Setting up Shots - Storytelling ResourceThis will be good for anyone who wants to get across clear story information in storyboarding and film and can probably be applied to comics. Granted there are huge differences with the graphic quality of comics, but this resource will explain thirds, if you don't already know of them, and how to use them. This is a condensed version of information that you can talk about for days and days and there are whole books on this. It's a profession, and I'm not claiming to know everything. I'm just imparting some basics in what I know.Setting up Shots - Storytelling Resource3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Disclaimer: These shots are all taken from Kung Fu Panda 2, which I sadly do not own (I'm not intending them for any malicious or commercial use, purely educational and personal).
I'm going to take some screens from a sequence in Kung Fu Panda 2 and break them down. It all might seem like common sense, but for those of you who don't know why filmmakers make the decisions they do for a shot, here's an explanation.
Every camera shot has a purpose, none is wasted.
[Early] Artist Feature - June 2013Hi everyone. I'm going to put together the June Artist Feature quite early this month.[Early] Artist Feature - June 20131 year ago in Personal More Like This
This is because I have a lot of personal and family happenings going on in June and
won't be able to utilize my computer that much. Don't worry, I'll still be around, I just
won't have as much time during the month of June to commit to my galleries, blogs
and my jewelry and print shop. So, please enjoy this feature everyone. Go show the
featured artists some love, appreciation and admiration And if you missed out on
last month's feature (May 2013), you can check it out, here: http://monsterbrand.deviantart.com/journal/Artist-Feature-May-2013-366849309

Call for Fanart! The Murder ComplexHi Divergent-Fans!Call for Fanart! The Murder Complex1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I bring you a message from Lindsay Cummings, author of the upcoming novel The Murder Complex, which will be published by Harpercollins (publisher of Divergent) and Greenwillow next year!
Lindsay is looking for fan artworks of her characters from The Murder Complex, to show to her agent and display on the future fanart page of her website! Here's what the author has to say about her novel and its protagonists:
"The book totally has the feel of Divergent and The Hunger Games.
Meadow Woodson is a 15 year old girl who has long, curly silverish hair and grey eyes. She carries a dagger, lives on a houseboat in the sea, and has a black barcode tattoo on her forehead. She also has a "fearless" tatoo on her forearm. She's usually covered in cuts and bruises, and she has little knife scars all over her arms.

A Pocket Artist's Guide on How To Draw A common struggle an artist stumbles upon on his way to a triumphant drawing style is when he is just beginning to draw. That is something I, a 14-year old writer learned after a year of practicing illustration, a field that is quite new for someone who uses a pen to write prose, poems, and stories, and not to draw.A Pocket Artist's Guide on How To Draw1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Probably like some of you here, I started drawing after seeing characters on the television and tried to imitate them. At first, I found any drawing I made so wonderful, brilliant, great, etcetera, etcetera… [Oh well..] until a passerby badmouthed my works. At first it was hard to believe that my highly treasured works were actually that bad.
But when I looked again on my drawings, I realized that there is a lot more I can do to make things better than they were. Yet my interpretation of getting better was quite different. I bought lots of books on anatomy, perspectiv

So I love pandas, and I made an OC a while ago to show support, art-wise, for the 'save-the-pandas' campaigns and you have to draw her, in some way, so that people are aware of the fact that animals as adorable and sweet as pandas are going extinct.

Okay, let's get this ball rollin'!
I've been meaning to set up this contest for a while now, and now that I have a sufficient number of prizes I thought it'd be nice to get it all started. Here are the details:
Draw my OC Smeargle Kid with a brand new design! All contest entries can be viewed here http://crlyxx.deviantart.com/favourites/49265729
A bit about Smeargle Kid: He doesn't yet have a name, I'm working on it, lol. Anyway, he's about 11-years-old. He's fairly innocent and he loves to paint (kind of self-explanatory). He has a tail that excretes a green, paint-like fluid, just like the pokemon Smeargle. Because of this, green has always been his favorite color. That's about all that I have about him, haha.
1) He needs to keep his hair style, his eye color, and his ears. You can change his hat and the rest of his clothing, but he

Golden Age of IllustrationGolden Age of Illustration2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
When in the second half of the 19th century newspapers and illustrated books became popular and widespread thanks to improvements in printing technology, many artists found their base to spread their skills. The official time span of the Golden Age of Illustration is said to be from 1880s to 1920s, but it varied a little bit between Europe and America.
While European illustrators were influenced mostly by the Pre-Raphaelites, Art Nouveau and Post-Impressionists (especially by Les Nabis, a group of Parisian artists), their American colleagues focused around Howard Pyle's Brandywine School of American Illustration in the Brandywine Valley.
Amongst the most popular artists of this time we find Arthur Rackham (UK), Howard Pyle (US), Ivan Bilibin (Russia), Theodor Kittelsen (Norway), Edmund Dulac (France), John Bauer (Sweden), Beatrix Potter (UK), N.C. Wyeth (US), Sulamith Wülfing (

U-um....Are your moms like that too?Ok little story here~U-um....Are your moms like that too?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I went to sleep yesterday and then my mom came to turn off my alarm saying I should sleep and not wake up at 7am because it's holidays *pfff yeah tell me about it*. So she took my phone to do it, but I had changed the wallpaper.
In the past I had this one *SHUN OF COURSE*
To which she said "Ooooh! Is he drawing stars in the sky? :iconilikeitplz:"
"No Mom, he's just flying a kite."
Well....close enough if you consider what happened yesterday :iconorzplz:
She saw my new wallpaper which is this one:
And it went like this:
Me: "Yeah mom I drew it alright let me sleep" *mumbling because it was 2am lol I never really show her my drawings or admit that I drew something so yup* *no I'm not shy who said that?*
Mom: "Pretty! Is that an airplane?"
Me: *jumps up from bed* ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Mom: Yeah I think those look like tires
Me: YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS :icondurrhurrplz: *cracking up like crazy*
*took the phone and showed her the full version*

Education and inspirations
He was born on the 16th of August 1876 (it was Wednesday) in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Before he became a student of the great Ilya Repin, he studied at the Art School of Anton Ažbe in Munich in 1898, so you can see that he gathered quite a good art education.
From 1902 to 1904 he travelled around Russian North. He became fairly inspired by the folklore of these a

Obsolete InkingLately I've been doing work for DC Direct--the wing of DC in charge of statues, toys, etc. It's been a nice break from PRJ. The money is good, and it hasn't been soulless like I imagined. Corporate gigs can go either way--sometimes they want you to do exactly what "they" want, other times they want you to do your thing unencumbered. Luckily this was the latter.Obsolete Inking3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The rates for toy designs are broken down into three parts: you get paid for the sketches, the final pencils and the inks. For this gig, the inking rate was higher than my normal inking rate. It felt good, but then I realized that 25% of my fee was for inks. And it raised an unsettled concern that's been on my mind.
How long will inkers be needed?
In the old days they needed inkers because computers weren't yet being used in print. I forget the name of the machine that preceded the scanner (process cameras?), but it was low-tech enough that i

Artists For Sharks! Feature! Learning!Artists For Sharks! Feature! Learning!2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Sometimes we have to be reminded, that we, as human beings, can be utterly horrifying creatures. Shark finning is an unfortunate process happening off many coastlines, to many unfortunate sharks.
Please look at the above deviation.
You can also read this blogpost: http://mishberries.blogspot.com/2012/11/you-love-shark-fin-i-love-sharks.html and watch this movie to educate yourselves. Warning: Not for the weak of will, stomach, or heart.
Even though there are many rules and regulations being put into place about shark finning, it is still happening, and most rules, laws and regulations didn't come to pass until the past five years.
The horrid process leaves sharks to die a cruel slow death, usually by suffocation, or being eaten. Many countries have been putting laws in effect to stop shark finning, or at worst forcing the fishermen to bring in the whole shark too port.
We as a people do have opinions, rights, and we can influence our governments to stop th

We have decided our theme will be Creativity is Cool
This contest is somewhat different: We will provide you with different stock images: Four of people, four of interior shots, four of outdoor/landscape images and four 'unusual or 'difficult' images. Now your mission is to choose one (or more) of those and get as creative with it as possible! You can use any part of the stock images in any way you like--so long as it's recognizable as having come from the image. Imagine all the different possibles!
Here pure skill is not as important- A perfect portrait might get not as much recognition as a really creative piece with the same stock base.

Bambu #01Hola a todos! me es grato anunciarles mi primer proyecto como diseñadora: Bambú.Bambu #011 year ago in Personal More Like This
