A Warm Place IIA Warm Place II2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
Where am I?
Is this real?
I feel cold.
It's so quiet.
So this is what it's like,
To fade from existence,
To be eternally lost.
It's so dark,
It's so lonely.
I feel so tired,
I feel so sad, sadder than before.
I wish I could return, but I know I can't.
I can feel myself,
And memories of my life,
Slip into the hollow darkness around me.

Hoping to somehow fit in
Make-up, curling irons, and clothes
It turns us into something else
Roses painted to be washed clean
Remnants of what we wish to be
Ordinary is never good enough
Resplendence never comes for free!
Look in the mirror, what do you see
Inner beauty is never there
Eyes are not made to look upon it
So goes the mirror, so goes the soul…
Where You AreThis bodyWhere You Are2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
may not currently reside beside yours,
it may not know
of your warm skin's touch
beneath the blanket,
it may not yet have discovered
of your constant company,
but it can sense
that it has found its other half
I am always there with you,
I am only dreaming
of being where you are.
When these arms
find their home
curled 'round your waist
and these hands
work a gentle caress
along your back,
there is no denying
that urgent sense,
that undeniable understanding
that this is right,
that you are made for me,
I am made for you
and when we are together
with your hair
dripping down my cheeks
and our foreheads
kiss as our eyes close
to heighten all other senses,
there is nowhere else
I would rather be
than where you are.
There are moments
when I am laying here alone
come to me like a star,
the only light in this darkness
and my eyes
begin to blur the world
as they grow moist,
my lips fall open
and all of my breath escapes
in throaty gasp
The King of HeartsThe King of HeartsThe King of Hearts2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
Once upon a time, there was a man
He stood on the podium, his heart in his hand
He held it high for all the people to see
He said this is what you get, this is me
It stood there beating in the frosty air
Each thump of emotion to all laid bare
It wormed through their skin and into their souls
Found their own spongy hearts and filled in the holes
And then arose a feeling that none could explain
The felt the man's love and they felt his pain
He said I am your leader and I am your king
But I'm still just a man stumbling
Looking for purpose, justice, and light
Making mistakes and making them right
So sow your fields and drive your flocks
Fell your trees and break your rocks
Try to eek a living from this land
And never be ashamed to hold your heart in your hand
For that is the fate of human kind
Looking for happiness but all they find
War and famine, death and decay
And so they turn to me and say
Ease our hardships, end our suffering
Won't you make things right O' King
