My buddy *HylianJean had an early birthday party this past weekend and, seeing how she always gives me the most lovelythings for my birthday, I figured it was high time I returned the favor.
We met through the Myst community and Jean is a huge Riven/Moiety fanatic, so I thought it appropriate to draw her in some fancy, Katran-esque Rivenese getup. Thanks to Dropbox for not saving my first attempt because WHATEVER the second one turned out way better. SO THERE
Red Dead Redemption! (My god is that John Marston smiling!?) Another fave game of mine where I finally do some artwork for; embodying Marston as the achievement "Dastardly": [link] I actually hogtied a lady and threw her on the tracks just for shits and giggles and the achievement popped up! It was an awesome surprise! haha - props to Rockstar! Thanks for lookin!
My piece for Ltd. Art Gallery's OVER THE LINE show, opening TONIGHT (June 6th) in Seattle! I'll be swinging by the opening myself, if any of y'all are planning on making an appearance- looks like it's going to be a pretty amazing spread.
I had a ton of ideas for this show initially, and was actually a good 60% into a piece before I switched gears and decided to do a Dapper Dan spread, a la magazine ads of the late 1930's. I'm a sucker for typography and commercial design, not to mention George Clooney's handsome handsome face, so this seemed like the best choice all around.
HAHAHAHA SUCKERS try to shame me now for hoarding all those interbellum era fonts
Cyan launched their Obduction Kickstarter yesterday to roaring success, and so I can finally post the first piece of mine that they've shown! I've been lucky enough to be helping them out behind the scenes for the past couple of months, and the little seven-year-old in me is flipping out to be involved with Cyan in any way, shape, or form.
Not sure how much I can say about the design since most everything's still under wraps, but there are a lot of clues to draw from. So go check out the Kickstarter, and contribute if you can! I guarantee that this'll be a project worth following.
My finished piece for the Clash of the Classics book! The prompt was to illustrate some iconic conflict from traditional literature and, well, who am I to resist Poe? I've been drawing Fortunato and Montressor in some way or another for years, so it seemed like a good opportunity to revisit some of my older work:
I'll be the first to admit that I bit off a little more than I could chew with this thing- spiritual triptych, an abominable number of elaborately-dressed background characters, like a ton of skulls. Way to simplify, Claire.
This was an insanely cool idea for an art show- all of the participating artists were asked to draw themselves as RPG characters, the results of which were then compiled into a working card game. I'm Hrimgunnr Kolfrost, an ornery ranger from the Norther Kingdom with a penchant for big guns and smush-faced dogs. Makes sense.
You can buy the card game HERE, and prints from the show HERE.
New print for Steamcon V this weekend! I've had this thing on the back burner for something like a year now (and I've had the Harley design for even longer) so it feels fantastic to see it to finish. Hand-drawn typography always seems like such a good idea when you're starting a piece! And then... Kerning. Kerning for hours.
