I have uploaded the pictures of the main pattern pieces for the jacket to my scrapbook. Take a look if you are having troubles modifying your own pattern! (I couldn't find the pattern for the collar, I drew it on a piece of paper somewhere and I think it is gone now... sorry!)
I have had a lot of requests asking how I made the jacket for my cosplay, so I decided I would write a quick overview of what went into making it. I will not go into excruciating detail, but if you would like more help on any particular section, please leave a comment and I would be happy to elaborate!
STEP 1: Picking fabric
Print lots of good colored reference shots for yourself (or carry a smartphone with you) before heading to the fabric store. It goes without saying that you want to pick fabric with color that closely resembles your source, but it is also important to take into consideration things like the thickness and flexibility of yo

I need help. Some of you might already know (though FB). I've suddenly lost my sister as she suddenly died a week ago in her sleep.I need help.6 months ago in Personal More Like This
This came as a big shock and leaves all of us sad/angry/confused. She was a kickass rockchick and no way old enough to leave this world.
She had a daughter (my niece) for who'm this indecent hits the hardest.
As if losing someone isn't one of the most unfair feelings in the world so is the technical stuff that comes with it.
Not being prepared for paying for a funeral is one of those technicalities that in no way helps such an awful event.
So that's where I could use your help.
I'm willing to sell all sorts of things to get as much money together as possible.
So I'm temporary opening up more affordable commissions and offering 1 and a half hour feedback sessions for cheap.

Bullshit myths about feminism.I know, I know. Going all ideological on you guys is a little a-typical for me, and perhaps (I hope) I'm preaching to the choir. But I've been noticing a lot of negativeness around the word and (more importantly) the ideology of feminism, and a lot of that seems to be based on misinformation or misunderstanding. This might not be the best place to fix any of that, but I felt like chipping in anyway. It beats doing nothing, right?Bullshit myths about feminism.4 months ago in Personal More Like This
So, here's some of my "favorite" bullshit myths:
Bullshit Myth: Feminists think girls are better than guys.
Feminism isn't Misandry! Feminists don't hate guys, or think women are better than guys. In fact, that idea is the other opposite of what it's really about : equality.
When extreme feminism turns into Misandry it stops being feminism, as they are fighting against the very thing feminism hopes to accomplish. (I believe these people a tiny minority but I won't deny it exists; there's nutcases on every team after all).

But here in german Cosplay scene, and perhaps also for many other countries it's really a novelty.
It can be used for paper decoration, for gemstones, paint and much more.

Characters I Love: SupergirlCharacters I Love: Supergirl5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Jenn from Dangerous Ladies @ DA
I had been thinking about doing something like this for a while. Outlining why I enjoy certain characters and who better to start out with than my favorite superheroine, Supergirl.
I feel slightly bad that I can't recall when I first learned of Supergirl's existence. After much thinking (and head pounding) my best guess is it was with the Superman: The Animated Series episode Little Girl Lost. Now before I was a Supergirl fan I was (still am but as I say, Kara is easier on the eyes lol) a Superman fan. I know people call him boring, a boy scout, but Superman is the archetype superhero. Personally, I like the idea of an absolute good guy hero so Supes always will be one of my favorite heroes. So as a much younger Mad Man (minus my pen though) I watched STAS and fed my growing love of the DCAU. Then we get to Little Girl Lost and I meet Supergirl.
THREE TIPS FOR DRAWING CARSYou know that green ellipse tool that you bought in art school? Do you know how to use it for something other than oval shapes? Do you know what those "cross-hair" marks are for? And do you know how to use it for technically correct perspective drawings?THREE TIPS FOR DRAWING CARS2 years ago in Personal More Like This
TOO many comics artists don't, and it's driving me crazy. So instead of starting a blog that starts showing examples and naming names, I figured it was better to make a quick tutorial. And this isn't just for cars but also for guns, fire hydrants, and millions of other machined objects found in comics.
If you go through this and you're still stuck, please don't write to me. I'm happy to show you at a convention to make it clearer, but within a blog this is the best I can do. Check out "Perspective for Comic Artists by David Chelsea" for more.
Cars are a whole lot easier to draw if you know how to properly use perspective and ellipses. The more familiar you are with the math, the more fun it is to draw cars. Once I figured out th

How difficult it always is, to get stones for a costume in the right color, size and shape.
That's why I uploaded this tutorial today: How to make gems.
How to work step by step:
What materials do you need:
- resin and hardener
- tinting paint
- cups and spoons/ chopsticks to stir
- maybe a scale
- silicone mold for/ of stones (I bought it on etsy)
- aluminium foil

UPDATE: Saw Showa ending, in short it's not as good and my opinions on the movie still stand.
After a bit of waiting, Imagination Station (easy to google) has subbed Kamen Rider Taisen. For those unsure about their work, I've heard their last sub of a KR movie was mixed, but this one feels like it could've been Over-Time or Aesir apart from the font size. It reads just fine, no wonky translations, nothing distracting. So go for it.
Now, before I get on with the review, I always feel the need to address some things fandom-wise. I apparently have a thing for calling out stupidity when I see it. But it bares mention due to the gimmick of the movie.
In short, fans could vote if Heisei Riders win or Showa Riders win, at the end. The Heisei side won, and a small minority of people (on HJU at least) - I shit you not - genuinely thought the polls were rigged by the writer of the movie because the writer said in an interview they would love to see Heisei
F.A.Q. TIME!!I get quite a few messages here on DA with various questions and requests. I don't have time due to work and family to answer all of them individually like I would like so I think a handy-dandy FAQ is in order. This way maybe I can answer a question before it's even asked and/or have a journal I can easily direct people to. So here we go!F.A.Q. TIME!!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Q: Can you give me any tips on how to draw/color,paint/whatever better?
A: The quick and easy answer is that there aren't any secrets to being able to draw well. I know it's not what people want to hear and everyone is looking for a magic trick that will instantly make them a better artist. The truth is that I have dedicated 1000s of hours to art in an effort to get better. I attended figure drawing classes, went to conventions and spent hours talking to other artists, and spent nearly every dime I had on books and art supplies. I lived it and breathed it. When you were out on a date or playing video games or seeing movies I was probably home d
Self Portrait Challenge!Ok, so this is kinda linking back with something I thought about doing aages ago. But the main idea came from talking with some of you lovely people and the comments from this journal here: http://fav.me/d61xe9iSelf Portrait Challenge!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
The power of self-perception, and the confidence (or lack thereof) you gain from it, does affect how you act and the choices you make in your life. And no I'm not talking about the whole "you are beautiful" thing so much as, how you see and percieve yourself. How we see ourselves is completely different to how other people see us.
I do notice this a lot, being a stock artist and having lots of artists draw me. One was worried that I'd be offended that he drew my legs a little large or something like that. Hell, doesn't bother me. Draw me as you see me, as how you percieve me, as how you want your art to turn out. The rest is superfluous really, since I play a character in my stock sets and none of them are really set as a piece to show me as well, me.
So that's my idea. Kinda l

I wonder if anyone ever thought one second about the fact it is very tiring to be a nice person.

All the sacrifices that are made so that people they like or care about have less pressure on their shoulders.
Did you know it is hard to smile while no one around feel

Nonviolence: The Only Road to Freedom
By Martin Luther King Jr.
Whole article here: http://teachingamericanhistory.org/library/index.asp?document=1426
Selected quotes from the article:
"I am convinced that for practical as well as moral reasons, nonviolence offers the only road to freedom for my people. Violence as a strategy for social change in America is nonexistent. All the sound and fury seems but the posturing of cowards whose bold talk produces no action and signifies nothing."
"It is always amusing to me when a Negro man says that he can't demonstrate with us because if someone hit him he would fight back. Here is a man whose children are being plagued by rats and roaches, whose wife is robbed daily at overpriced ghetto
Timing fucking matters.Time does a lot of things, it makes you older, it gets you to places, it never stops going forward. However you control when and how you use it!Timing fucking matters.4 months ago in Personal More Like This
Everyone makes choices on a daily bases, most of them are actually done with your auto-pilot function out of habit.
Most people usually sit in the same spot on the couch, chooses what to wear based on previously made combinations and so on, unless they consciously become aware of their action and might decide it's time for a change. It can be a small thing that makes people aware of their options
You can count that pretty much every person out there works like this and YOU often depend on THEIR choices.
My point of this journal is saying: Use this in your advantage!
Time can be compared to a diet. Eating to much bad stuff will make you unhealthy and feel bad, while eating healthy things will keep you going and feel good. So time can either make you feel stuck in one place, maybe even going backwards (ageing already does that for you) or

Something that's been bugging me a bit lately is how the DA community has sorta changed over the years (and not in a good way). People are more bold and will post whatever's on their mind, and while that can be a good thing in some scenarios, I feel that people oftentimes say things that they might not realize will hurt someone's feelings.
I generally get a lot of positive feedback, and it really helps! It's always great to know that someone likes my work, and it keeps me motivated to keep going with this hobby. However, I'm still a human being, and negative criticism can hurt me just as much as anyone else. I'm not sure what it is, but the amount of really negative comments has increased these past couple years, and it really discourages me from even using this website anymore. Many times I've considered just disabling comments entirely, but I feel that would
