers from their backyard together and pretend that they were laurels, would sit around in the highest chair in his father's study with a bowl of grapes balanced haphazardly in her chubby legs whilst devouring thick volumes of Roman history.
Her father would see her and chuckle, messing up her black hair and accidentally knocking her laurel's wreath off, and she'd stick out her tongue and tell him that emperors were not to be messed up with, but her smile would always give her away. She couldn't help it.
Reyna wanted to be just like the great Augustus, to protect her people and lead them to glory. She always tried to follow his steps, but it was hard to look dignified and regal when every day you were mocked at and made fun of by your kindergartener friends.
So Reyna would escape from the shrill laughs and the pull of her braids, climbing up into the safety of the highest slide she could fin

"Who even is Rachel? I've never met her."
That awkwardly broke the silence as four girls sat in a helicopter, which was currently soaring over the east coast of Philadelphia. They were all dressed in casual clothes well, all accept one, who was so particular with her clothing that she had decided to dress formally for the occasion.
The blonde girl looked up, still holding a plain envelope. Her startling stormy grey eyes seemed darker than usual, "Rachel is our Oracle. She is a bit well, eccentric," said Annabeth. She glanced back down at the envelope she admitted that she wasn't on the whole excited about sleepovers. It was a gathering of girls, where, for the most part, they talked about celebrities and make-up and boys. Not really her cup of tea.
Not to mention Annabeth took a peek at the formal girl sitting opposite her: praetor to the Twelth Legion and Roman through and through, Reyna, the daughter of Bellona. Sh

Annabeth had to admit, Percy did look pretty hot shirtless.
Not that she'd ever say it to his face, of course – he already had a bit of a blown-up head for his own good, let alone how embarrassing that would ever be to say out loud. She couldn't even fathom the idea of telling him.
Still, their relationship was going well so far. Camp Half-Blood was finally at peace – a rare moment in time – and so she was going to enjoy it as much as possible. The sun had spoiled the strawberry fields with blissful rays that snuggled her insides like a blanket and a mug of hot chocolate. Clouds… what clouds? Cerulean and azure lined the horizon, mirroring the shades of the heavens and scents of freshly-cut grass and spring breeze soothed her bubbling senses.
It was a good day, Annabeth thought, as she watched the sea (and her boyfriend) from a safe distance.
Then, she noticed, Percy had vanished. While sh

Annabeth bit her lip. “Percy, are you sure this is a good idea?”
“Yeah, why wouldn’t it be? You’ve got great balance.”
She could think of no reply.
“Oh, come on,” Percy said, readjusting the surfboard under his arm. “The Annabeth Chase I know can accomplish anything she sets her genius mind to.”
That strengthened her resolve. “Let’s do it.”
But surfing was no where near as easy as she’d thought. Percy kept the waves calm, letting Annabeth get used to the feel of the board beneath her, instructing her on how to get on her feet and position her body. Sure, she had great balance, like Percy said, but surfing was like trying to run on a waterbed. She managed to keep her feet under her for about ten seconds before she fell.
She surfaced to find Percy struggling to contain his laughter. His green eyes glittered with amusement. Annabeth nar

Lips had insisted that they find the nearest vineyard as soon as possible. This 'sacrificed chicken' he had to find had to be completely destroyed for the curse to be lifted – dug from whatever hole the decapitated poultry had been thrown into in the first place. This would break the metaphorical chains of his curse and leave him free to breeze across the sky again. What no-one understood was why he was banished in the first place.
Harry was the most puzzled – Greek mythology had never been his forté, so when a man in a mulberry-coloured suit clutches your leg, bawling his eyes out and claiming to be a god you wouldn't think twice about running far, far away. The demigods, however, had other ideas. This guy was a genuine deity, having control over south-westerly winds (although even that power had been stolen from him) and being able to fry mind

“You’ll what?” I cut her off with a smirk, continuing to dangle the brightly-colored sweet in front of her eyes. We were laying out in the grass just beyond the strawberry fields; Reyna wanted to make sure no one would see us.
She still wanted the relationship to be kept secret, and I had to agree with her. The last thing we needed was everyone in both camps breathing down our necks.
And, I’m pretty sure her campers wouldn’t enjoy knowing that one of their praetors was dating a boy from the other camp. The whole Greek-Roman rivalry was still hot beneath the surface. Didn’t need a spark to ignite that flame.
“I’ll make sure you can’t summon that fire for a bit with your hands.”
I laughed, rolling back onto my back and letting my arm drop. She usually kept her

As she walked the streets of the (NEW) New Rome at Camp Jupiter, she passed couples who were having a great time.
The shop windows were decorated with large pink, red, and white hearts, and were all bordered with lace. In them were clothes on sale, and all different sorts of assorted candies and baked goods.
The smell of chocolate hung in the air sweetly, and that was probably the only good thing about this wretched holiday.
None other than February 14th. Valentine’s day.
Reyna had always hated this day, and not because she didn’t have anyone to share it with. She was just completely appalled by the public physical romance.
More than once she had seen people in the streets kissing or hugging, and she found it an irritation.
What was even worse was, that a few of her Greek friends had stopped by to visit- the seven of the prophecy.
Narrowing it down even further would be specifically Jason and Piper.
Now THAT was hard, watching the two of them being togethe

Leo's words rang through her ears as she continued to throw away most of the letters she received and most of them were about a teddy bear murderer's rants about why a graecus such as Percy Jackson should not be praetor and why a power-hungry augur such as him should replace the son of Poseidon. Slowly, Reyna looked up at the repair boy, who was smiling like crazy.Lipstick - A LeoxReyna Fic3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
'That's none of your business, Valdez,' Reyna muttered loud enough for Leo to hear. She went back to reading the letters she received, and this time it was about a guy from the First Cohort who wanted to ask her out. She snapped her fingers, and Aurum instantly appeared at her side. She gave the piece of paper to the dog, who happily chewed it into bits like it was a dog bone. Reyna smiled and muttered, 'Good dog,' and gave him a pat on the head.
Leo, meanwhile, was still awaiting her answer on why she doesn't ever wear lipstick. Reyna noticed thi

Percy tried to persuade him. “It’ll be a ton of fun! You could use a little break.”
“I just… I don’t know.” He stopped tinkering and the workshop became quiet. Leo’s voice portrayed enough reserve that Percy knew he was more subdued when he was at this camp, as opposed to Camp Half-Blood.
“It’s okay, buddy.” Percy took on a softer tone. “But it’s a holiday, so just consider coming out and having a good time with us. The Romans are fine, and I’m sure they’ll love you, considering all the crazy weapons you come up with.” He smiled, hoping to ease Leo’s nerves.
“Thanks, Percy.” Leo said. “I’ll think about it.”

Leo was devastated. Today was his and Reyna's anniversary, and he only remembered it because Piper had said so. Reyna, being the nice and orderly girl that she was, probably had the gift. Heck, she probably would have prepared the nice gift a month ago. It would've almost consisted of fireworks even better that the Fourth of July fireworks in Camp Half-Blood, pizza, and Octavian with a Pillow Pet prophesying that they would live a happy life together. (Which they will!) Yeah, that would be the perfect anniversary.

That’s when she heard it. That scream. His scream. It sent shivers down his spine. What in the name of Zeus had happened to him? Annabeth couldn’t stand it. She’d never heard a sound like this from him. Percy never would have submitted like this unless…unless he was in true pain.

Despite everything, she started to run back towards the forges. She couldn’t leave him alone. They would face this together. Percy had never left Annabeth, no matter how hopeless the situation had been. He had saved her from Prometheus, Atlas, Luke…the list was almost endless. It was time to even out the score.

Funny, Annabeth thought, as she stood as a shadow over his bed, that he would be sleeping soundly while sweet dreams remained stubbornly out of her reach.
She slipped off her cap and felt the familiar brush of her hair as it tumbled down her back. Its magic had returned since the Second Giant War had come to a closing. Athena had even apologized to her face for the mishap—a stiff, barely intelligible mutter, accompanied by an awkward handshake—but an apology all the same. Annabeth watched the faded white New York Yankees symbol brighten as she set it on Percy’s bedside table and it entered the circle of light cast from the lamp situated on its top. A sad smile pulled at her lips. That poor cap had been through a lot; it had traveled across the country--twice--sailed over the Sea of Monsters, and been her trusty companion in the Battle of Manhattan. There was only one place she had been where the hat had not been with her. One place it would never se

It was in the middle of winter in Camp Jupiter, three weeks from Christmas. Snow covered the ground, and the Roman demigods (and the Greek ones, too, as they were visiting Camp Jupiter at this time of the year) were simply hanging out in New Rome, as it was in the weekends. They were either making snowmen, snowboarding, or any other activity that involved snow. Everyone except for Octavian and Leo.
As for Octavian, the teddy bear murderer I meant augur definitely despised the snow. He hated being in the cold weather, and Reyna had to smirk when she ordered him to 'have fun' in the snow. He was in one of Bombilo's coffee shops (you know, Bombilo the three-headed coffee merchant), drinking espresso and eating muffins, along with the others who were taking breaks from the snow.
But Leo was eating a snowcone with cherry syrup. Reyna mentally laughed. But, if she could, she would laugh out loud. But then, the demigods wo

Leo was in so much trouble. He and Reyna were supposed to be on a double date with Frank and Hazel, and he’d totally forgotten until roughly three hours ago, and even the Argo II had trouble getting him all the way to Camp Jupiter that fast.
He was hovering above the Little Tiber and was so desperate to get there in time, he jumped.
Stupid idea, stupid idea, STUPID IDEA! That was the phrase that kept running through Leo’s head in free fall. He lit up his whole body Human-Torch style and while he didn’t fly, as Jason had once speculated; his fall did slow down enough to afford him a relatively soft landing in the river.
Climbing out of the river Leo was glad he’d refined his fire starting skills to the point that he could now just make his skin really warm, which dried him and his clothes in time to arrive at the café only five minute

The morning was bright and sunny, beating down harshly on the Roman camp. Although it was early, the clatter of swordplay and whizz of arrows could be heard, as well as the bustling of Demigods, already tackling the day with admirable vigor. The only Greek who appeared to be awake was Leo- the rest of his friends were enjoying a rare morning off in the comfort of their visitor’s dorms. Not being much of a sleeper-inner, Leo had decided to get a jump start on his new life’s mission- make Reyna smile/laugh/happy as much as humanly possible. Not long after the war had been won, Leo had found a kindred spirit in the Roman Praetor, and the two had since formed a seemingly unlikely friendship, unbeknownst to everyone else (although Piper and Jason had their suspicions).

Groaning, Leo Valdez (yes, the Leo Valdez) sat up and decided whether to sleep again. He deserved sleep. He was insanely tired. Not only did he have to fly the Argo II back to Camp Half-Blood because the other Hephaestus kids wanted to have more space to store their giant robots, but he had a run-in with a pack of hellhounds who seemed keen to kill him. And no, offering them breath mints did not help.
And where were his teammates at that time, you ask? Probably shoving their tongues in each other's throats, that's where! The mental image made Leo shudder. He definitely did not want that stuck in his mind. It was already bad enough that Reyna wasn't here. I mean, Leo could understand. He really didn't want Octavian to be praetor for a week. I mean, he barely knew the Romans, but he was sure that nobody wanted that to happen.
He argued with Reyna that Jason tagged along with Piper and that Percy was bubbling with excitement to see Camp Half-Blood again, but she

The daughter of Bellona was in a heated argument with Larry from the Third Cohort. "I don't have time for this, Larry." she set her focus on the stack of papers on her desk and sighed. "Look, there really isn't a point in covering the First Cohort in silly string just because they destroyed you in the war games. You'd have to wait until April Fool's Day, when you can practically do anything, and I won't care."
