This gentle kirin is a rare creature from Japanese mythology, said to bring peace and serenity to all who see her.
Leif loves watching water. She likes to see rivers running around pebbles, waves crashing on rocks but her favourite is watching gentle raindrops in puddles. She is quiet and thoughtful, always optimistic and a bit of a philosopher.
Leif measures approximately 8” tall from heels to antler-tip. She is weighted with steel-shot and stuffed with polyester Her body is machine sewn from cuddlesoft fur and her ruff and tail are 100% polyester fake fur. Her head is cast resin from an original sculpt, as are her antlers, paws and feet. She has wire in her tail meaning it can be gently repositioned.
I've been working on a set of small dolls with the same head and body shape at the same scale. The jackalope has been the first to be finished, but the gryphon chick head is ready to go. I just need to paint and assemble one. I haven't finished sculpting the dragon pup yet, I am tossing up ideas about scales and textures and things.
They will all have some sort of set of antlers or horns but they will be interchangable between heads, so you could have a gryphon chick with antlers or a jackalope with little nubby baby horns or a dragon pup with big oryx horns. It will make customs a little more custom. The gryphons and jackalopes will have the same feet, dragons will be different, but again they will be intechangable, so if you really wanted you could have a jackalope with dragon feet.
I'm taking suggestions for other small mythical creatures to make. I think a manticore would be interesting, maybe different styles of creature as well, so western and eastern dragon pups.
It's also been requested I make some equine creatures, so pegasus foals are definitely on the cards.
I just finished two little ivory kirins with golden details, this is the more reticent of the two sisters, Elemis.
Elemis has a bigger mane than her sister, but this suits her just fine. She loves snow and chilly winter mornings. Cuddling up in that big mane is perfect for when she is following animal tracks! Seeing tiny mouse pawpads perfectly printed on the paths around her house never fails to bring her joy.
Elemis measures approximately 8" tall from heels to antler-tip. Her head is cast resin from an original sculpt, as are her antlers, paws and feet. They have been painted with acrylics and enamel and varnished so they can withstand knocks and drops. She is weighted with steel-shot and stuffed with polyester Her body is machine sewn from cuddlesoft fur and her ruff and tail are 100% polyester fake fur. One of her feet casts has my mark on it to signify it as a Maddy Norval art doll.
I'm also open for Kirin customs at the moment! Please send me a message on Etsy to chat about availability and colour schemes. (DA notes are too hard to sort through, please, please message me through Etsy or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org)
Colby is a young dragon pup who loves digging holes. Like most dragons, he is a creature of earth and fire and always wants to be underground. Or maybe he’s hunting for buried treasure - as we all know, dragons have a natural lust for gold.
He is a mixed media art doll made to display proudly in your home.
Colby measures approximately 7.5” tall from heels to horn-tip. He is weighted with steel-shot and stuffed with polyester His body is machine sewn from cuddlesoft fur and his ruff and tail are 100% polyester fake fur. His head is cast resin from an original sculpt, as are his horns, paws and feet. He has latex wings and ear-fins that have wire running through them, so they can be gently repositioned.
More about Colby, shipping info and pricing on the Etsy listing.
This is a young black gryphon. At the moment his favourite food is anything red - red currants, rosehips, tomatoes, cherries, raw meat, apples and I even saw him taking an experimental chomp at a rose the other day.
He measures approximately 8" tall from heels to ear-tufts. He is weighted with steel-shot and stuffed with polyester His body is machine sewn from cuddlesoft fur and his ruff and tail are 100% polyester fake fur. All the feathers on him are real chicken feathers sourced from happy, healthy birds. His head is cast resin from an original sculpt, as are his antlers, paws and feet.
I actually finished and phorographed him and his brother over a month ago but was too shy to upload them. I just wasn't happy with how they turned out - but they've grown on me now. What do you think?
Made for AliceFelidae over on FA, designed by :devpainted-bee:
On the reference sheet it says: "Anthous is a small plant spirit who looks after the blooming and polination of the star shaped flowers of spring and summer. If you keep such flowers in your bedroom, he will visit you in your dreams."
The trickiest part of this commission was getting the dripping nectar whiskers right and the fleshy leafy petal ears posable. They rotate back and forth and up and down thanks to a ball-and-socket rig. The entire body has wire running through it so it can be gentle repositioned, and his face and paws are polymer clay painted with acrylics.
If you're interested in a commission please send me an email to email@example.com!
Caberfeidh (cahber-fey - meaning "deer head") abdabs measure 3" cubed and are now available in my online shop
You can pick the colours for the body and mane or go for a lucky dip! Pictured is a black/black
This antlered deer skull design was requested by someone looking for a custom shape. I agreed to produce it for no extra cost as long as they didn't mind if I sold replicas of it, and the caberfeidhs were born. If you have an idea for a skull shape I'd love to hear it!
Another alpaca! I love making these little guys, they are really enchanting in person. I dabbled with dyeing the fur but those curls don't like it very much and it seems a shame to jeopardise the gorgeous softness.
This beautiful cuddly alpaca doll has gorgeous creamy, curly fur and a charming smile. He has little felt ears coloured delicately with chalks, and gentle hooves with a shining layer of varnish.
His 'skeleton' is a plastic ball and socket armature so will never break, but he has wire in his ankles and where the head meets the neck to allow for more realistic movement.
The fur is synthetic faux fur, it is very dense and soft and has a thick layer of stuffing, so he is very cuddly. His face is hard plastic painted with acrylics and varnished.
This little alpaca measures 9" from hoof to ear and 10.5" from nose to tail tip. He would make a fantastic, thoughtful gift for the aspiring alpaca herder in your circle of friends and family, or he would make a delightful and friendly addition to your desk!
Prince Erlend is gentle and kind but doesn't particularly want to be king. He doesn't think he'd make a very good one, as he hates to upset anyone, and that includes the enemies of the kingdom. He'd much prefer to sit and play music or run in the fields, but his royal lineage comes through when he's faced with mud and dirt - he doesn't like to get his pelt wet or mucky.
He has a detachable blue felt collar that can be worn as a bracelet.
Prince Erlend is a large art doll measuring 25.5" from tail tip to nose when fully stretched out, approximately 8" from foot to shoulder and 14" from foot to tip of his antlers.
I used some more of my hoarded feathers on him, gorgeous rich, blue peacock and pheasant feathers! And I nearly didn't use this fur because it's almost too nice to use, but no point hoarding I guess - I have too many hoarded furs Incidentally that lovely honey fur works out at around £80 a meter, oocha. Possibly the most expensive I've ever bought It's Tissavel of course, only the best!!
He has a plastic armature, resin horns, sculpey face and paws and real feather details - he is about the size of a cat (expect longer of course!) and is lovely to pet.
