The Danger of UrgencyJournal time!! I apologize for the length of this post, but I think it's important for artists, especially newer artists, to consider. Hopefully it will be of some use to you in your artistic journey. The Danger of Urgency6 months ago in Personal More Like This
SO... ConceptArt has been sending out emails to promo their study programs with little snippets of advice, some of them are good but one of them that came the other day really irks me. The first thing on their list is, "Study with a sense of urgency"
Now... this is my opinion, but I've heard similar sentiments from many other artists and creators who I would consider, "successful" in their field. And, in my opinion, "Study with a sense of urgency" is the absolute worst advice anyone could give to a beginner.
Yes, you need to work hard. The arts are a competitive field, and you need to push yourself if you want to climb the ladder. BUT in all of your hard work beware of mind sets like:
-"If I don't get good fast my dream job will disappear."
-"When this artist was my age they were still

Welcome to the 10th in the series of The F Word. Pumpkin CarvingHalloween is just around the corner. To celebrate, this week's feature is all about the awesome works of art made from this delicious orange fruit. Some pumpkin carvings are made to be viewed lit up, the image projected being the goal of the carving. Others are made to be viewed by the light of day and are wonderfully detailed sculptures. Lit or not, they're all stunning.Pumpkin Carving2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

When you want to quit art, think about this...I think most of us had it at some point. A moment in which we felt sad about our art. It might have been a full developed artblock, or just a small moment of hopelessness, perhaps questioning our artistic career, asking yourself "Why did I actually start doing this?".When you want to quit art, think about this...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Over the years, I've had many moments like that. Most of them triggered by another failed drawing, a total lack of inspiration (while I needed to get creative work done --nothing more annoying than that!), or another harsh critique that was just a bit too much to handle, at that particular moment.
I've had many times that I doubted myself. There have been times when I questioned my creativity in general. Times when I was sad about just another harsh critique, or depressed for being turned down by another group or publisher. Times when I got angry and shouted that I wanted to quit art altogether.
But eventually, I never quit.
The point is... no matter how angry or sad I am, it always takes me a while to calm down and

The lump on the side of his head was something that had a starting point in his salivary glands which is why it started growing rapidly in the first place.
The surgery would have been a complete success as the vet managed to remove and clean everything, but there was one smaller lump remaining and growing right on his jugular vein.
He asked us what did we want to do. He told us he could let him live like this but the lump near his jugular would have to remain because there was no way of removing it, and because it was in that particular place it would grow even faster...
We decided to put him to sleep rather than to have him suffer as he recovers from surgery with the lump on his artery continuing to grow and eventually suffocating him, or bursting up and poisoning him..
I couldn't bear knowing that the i

The world of Uskutar was a harsh, desert world, making it a poor choice to be a Raska colony. However, it was high in metals and minerals, not to mention the sand made an excellent base for synthetic crystals. So, it was colonized for the sole purpose of mining and industry. It's importance made it one of the best defended colonies of the Empire, and often had an entire defensive fleet in orbit at all times.
Lord Te'Ra Es'Sie, a male Ne'Ala noble, was in charge of many of the mining facilities and therefore the defense of the system. it was a rather cushy job since the Empire was not at war with anyone, and he hoped that wouldn't change for a long time.

Liam Sharp was and is one of the most sought after comic artists in the business. After bursting on the scene by drawing the bestselling Marvel UK title of all time, Death Head II, he was back in America illustrating top line comics like Superman, Batman and Spiderman as well as special projects for people like Stan Winston. For anyone unfamiliar with his amazing work, his galleries can be found on deviantART. I recently got lost for an entire day perusing a single file of his Conan illustrations.

In some places, the horrors created were so indescriptible that even the Sibling Eater had decided to bomb them from orbit to avoid a mass extinction of the world's nightmarish ecosystem. The warships flew at only 200km from the surface, scanning the surface with their all-seeing eyes and coldly taking note of the new monsters that were spawned between each of the 3 hour sunsets. Optical and radar feed filled exabytes worth of archival space, making the computers of the ships work to their fullest.

Shine a Light
Light means so many things in our lives beyond mere illumination.
Cinematographers call the hour just before the sun sets “the magic hour.” Movie producers and directors schedule the shooting of love scenes and other important moments in their script to take advantage of the powerful effect that “magic hour” sunlight subliminally exerts on our psyches. The Dutch master painters of the 17th century were expert in focusing the eye on the “story
The 5 bullshit myths of concept art.Concept art is getting bigger and bigger. More people know what it is nowadays, it gets shown in the media more often and more books get released. This automatically results into more people wanting to become concept artists. So many artschools are now creating special courses all towards game art or concept art. (Game art can also include UI design, 3D modeling etc.).The 5 bullshit myths of concept art.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yet it is a fairly new thing to most people and the idea of "becoming a concept artist" has grown rapidly over such a short time that a lot of people who are new to it seem to get a lot of misguide info. I am going to try to list this misguided info and direct you to the correct info.
(Again I would always advise you to do your own research and form your own knowledge and not just simply agree with what you read online, not from anyone, not from me. Even though i'm right .. ofcourse. *wink *wink )

I made a book.....With the other girls in my art class. We are known as AFTER EIGHT! Mwahahaha!!!!I made a book.....3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Alright I'm done being weird. We are selling the book online, as well as in the city we live in, Toronto. You can pre-order the book for $10 and if you do you get a button(I'll post pictures of them later). If you wait till the day that the book is out then the book will be $12 and no button.
We'll ship to a lot of places, note me if you're interested.
The book is anthology of eight different stories that vary from 8- 12 pages. The book is 100 pages long, and in black and white. We've been working on it since January-ish this year.
I appreciate anyone who took the time to at least read this journal, thanks you so much.

so, on my plans and scheduling.for the first time ever i have a hard chapter deadline... thankfully it is already pre planned so it's all a matter of just sitting down and drawing it all out.so, on my plans and scheduling.1 month ago in Personal More Like This
what's this deadline. well, chapter 5 needs to be complete by end of april, early may.
as it's tied into publishing in june and wrapping up the first arc.
sowhere does that leave us? well, there will be another strip this month, and then next month 2 more, and then pacing goes up to 4 + a month. not optional XD
so...good news everyone... i got people kicking my ass to move it XD
now after chapter 5 and the first whole arc is complete, i'll take about 2 months off. i need to plan out the pacing of mercy, mos importantly all the timings need to align in that story as it begins during ally and alan's college days, then catches up with sunstone and then progresses it's story forward as well.
now if you are one of the impatient people, don't waste your time being dissapointed by checking here every day. it is disheartening, tr

TALENT IS EARNEDTalent is EarnedTALENT IS EARNED1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I get it. There are some people out there that do have some extreme capabilities right out of the womb, but this is targeted to those who are average joes, who think they can’t do things that a person with ‘Talent’ can.
Let’s start by defining the word ‘Talent’. According to dictionary.com it states
1. a special natural ability or aptitude: a talent for drawing.
2. a capacity for achievement or success; ability: young men of talent.
3. a talented person: The cast includes many of the theater’s major talents.
4. a group of persons with special ability: an exhibition of water colors by the local talent.
5. Movies and Television. professional actors collectively, especially star performers.
This definition, in my opinion, is misused when said to me. Because to me it implies that what I do, is specially natural to me and

As a result we have reduced the group gallery down to just that!
