Why It Sucks To Be a Cosplayer on HalloweenArt By :iconraggedy-annedroid:Why It Sucks To Be a Cosplayer on Halloween3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So it is Halloween. I am a cosplayer. Here it is, the greatest of all dress up holidays! And I am always disappointed. Here are the top 5 reasons it sucks to be a cosplayer at Halloween.
1) Friends (including friends of friends) come out of nowhere to ask for costumes. They just ask for a little help. On their giant full body armor masterpiece. The week before Halloween. Because you know, you make costumes and it's easy for you. And the price? Well, it's "for a friend" price. Which is always "free" or "I'll pay you $20 never" which boils down to "get you a shot of Jack sometime." Sadface.
2) Costumes in my closet everywhere, but none for Halloween. Yes, I have over 60 costumes. No, none of them will ever be recognized at a Halloween party. One year I dressed as Pris from Blade Runner out on the town, which I thought would b
Some thoughts on New Doctor's Eve...Tomorrow (Sunday) the world's going to find out who the next Doctor will be. And with that, a spirited debate that's been going on in fandom will probably wind down for a while:Some thoughts on New Doctor's Eve...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Should we allow for the possibility that the next Doctor could be a woman?"
At this point, almost every aspect of that question has been talked to death elsewhere (including other parts of my own DA page), and I don't want to retread it here (too much). But here's one of the most interesting (and increasingly common) arguments for why it shouldn't happen, and I want to focus on it for a few minutes. I'll quote it the way it was said by one commentator here:
"If you make him a woman you're taking away an amazing role model for young boys. There have always been great female role models in the form of the companions, but the doctor is one of the only role models boys have who uses his wits and heart to get through a situation, not his fists."
I've seen that st

From Eww to Ohh!!Going from raw to a finished image can take several hours. From Eww to Ohh!!2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Several hours of trial and error.
Several hours of banging my head on the keyboard.
Several hours of WTF decisions that you go back to later and redo from scratch.
Below is an example of a raw image versus finished image and the steps I took to get there.
Raw Versus Finished
Raw Image (Or what I call Ewww)
I don't know why it is, but my raws always seem to be too dark.
Step 1: Color Correct and Initial Retouching in Adobe Camera Raw
> Brought up the shadows until they show detail on her black clothes.
> Lightened Face
> Highlight the Lightsabre
> Color correct to warmer tone. (I think this becomes irrelevant later though cause I shift color tones again in Photoshop)
Step 2: Face and Background Retouching

Do you know why Nickelodeon cancels shows show often or just stops airing them? Do you know why the ratings for all of their shows have been so abysmal lately?
No, it's not because their current shows are "horrible" (they're really not that bad, actually). The real problem can be broken up into two halves...
The first half of the problem is us.
At some point in the past few years, most people developed an anti-Nickelodeon mentality and stopped watching the network. This mostly due to the company's poor business decisions and their recent shows apparently not tickling most people's fancy. The business part I can't defend, but the shows from recent years have not been as bad as people say. There's truly a lot of effort put into each one, but because of past mistakes, people have become too stubborn to give them anymore chances. Because
Pooh's Adventures Series: Not Quite a RantI don't know how many of you people have heard of the Pooh's Adventures series on YouTube, but I figured I ought to throw my two cents in while it's fresh on my mind. I'm not talking about the cartoon series that ran on Disney Channel (The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh), but this does involve it. What Pooh's Adventures is, typically, is the Pooh cast going on an adventure through another movie, like the Great Mouse Detective, An American Tail, the Pokemon movies, etc. I used to think this concept was a neat little idea, but now that I've been dabbling in making videos myself, I find it less than appealing to me these days. You could call it a 'crossover' series, since it has Pooh and friends 'interacting' with the surroundings, providing assistance to the characters and dialogue, but from a more critical viewpoint, I just can't find myself liking it.Pooh's Adventures Series: Not Quite a Rant2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The 'dialogue' from Pooh and friends, or from characters when it's not in the original script, involves muted clips with subtitles. W

this craphole of a fandom here, it is the true definition of CROSSOVER HELL. it is the true definition of a fandom that takes it WAY to far with crossovers, sure bronies might crossover and do crap but it ISNT as bad as this. anyways if you dont know what this meme is about, let me just define it using a quote from this deviant here:
"For those who don't know, POOH'S ADVENTURES is a series of Youtube videos that consist of taking any Disney film or any family-friendly film from the past 20 years and inserting not only characters from the beloved Disney franchise WINNIE THE POOH but practically any cartoon character or superhero of the video editor's choosing. This may sound awesome at first, but it's only 5 minute clips of a Pooh cartoon or any cartoon for that matter that's spliced in with the movie clips, and we're led to believe that Pooh is actually talking to a character from that movie."

TIP OF THE DAY: SIGNING YOUR WORKArt Tip of the Day -- Signing Your Work:TIP OF THE DAY: SIGNING YOUR WORK1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Is there a right or wrong way to sign your work? No - however, there are ways that are more professional, and ways that are less.
What you want is to use your signature in order for people to be able to see your credit - NOT as a way to copyright or claim ownership of your work. If you are already receiving printed credit for your work, for example, as a byline for a magazine article, then it's unnecessary. Some publishers will want it off the art, because it interferes with the image. So never put a signature in a place where it overlaps the art and cannot be removed.
If you do want your signature on your work, this is NOT the same signature which you sign your financial documents with. That would be a mistake, from a Identity theft standpoint. Also, your signature should reflect your brand. it's part of your look. Most of all, however, it needs to be small, but completely legible, and in an unobtrusive part of the drawing - but not too f

mineGrowing up was a bit of a depressing story in my case. We moved a lot, far too much for a kid that needed education. So in the end I spent quite a few years in the care of people who cared little.mine7 months ago in Personal More Like This
I learned a few things there that still haunt me. Like that there are no personal belongings. Anything physical, anything that had some kind of form you can grasp, can be taken away. And will be taken away. All it needed was a neighbor kid who pointed at one of my toys, telling my aunt it's theirs. And then it was theirs.
So, I learned early not to cling to materialistic possessions.
Years after having been able to leave that place, I still think the same way. Some patterns can't be deleted once they are not needed anymore. There are not many things in my home I couldn't replace easily. Some items would be missed more, some less. But all can be replaced without getting more of a reaction out of me but a "eh, happens."
Just not my ideas. The world in my head is mine and mine alone.

I've been talking for years about shaving my head to cosplay Aang. He's my favourite character in The Last Airbender, and although I've cosplayed him before that was a while ago (aka I'm not satisfied with that costume XD). To kick my ass into gear to do this, I've decided to shave my head for cancer research. Personal LibraryQuite a few times I've been asked what books I like and could I suggest any good reads. Well, here is a journal with some of my top authors and books for you to consider.Personal Library3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I will start by saying that my two favourite genres are historical and gothic horror. I do deleve into fantasy, but generally I will only read a fantasy novel if it's not set in modern times.
I also tend towards first person and will not read a book if the protagonist is female. So brace yourselves!
SALAMANDER by Thomas Wharton.
This is my favourite book and for many good reasons. It is set in an alternative Victorian era, and follows the life of a book maker called Nicolas as he travels around the world trying to make an infinite book. (A book with no end and no start).
The narrative is overly colourful and the author takes full advantage of the readers senses, especially that of smell and sight. The short narratives play like a cinematic reel in the mind.
Overall, it's a book about books which contains some very hea

Depression is a drag. Everyone who has it experiences it differently, but we all agree that it sucks.
Sometimes, however, I wonder if people who don’t have it understand – like really truly understand – just how overwhelmingly painful it is.
For example, while it seems that people most commonly use the term to express fleeting feelings of sadness or disappointment, depression is actually a chronic physical illness with symptoms that are mostly invisible.
And although we’ve come a long way in our ability to treat it, we still don’t really know what causes it or why treatments work and don’t work.
It’s an exasperating disease to live with because bein

Apparently he had a parody of The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo on his account for a whole year before it was removed by user Egeda Pirateria. Egeda Pirateria is not the rights holder of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but they were able to claim it anyway.
You've heard all of this stuff before.
What do I think about this? Well, the guy is legally representing himself... He's definitely got a good case, although it would probably help if he brought up things like full movies that the content ID system doesn't take down, the ability of companies to claim monetization even after a strike was thoroughly debunked. I really don't know if this is going to go anywhere. Those are big companies and they have lawyers...
The Avengers - ReviewHonestly I don't have much to say other than it's just really awesome. You don't need to have seen Captain America, Iron Man 1 and 2, The Hulk, or Thor to understand what's going on, but it most certainly does help. The Avengers - Review3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The Avengers is probably one of the most epic movies I have seen since the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Harry Potter. It's up there. It's not perfect, and some moments seem to drag on a bit (mostly around the middle), but every key moment is accentuated properly, every line delivered in such a way that you don't miss out on what's going on, every action scene composed in a way you aren't confused, and overall the whole thing is just a joy to watch.
What's really fun about this movie is that they don't hold back. Ever. Everything you want to see in a movie about the Avengers is pretty much up on this screen. You wanna see Thor and Iron Man duke it out? You got it! You wanna see an army of aliens attacking a city? Got it. You wanna see Tony Stark deliver hilarious banter aga

This is not necessary, per se, but if you have in mind to do more than just one or two sheets of adoptables, it might be a good idea to start a new account. This way you won't spam your watchers' inbox, if they're not interested in adoptables, and you can organize your gallery in a better way.
Be a member of Adoptables Groups
dA is a big community and the sheer amount of new deviations every day makes it hard for your art to be seen. Considering that you just made a new account for your adoptables, you have basically no watchers whatsoever so how can you get the exposure you need to sell your characters? The answer is join Adoptables Groups. By doing this you can do two things, the first is submit your adoptables to their gallery and advertise them, the second is observing the trends, what people like to draw and buy more.
Noah's Ark - short reviewOut of curiosity, I recently watched the 2007 version of NOAH'S ARK, an animated movie from Argentina. The film was originally titled EL ARCA ("The Ark" in English, duh), and received an English dub that same year. However, Shout! So we all know the story about Noah - Noah is asked by God (who's potrayed as a fat black man, for some reason) to build an ark for his family and for two of every animal in the world, for a flood is approaching. A flood that will wipe away every single person on the planet, and will start life anew. So Noah and his family work hard on this boat, and....
Yeah, you don't wanna hear about this, right? Who cares about NOAH in the movie NOAH'S ARK? Clearly the focus should be on the animals right? Yeah...the movie barely even focuses on Noah and his family. It's about the ani

Children are innocent. Don't subject them to your transphobia or hatred. Let the adults shoulder that if you really have to throw your faeces at someone.
All I can think of is how hurt these poor little girl scouts must be. They already deal with enough, being born in the wrong body. Now you're telling them that they're bad people for something that they can't help? I'll tell you what. I wouldn't feel safe sending my daughter into a girl scout troop with a bunch of hateful Bible thumpers. I'd much rather send my daughter in with a troop that offers positive messages of un-conditional love and acceptance for mankind.
Keep in mind that the same group is trying to boycott the Girl Scouts
