So we began, as was the world, from air,
So too, in the beginning, was the word.
We met as strangers, as in some ancient idyll,
Caught among an unexpected course:
Lives lighted with those soft, celestial rays
Our eyes, our lips, our tongues a hymn of praise.
And what cannot be thought enough in praise,
Those words oft-said, but spoken with an air
With which the mountains crumble; angels raise
Their voices from the veil, or Holy Word
Echoes from its pages, lauds its course
Unstable though it be, but seldom idle.
Then falling from your grace, my love, my idol
To whom this lonely soul kneels down and prays,
My soul, my heart for which the vessels course:
Vanish; water droplets to the air
Glimmering to the sky without a word
Forever lost among Apollos rays.
Thus night becomes my temple, mine to raise
A sanctuary, my self-serving idyll
Kept hidden from the sun, and every word
Locked safe inside my vault, for who can praise
Or worship great enough to fill the air,
To take the sp

Goh had come too Samezuka Academy to check on some new swimmers. Most everyone was gone by this point, only a few remained and they were on the other end of the pool.
He had wanted to ask her out of a date for a while, but lacked the courage to do so. That and Matsouka was always nearby. Despite his tough guy attitude, he seemed like a very overprotective brother. And yet Goh could stand up to him on her own. Seijuurou was a bit jealous of their relationship.
But finally they where alone (well, as alone as they could get). Rin was off on a run and now seemed like the perfect time.
"I told you, please don't call me that" Goh made a pouty, mock angry face.
"Sorry. I keep forgetting." Seijuurou rubbed the back of his neck, blushing slightly.
'Come on man, you can do it! Just ask her! What ya got to loose?'
"I ah... wanted to ask you something..."
"I... well... w-would you... you..."

Imagine learning that there are over a billion people in the world, one sixth of humanity, who follow a religion that you never really studied in school. This little known religion is called Islam. Perhaps you’ve heard the name before or developed some opinions about it based on what you’ve seen in the news. However, if you’re like most people, you might not know a great deal about Islam. Well, you’ve taken the first step toward understanding more about this mysterious way of life, and you may find yourself pleasantly surprised to learn what it really teaches.
Islam shares many of the same characteristics that are familiar to followers of Judaism and Christianity. In fact, Islam considers itself a related ideology that fits into a tight chronology with these two other religions. As the population of Muslims rises in many Western countries, and as many people discover the impact of Islamic civilization on Western thought, sc
The Three People to See Sherlock's HeartThe Three People to See Sherlock's Heart3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Sherlock Holmes had a heart. A strong, athletically trained (from all that running, climbing, and jumping of course) moderately healthy considering the abuse it had had to take, heart. After all, he was still young.
Sherlock Holmes' heart beat at fifty beats per minute when at rest, and upwards to near two hundred when he was running really hard. These were the facts. He'd never had a murmur or a skipped beat in his life- Sherlock's heart was as practical to his uses and as mechanical as the rest of him.
Or so he thought.
The first one to notice that Sherlock Holmes possessed a much more tender heart than anyone else ever thought was Mrs. Hudson. Sure, Mycroft in his own way had noticed a kind of vulnerable and soft spot near his brother's impenetrable center, but he possessed the same rational that Sherlock did and paid little attention. Mrs. Hudson on the other hand saw something in this callous young detective, the way his silvery eyes sparked with excitement when he would talk of h

Though I may cry and though I may weep;
I know you may be far but in my heart I shall keep.
Thoughts of you have made my days bright;
I wish to kiss your lips and hold you tight.
I know, at times, I can be hard to understand;
With all of the wonderful things I know is at hand..
Why should I let tears fall from my face?
Why not a smile to wear in their place?
Because I need you here and in my arms;
Because I know in your love, I shall never no harm.
Because as I lie in bed these countless nights;
I wish and I pray that I could take flight.
Over the miles that come between;
Over the fields and across every stream.
That I could rest soundly within your space;
Gaze into your eyes and caress your face.
Whisper my love into your ear;
Tell you all of the words I've wanted you to hear.
But then I awake, alone in my bed;
Thoughts, all of you, running through my head.
I know that someday my dreams will come true;
I wish and I pray that "someday" will be soon.
You are my one and only, lo

Im sitting here on the navy blue linen sheets of my brothers bed, holding one of his head pillows with me while starring at the grandfather clock perched upon a half-empty book shelf. Seimei told me that hed be arriving at around 6:00, but its already past 7:15. Im really worried. For the past hour and a half, Ive been calling his cell phone and sending text messages but hes neither answered nor replied. Im pretty sure I remember him telling me that he would keep his phone on at all times. If I needed to tell him something important, he promised to respond as soon as possible. Not that I doubt his guarantee, but Im beginning to wonder if he remembered to charge it right before leaving. Ive tried contacting my friends, but they told they hadnt seen him. Yuiko said that she thought she saw Seimei pass by near her house with Soubi. But other than that she didnt know

An object starts to vibrate loudly on the table and after a few seconds, it stops.
Who could possibly send me a text message? Surprised I stand up and walk to my middle-aged Nokia. I open the message and my mouth falls open of astonishment of what I just read.
"Hey. Could we talk? Greetings, Evan." it says. How did he get my number for God's sake?
I think for a moment. Should I answer it? Can it do any harm if I do? He only wants to talk and I know that most problems can be solved with talking, but I barely know him! In that case I don't owe him a conversation. But Siope asked me if I could give him a chance. But she didn't even know what happened Friday!
I sigh and open a new text message. "Yes, sure, but how did you get my number?" I write quickly. Almost immediately an answer returns. "Long story. At two o'clock at the lake?"
The lake. I think he means the same spot as where I met him. "Okay. See you then." I text back.
Two o'clock, that's in one hour. Ah well, it's Sunda

The grill sizzled, vapors clinging to her nostrils with the numbing scent of beef. The oils bubbled as they toiled away at the potato slices, crisping them. Hollow eyes stared down, half alive at the food, lanky arms operating like machinery, flipping meat and shaking off french fries. Behind her, she overheard a student talking with her boss.
"Dude. June. Whoever that new guy is, you gotta teach him how to make a burger, man. Look at this crap."
"Mmmm..." June hummed with that impatience she carried when dealing with a customer she was irritated with. "Aaaand what am I lookin' at?"
"It's burnt, man," insisted the customer, jerking his head in Jane's direction as she turned to face

Nature tries to rid itself

On every available inch of her skin
It fights on, unrelenting

Water, earth, wind, and fire
The parasites weather all assaults
There are simply too many
Nature has Time on her side
The long war essentially a siege
Only once the wretched beasts are gone

I'm not one to be left breathless at the sight of a pair of feathered white wings. If I was, I would never manage to look at the sky, for fear of suffocating while catching the glimpse of a seagull.
I am not one to be awed at yellow hair. If I was, I would have dyed mine years ago. No, blond hair is nothing special, just a particular reflection of white light. Nothing special. Even the faulty humans are able to claim what angels have.
A large white dress with lots of frills and bows sounds overdone to me. If you can go to a wedding and comment on the brides dress as being hideous, how can you then look at an angels dress with longing? And think, for a moment, of practicality. Surely the weight of so much material would have an effect on those "magnificent" wings and thats putting aside the affects of the weather and seasons.
Who said an angel was pure?
They seem to have conveniently forgotten those that fell. A prime example? Well, that would have to be

"But...-" Aang paused for a moment, letting his pen drop onto his notebook's page. He folded his hands together in front of his lips, elbows propped on the table, and stared intently at his red-headed friend. "Dropping out? Are you...sure that's a good idea?"
Jane, eyes glued to her biology textbook, referenced a page and scribbled an answer on a worksheet.
"Just thinkin' maybe I don't belong here anymore..." Jane mumbled out, not looking up from her work. Aang studied her stoic face, putting the together some details he hadn't added up until just now. Jane looked healthy, well-rested, her hair was clean and brushed. She was wearing jeans and a plain white T-shirt. No boots, no belt, no h
Work of art.Don't wince at my scars, instead use them to find where I am broken, and put your body against the cracks.Work of art.1 year ago in Free Verse More Like This
Don't let me fall out of myself again, the parts might fit together, but the breaks are never clean.
Sometimes I feel like glass in the middle of a war zone, just the sound of goodbye may destroy me.
I've picked up the pieces before, cut myself with shards of who I was, carefully pasted them together with who I am, hoping no one would notice.
The trouble is the masking tape I used, doesn't seem to mask anymore.
The trouble is I leave tiny bits of myself behind me, just so I can be found.
The trouble is my heart is made of clay and it might just break with one more fall.
Maybe that's the wonder of me, even once i've broken…I can break again.
