"I know, you were pretty bad," Hale replied from the passenger seat, crossing his arms, a wide grin spread across his face.
"Me?" Zach sounded offended. "I made every shot, but you!" He laughed a little harder. "Dude, when you first fired and fell back cause the kickback-"
"Hey, I didn't know it was going to be so strong," the anthro wolf defended himself.
"I just wish Wolf could have seen you," Zach said, pulling to a stop in front of Hale's home. "When I told her we were going, she was bummed she couldn't be there to watch."
Hale watched for Zach to park the car before he opened the door and got out. "She wanted to see me make a fool of myself?"
"You know it," Zach grinned, getting out of the car.

“Get out of our territory, Shadowclan flea-pelt!” Stonekit squeaked, charging at Thrushpelt. He battered the tom’s ear with his tiny paws.
“You should never have come here!” Mistykit cried, standing atop the tom.
“Yeah! Because we’re the greatest Thunderclan warriors ever!” Mosskit boasted, climbing up and standing next to her sister.
“Oh yeah?” He grinned and heaved upward.
With squeaks of surprise and delight, Mistykit and Mosskit tumbled from his back. They recovered quickly and tackled his paws. Thrushpelt growled playfully.
Bluefur smiled and laughed.

Zach turned on his heel to scan the room for his partner. And when he caught sight of the younger man shuffling toward him, he groaned with displeasure. The young man was a lot smaller than Zach and would provide no such challenge for Zach who was already top of the class.
"Hi, I'm Winter," the young man gave a sickeningly sweet smile and Zach replied with a simple nod, keeping his seemingly-permanent frown on his face. Winter was unaffected by Zach's hostility, however. "So we're going to be sparring partners? I heard you're one of the best in the class."
"I'm a lot better than you, I promise you that," Zach replied harshly, folding his arms across his chest as he listened to the instructor finish pairing up the students.
"Well, I don't really like to fight," Winter continued to talk. "I'm more of a defensive person."

"Mhm, I'm glad you can read a clock, Eddy," Bobby said with a grin, his arms folded comfortably behind his head.
"Do you know what today is?"
"Tuesday?" the thief asked after a hum. "Do we have something to do today? I thought we weren't heading out until Friday?"
Since they'd finished their job in their current town, it wouldn't be long before they cleared out of their hotel room and hopped a plane to their next destination.
"No, it's not that!" Eddy laughed, turning to Bobby who was moving to prop himself up on his elbows, looking at Eddy with his head tilted. "You really don't know?"
"Like you said, it's after midnight. I'm tired, my brain doesn't work as well when I'm tired." Bobby said, trying to keep a straight face as he gave Eddy his horribly lame excuse.

Sann sat in the little, pink, plastic chair by the window. She looked outside and watched as gusts of wind carried the clouds across the bright, full moon. The window creaked and groaned whenever the enraged wind battered it from outside. To Sann, the roaring of the wind sounded like the shadows were trying to claw their way into the house. Their long, gangling claws sliced at the window, but could not penetrate the glass.
She hated shadows. Sann was scared to death of them. Anything could be lurking inside ready to strike. That's why she sat close to the window, where she could bath in the glow of the moonlight. Safe.
Pulling her knees up under her chin, Sann watched as moonlight danced on the trees which were swaying from the wind. She shivered, but kept her gaze on the silent moon.
Something moved in the room.
Sann froze, not knowing if she should turn and look or ignore it. What if she sees one of the monsters? Its beady dark eyes staring back at her as

Zach pulled himself out of bed early the next morning. He got dressed, putting on a hoodie so that he could hide his gun under the waistband of his jeans and still not be noticed. He took his earpiece and slipped it into his ear, turning it on. He was not expecting to hear Hale's voice ring in through it.
"Hale?" Zach paused slightly. "What on earth are you doing up this early?" he glanced over at the clock. "It's like 6 A.M."
"I can't sleep." Hale sighed. "I've been sitting outside for hours."
"This job is making me nervous."
"Do you get nervous on all your jobs? Because you said that same thing back in London." Zach laughed lightly, grabbing his car keys off the dresser.
"Only the big ones." Hale replied, yawning loudly.
Zach smiled a little. "You should get some sleep, man. I'm sure even Wolf is passed out on her laptop in there."
He could hear Hale hum a little and shift around in the spot he was sitting. "What are you doing?"

"Yeah, I know," Jasper had replied. "I just didn't feel like fightin' today."
"Well," Rufio held out his hand, offering to help Jasper up. "Next time ya feel like fightin', you should call me. I like to throw punches sometimes."

Nothing hurts the way,
The ocean does,
When she tastes blood.

She weeps into the sand,
I’ve seen it myself.

Corpses strewn over the sand,
Cows and goats and sheep.
She sucks at their red, red necks,
Sapping them little by little,
Pulling them inward, calling them home.
A child doesn’t understand,
What the ocean does.
This is still a game.

“This one died of no head,”
“This one died of no hind,”
“This one died of no tail.”

Each goat, cow and lamb,
A new son of Abraham.

She sighs with each lap at the sand,
Weeping, weeping, weeping.
The child is oblivious to her suffering,
Too young to know the gravity,
Of the woe rising from her black, black depths.
She does her best to help them,
She pulls each bit of red from their fur,
She tastes stinging copper and swells crimson.
She thinks maybe,
