Free Commission Giveaway!
Every year I try to do some sort of commission event for my birthday in June. The past few years it has just been a flat discount and it has gone pretty well. This year, I have decided to do something a little different and offer a giveaway instead!
The giveaway will be taking place on DeviantArt.com and Tumblr.com. The prize pool will be shared between both websites. You may enter on one account through each website, however you will only be eligible to win once. Winners will be chosen through a random generator.
Giveaway ends June 10th, 2014 at 11:59pm CST, Winners will be announced by June 14th, 2014
A probable solution to commission chargebacks.Artists who create commissions know one caveat with accepting PayPal: their Seller Protection doesn't cover services, so they can and will be SOL if the buyer decides to dispute the transaction. While Buyer Protection doesn't cover services either, PayPal is notorious for ruling in the favor of the buyer, so the seller needs to look into other ways of protecting themselves.A probable solution to commission chargebacks.4 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Which leads to our discussion here, of how we can leverage Seller Protection to ensure scamming buyers can't run off with the money after the service is completed -- by converting your commission service into a tangible product.
Seller Protection covers tangible products that can be shipped to the buyer, and by making a commission, you can take advantage of this by printing out your commission and mailing it to them. Right there, you have a tangible, physical item that is mailed to the buyer, and thus is covered by Seller Protection.
Adjust your commission information and terms of service to indicate the buyer is pu

Have you ever wondered who the most popular characters are at DeviantART?
I liked danlev's recent post on Trending deviantART Search Terms in October. It got me thinking about popular characters on DeviantART in terms of deviation count. I'm going to need some help with this research project.
Help Wanted, Reward Offered
Search for a character and submit the number of deviations found. You can post a screenshot or just put the number in a comment. Find a Top-10 character and get 100 points. Find a Top-50 character and get 10 points. Each person that faves this journal will get 1 point. If multiple people submit the same character, the first person gets the points.

Hard Confessions(If this is TL;DR, please scroll down to read the bolded part, for this is very important to me.)Hard Confessions2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Most of you know me as a Christian artist with very conservative Christian ideals. I made a confession of faith when I was seven years old, and have tried to be a "good Christian" ever since. I was, and am, very passionate about presenting the Bible message in a contemporary way, but not in a way that patronizes or tricks its audience, but intrigues. I thought it was my way of "doing a favor" for Jesus.
Then I worked this summer as a missionary intern.
This summer wasn't so much an epiphany for me as it was putting a magnifying glass over questions and problems I already sort of knew were there.
I knew I had issues with forgiveness. I knew that I thought I was too bad, too broken, to be fixed unless I fixed myself. And I knew I was wrong.
I knew that the methods of repentance I'd believed in in the past only left me more broken and depressed.
I knew that I had an addiction. And that addict

Calliope clapped her gray hands and looked at her work, her immature brother Caliborn was completely change from his usual appearance, to a troll! Wow, isn't amazing what cosplay can do? Caliborn pouted angrily, "can I fucking go now you fucking bitch?" Calliope giggled "First!" she took out a mirror, "what do you think about my work?". Caliborn growled and snatched mirror from her and glared at his reflection, he had to say, he didn't look completely terrible...Of course he'd never admit it. He had a jet black wig, weird troll horns similar to his sisters but straighter, troll-eye contacts, gray face paint, and he still wore his normal red tie, black shirt, and his green overalls. He did actual looked like a troll, he still thought this was fucking stupid tho. "well?" calliope
Character Development Prompts Note: A "character development prompt" is a little bit that helps you to know your character better. If you have a character in your head, you use these as practice for writing about their personality.Character Development Prompts4 years ago in Personal More Like This
General Character Development Prompts
1. One of the best ways to write about a character is to have a handy reference sheet on them out. Fill this out so if you ever forget about something or are in a jam, you can refer to this:
2. Write about your character's ideal perfect lover. Is he or she their exact opposite? Are they just your character's best friend on a more romantic point of view? Or are they even of the same gender? Get thinking!
3. Think about how your character may react differently if they lives in a place like New York City as oppose to a place like London. Use places that you have been to because the best reference in fictional

Reiji Sakamaki x Reader Lemon ~Bite Me.~I just joined the Sakamaki residence but I am not human. Therefore I am a vampire, my name is _____. I sighed as I went through the dark hallways as outside the lightening flashed. I looked out the beautifully decorated window and closed my eyes. I heard the background noises of the clock and I smiled wide showing my sharp fangs.Reiji Sakamaki x Reader Lemon ~Bite Me.~6 months ago in Personal More Like This
"_____, what are you doing out at this time" I turned to see Reiji asked me that question. I smirked wider, I wanted this man. His eyes begged for something but I couldn't put my finger on it right now. I wanted to take his beautiful white and purple locks in my hands and pull them out of his head. I sighed and he just standed there is his 'butler' outfit. He was a strange man, but I loved it. I just felt like telling him to be still because my cold heart is thumping hard, not like I have one...
"Nothing, what would e your concern" I spoke and closed my eyes smiling at the handsome man right in front of me. He chuckled and I heard his book drop.
Advice and Common Cliches for Comic CreatorsAfter several years of being on this site, I've noticed several troubling trends with the comic and literature creators on here. The points brought up here are mostly comic related, but are applicable to written works as well. Contains mild profanity.Advice and Common Cliches for Comic Creators2 weeks ago in Art Features More Like This
For beginners, no art program or drawing tablet is automatically going to make you a better artist. Think of them as tools, rather than tickets. Like learning any skill, it takes patience, persistence and dedication through any medium. Do not be discouraged by another artist's skill or age.Don't worry about your comic's artwork unless you are actually trying to sell your work. I've seen works where the creator was obviously artistically talented, but the story was terrible. The story should come first.Do not go for extreme detail if you cannot handle it. In the worst case scenario, you'd be stressing yourself out and will never be able to finish the comic.
Don't constantly redraw older pages of your comic.
5 Ways to Avoid Being DiminishedThere's a discussion brewing in comics about artists being more diminished as of late--that readers, reviewers, and publishers are focusing too much on writers rather than the artists who draw the book. I agree it's happening, but I'm not sure it's worth sounding an alarm over. I never felt diminished, but maybe I'm part of the exception. Maybe it's because I'm an artist and a writer.5 Ways to Avoid Being Diminished5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Either way, I do have a few thoughts on what artists can do to pull themselves out from under the rug.
1. DON'T DRAW LIKE A COG.
If you conform to a "house style", then you're at higher risk of being treated like an interchangeable cog in the comics machine. Yes, you're more likely to get consistent work, but you won't stand out as much. Therefor you'll be sought after less by big name writers, you're less likely to make a lasting impression on reviewers and readers, and you'll have a harder time getting raises (12 others draw like you and for less money).
I also suggests inking yourself if it helps. Penc

Good times. Good times.
See you guys again at Fanime! ♥
Frey, Alex, and Vance cosplayed by Shotalicious, Sugarlat, Liarino. I'm cameoing as rabbit ear fingers.
And then I drew them XD
Jen and Cocoa by Haruu-chan and LeekFish
ART MAJORS FTW
Robin and Toby copsplayed by usagi2ranpha and Little-islander
Alex has a plastic gun. Toby is going ARAFDHAJGJ. Robin is confused. Noting makes sense and all is right with the world.
The level of maturity is overwhelming.
They wanted to cosplay outerwear and underwear so they even made Vance and Frey's panties. Not only that, they also made extra ones for me to wear XD
Last but not least, amazing cosplay and photography by KashinoRei and Andy-K. They are in Germany so I wasn't able to meet them at Sakura-con, but hopefully I'll be able to visit a European con in the future

It's not just the artwork that tells you something about it's creator - on the internet, the way you present it is at least equally as important. Your painting can be a masterpiece, hanged in a local gallery, but as long as you post a blurry, badly cropped picture named "1564873" along with "..." in an artist's description, nobody will ever bother visiting your gallery. Creating a nice, representative profile page and setting a certain visual quality standard takes extra time and effort, but if you really care for your work (even if it's just a hobby), you should treat it with some respect.
I've already written a related article called The power of context that tried to explain how to place your work in a context in order to better connect with your audience, this one is focused
