How art tutoring should be nowadaysYes. Another one of my rants that starts with a personal experience. How art tutoring should be nowadays2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
It was a day like any other, and I was just surfing DeviantArt, browsing the many deviations in my inbox. While I did so, my eye wandered to something that was called an 'tutorial on manga anatomy'. As usual, I was curious about the content. And as the preview image was pretty small, I wanted to check this out. It seems like this girl, let's name her Abbey (it's not her real name, but I think calling her 'that girl' is so damn confusing) had made a tutorial on male manga anatomy. Nothing wrong with that, you'd say. But I've been following Abbey for a while already. I originally met her in the forums, asking for feedback on one of her fanart drawings. Mostly anatomy related stuff. I gave her some tips. We talked a bit. And I followed her soon after, as I thought her art looked pretty promising altogether.
Now, I didn't know Abbey in real life. But she was a beginning artist, nowhere towards a level
Using Colloquialisms: Are you down with it? Colloqualism: You down with it?Using Colloquialisms: Are you down with it?1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
A word or phrase that is not formal or literary and is used in ordinary or familiar conversation. synonyms: slang, idioms, patois, dialect.
Examples: whatcha, gotta, face on, ovver.
I’m sure you’ve had a good telling off by your teachers for using colloquial language inappropriately in your writing. I’ve had essays returned with the word “too informal” scrawled along the margin or a big red exclamation mark next to a certain word, who hasn’t? What just me? Oh right… my bad!
So WHY would we use colloquial language in our writing, after years of tackling the angry red pen?
I know we’re not supposed to judge a book by its over – or a person by their accent – but it happens. You can tell us a lot about a character by the kind of language they use. Are they all gangsta, dropping hooded verbs
Creating comics makes me wiserI am speaking for myself when I say creating comics makes me wiser.Creating comics makes me wiser2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I find that it's one thing to write well, another to draw well, and even more challenging to do both well together seamlessly and simultaneously.
I pay more attention to the details in life, both visually, emotionally, mentally and socially what makes people tick, cry, fume, laugh and downright puzzled. I record fascinating ordinary conversations and sights. I organize my memories differently. I have with me not only my own, but so many others. I collect experiences.
I desire to understand human development, how the relationships we create with one another forges such a diversity of personalities, how we physically age and keep our youthfulness. I desire to understand larger systems at work, institutions, governance, criminal, legal, environmental and ecological. I desire to be open to different ways of beings, their belief systems, their culture, their history, their language and traditions. I wonder more.

The Assumptions of TheftOne of the biggest issues facing creative minds in the age of the internet is that of theftof art, of ideas, of design work, even of code. The Assumptions of Theft3 years ago in Personal More Like This
When we creative types come upon an instance where our work or the work of friends has been repurposed/stolen/ripped, we naturally are upset. We rally our fellow artists to build an army of good against those who would steal that which we painstakingly created from scratch. We send emails, tweets, facebook posts, blog posts, journal posts, and even send snail mail in an attempt to discourage the thieves. We will insult them, threaten them with lawsuits, and make their lives so difficult that they will naturally have no choice but to take down the stolen work.
I have also had my work stolen in many ways. Logos I have created have appeared on websites where the thieves are attempting to actually re-sell the work, artwork I've made has appeared on other websites as both decoration and downloadable/purchasable products, and in one instance some of
'Don't Feed the Trolls' needs to die.I wish I was joking, but another bout of sexual harassment against women creeped up this week (only days after the Might No. 9 fiasco). This time in the form of an indi video game a woman is trying to get green-lit to Steam. The game is about depression and is just suppose to help people understand what it’s like living with it, and for this “grievous” action she’s been the target of harassment campaigns. She’s received harassing phone calls, death threats, her personal information and addresses posted for everyone to see. She’s had to change her phone number to stop the harassment, and even pulled the game originally to try and calm this crap down.'Don't Feed the Trolls' needs to die.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Bravely, she’s decided to post it anyway and is trying desperately to showcase how awful, hurtful, and disgusting our gaming community can be when we stay silent.
You can “justify” your reasons for hating her. You can convince yourself that sending her harassment and hate messages is for
Disney vs Lucas ArtsIf ever you bring up Disney in a conversation, people immediately recite tired old issues with the company that haven't been true for a long time. For example, complaining about the excess of half-assed sequels. That was part of Michael Eisner's regime. When he left the studio the quality Disney was producing suddenly skyrocketed considerably. Likewise the excessive merchandising and branding of Disney related products has also ceased to be as all-consuming now that Eisner is gone. In fact, a lot of the main issues people had with Disney during the 90's and early 2000's was a result of Eisner.Disney vs Lucas Arts2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since Eisner left, the Disney studio has done a REMARKABLE job in clearing their name of many of the atrocities they had committed during his regime. They promptly turned the animation department around and have even begun doing 2-D animated films again after Eisner said "no." Granted, at the moment 2-D is still in hiatus, but the situation isn't as dire as it use to be and there's still promise
Getting Your Story Written (Not Thought)So, you want to write a story. Great! But for some writers, this can take a lot of time; which definitely isn’t great if you’re on a schedule! I suffer from this same problem myself most of the times that I try to write, but I’ve figured out ways to get around the tricky subject of writer’s block.Getting Your Story Written (Not Thought)6 months ago in Personal More Like This
Step 1: Shutting off your Inner Editor.
Everyone has one, right? That little voice which tells you to go back, which tells you that you’ve missed a full stop, which tells you that the story can wait if the punctuation or the point isn’t up to scratch.
You need to learn how to shut them up.
Whether that might be Zen meditation, awkward talks with yourself over coffee, whatever you need; just try to suppress that little voice that automatically checks over your work. Right now, they really are not what you need to focus on. Here are a couple of ideas on how to keep your inner editor quiet.
Sub-step 1: Run with some initial ideas.

How I watercolor with little artistic knowledgeHow I watercolor with little artistic knowledge1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Welcome to my journal! Main reason I'm doing this is to test out a cool CSS thing! Because I love to waste time like that. But then, since I have not made a WIP journal in a while, I thought, "why not? Especially since I realized I have never done a painting WIP series, only for my splatter ink ones. Now I see why - when you're working with watercolor, everything dries so fast!
Even so, here it is! I'm going to try to give some hints or tips, especially for beginners. But first thin you should know is that I don't work professionally. At all. I'm really messy and I'm always covered in ink afterwards. Furthermore, as seen above, I have to edit my paintings a bit before I post them, because I don't have a scanner. Generally, I take photographs during the day, when I can get the best lighting.
I hope you enjoy! Feel free to ask any more questions in the comments!
Before you watercolor, good things to have on hand:

Rant - Something I always wanted to saySo. Some of my friends on here are being cyber-bullied by some trolls. I won´t say any names in case it would attract other trolls, but I´m sure they know who I´m talking about.Rant - Something I always wanted to say2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Those trolls have created multiple fake accounts, stolen some of their pictures and (badly) manipped them onto other pictures to insult them. They have also been insulted verbally in the most disgusting way possible.
It is obvious that those trolls are jealous, but that´s never a reason to bully someone. I have been bullied myself while I was in elementary school and during my first high school years, and it is anything but fun, I tell you.
Another page on which I have noticed a large amount of bullying is facebook. I am on there to keep in touch with friends, mostly friends from abroad, and classmates. Almost every day I see some posted images entitled with "OMG have you seen how fat/skinny/ugly

how to self harmBefore you self harm in any way, you should probably know what you're getting into. Before you make that cut, please keep in mind that you will find the pain release and blood strangely addictive. You may think to yourself that you'll be able to control it, that you won't let it get out of hand. You may think that you can just stick to a few small, shallow cuts here and there that won't be deep and that will heal quickly and easily. But you're wrong. You can't control it, it's impossible to control. It controls you. It's an addiction. The cuts will get deeper, they'll scar. They'll take weeks to months to heal and years for the scars to actually begin to fade. You'll find that soon, you depend on it. You can't go more than a few days without cutting. You'll go crazy as your skin itches and burns, your hands shake, your head pounds, your vision goes blurry as you try to keep your mind off of it, try to hold back from giving in. But you will. If you think you can limit the cuts to just one ahow to self harm3 years ago in Personal More Like This
