1. Gallery Makeover Project
First, thank you for all of your feedback concerning Gallery Makeovers! That information is being sorted and organized and I'll be working on one gallery at a time going forward. Recently, we announced the changes to the Journal Category tree and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I have been collecting feedback from the announcement for future consideration when it comes to future gallery additions. At this time, I will be monitoring the changes and should we ne

1. Gallery Clean-up Project
The Gallery Clean-up Project will focus on literally cleaning up the category tree in several ways. This first part of this project, is all behind the scenes. Over the years there have been categories that have been "removed", merged, or changed and there are back-end changes that need to be done to fully remove them from the tree. This part will not affect you, and if everything goes properly, you won't even notice it
The second part of this will be ensuring that the categories are all accepting the correct file-types. If there is a file-type that isn't being allowed in a particular category or

This article was written due to the recent uproar from some groups of the community because of the new username symbols.
Change is something handled differently by everyone. Some people accustom to change very quickly, others may take a long time or may not adjust to change at all. In regards to deviantART Site Updates, it's important to know ways to welcome change and embrace it. You are not expected to love every feature that is released, but giving it a chance before bashing it is a right step forward.
Before reading on, please note that this article is not directed at any one individual, but as a community as a whole. All views expressed in this article are mine and mine alone and do not reflect the views of deviantART.com.
When a new feature is released, most deviants give their first impressions of said feature. Some may even react like this:

Las Vegas deviantMEET Wrap-Up!Las Vegas deviantMEET Wrap-Up!2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Our first-ever deviantMEET in Las Vegas hit the jackpot!
On Sunday, December 1st, deviants were already lined up outside the doors at 5:00 PM, even though the event wasn't scheduled to start until 5:30! (A handful of amazingly dedicated super deviants arrived as early as 3:30 PM!) Far be it for us to wait to get the party started, so we opened the doors a little early, allowing the crowd to rush in. After signing our guestbook – we know, physical guestbooks are so Web 1.0, but they're great mementos! – our devious artists dispersed to play at the deviantART booth.
Stocked with six Intuos 5 Wacom tablets to play with, a 24-inch Cintiq, SketchBook Pro for sketching and painting, enough table seating for traditional drawing and portfolio review, and bags upon bags of free swag (including stress balls, deviantART Sharpies, and tons of free stickers), everyone found an awesome and creative way to spend their time.
New Journal Category TreeIn our continuous quest to improve the deviantART experience, we have made some changes to the Journal categories that have resulted in a much more condensed and simplified group of selections. The simplification of categories will make the Journal submission process even easier, and make it easier to browse and find Journals you love.New Journal Category Tree2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The old category tree was trying to be too specific, which in turn made it tough to find the right category to submit to. The new categories are meant to be clearer, broader, and more inclusive. Starting today, all existing Journals will be migrated to the new category tree.
by techgnotic founder of depthRADIUS
What lead to this decision, you may ask? Like the torrid fate of many categories, in trying to be all-inclusive and find an appropriate lid for every pot, all that’s really been achieved is a scattering of too much really great stuff
A Personal CauseSince it's inception in 2002, I have participated in the Weekend to End Women's Cancers. This event involves a 60km trek and a personal fundraising minimum of $2,000. Over the last 10 years I have been involved, I have raised over 50,000 and it's never been easy. The last couple of years have been particularly difficult because, let's be honest, there are a bunch of causes to support and only so much money to go around. I completely appreciate that there are numerous causes banging on your door, however, I will plead my case! Over the years there are certainly numerous causes that have come to my attention and, like you, I have a limited budget. My cause is pretty simple - it's Cancer. In my lifetime I have lost family members and it's tried to take my mother, twice.A Personal Cause2 years ago in Personal More Like This

The Love that Binds SDCC's Artists' Alley. If you participated in Artists' Alley this year on the floor of San Diego Comic-Con, in the far left corner of the Con by Hall G, then this is a journal especially for you. It's also a journey for readers, or members of deviantART who want to get a glimpse into something incredible deviantART's community does each year. The Love that Binds SDCC's Artists' Alley.2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
The event this year was brilliant. We are so incredibly proud of every exhibiting artist in the alley. And today, we're just as war-torn and beaten up from all the action as you are. This is my first productive cycle on our first day off in a few weeks. I probably should be doing what I imagine our other teammates are doing, relaxing! Instead, my heart is pounding, my mind is racing, my jaw clenching at times. Some things just need to be said and I can't rest until they are.
We're also proud of the patrons who visited Artists' Alley and either spoke with artists about their projects, commissioned or purchased illustrations, comic-books, etc. and supported the ~200 artis

Undiscovered (Beta): Unearthing Quality ArtArt Under The RadarUndiscovered (Beta): Unearthing Quality Art2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Each day, hundreds of thousands of pieces of art are submitted to deviantART. As more and more artists join, create, and share their work, it becomes easy for high quality art to miss its chance to stand out and be seen.
Our new browse mode, Undiscovered, aims to bring new, high quality artwork to the foreground.
Finding Hidden Gems
Undiscovered focuses on recently submitted artwork that has not yet drawn attention or recognition at the levels of Popular or What's Hot browse modes. Using an algorithm that identifies patterns in community behavior when curating content, Undiscovered generates a browsing experience that draws attention to creative art and talented artists that may not receive the same level of attention from other browse modes.
Please keep in mind that the algorithm that powers Undiscovered is still new and we may make changes as it grows in use.
