At last, I got some high-quality pics of my Seymour Guado costume! I made this costume for NDK and entered it in the costume contest, but I only got an award for presentation! DX So that means the judges liked how I walked onstage more than the costume. XP. The link to that entry is: [link]
This costume took me about a year to complete, mainly due to researching how I'd make the blue robe (you can see it all in another photo). The wig (made by me) weighed four pounds and had hanger wire inside to hold up the horns; the wires dig into my skull. The blue robe is another 15lbs. The appliqued design (shown in another picture) is 98' 4" in length and the entire edge had to be stitched down. It's a huge costume, but I'm rather mad and am willing to tackle heavy-duty projects. This costume drove me to insanity (I'm not kidding when I say this) and is extremely painful to wear. But I am so proud of it.
People have been asking how I made this wig. As some of you may know, I'm Mizu of Wigs By Mizu, and I've been styling cosplay wigs for years; the Seymour wig took my skills to a new level. It consists of three wigs, all dyed by me. I made a new hairline for the base wig (a Punky). The "horns" are made of chicken wire, paper mache, and foamboard covered in the hair of longer wigs I cut. I attached the horns to the Punky base, and then ran a wire from a wire hanger in each hollow horn; the ends of the wires were wrapped in the wig cap. While wearing the wig my skull acted a fulcrum and forced the wires and horns up. It was very painful, and after an hour I felt like vomiting due to pain. I had to wear it all day during NDK, only once during the day did I take it off.
All in all, the finished wig consists of three wigs, wire, paper mache, paint, tulle netting, canvas from a baseball cap, hot glue, water soluble adhesive, one bottle of hair spiking glue, one bottle of hair gel, two cans of hairspray, a month total of my life, and my blood, sweat and tears.
