EDIT: I ADDED NUMBER 3 IN CAUSE THAT WAS KIND OF AN IMPORTANT LESSON TOO. HAHA
Usually I am pretty quiet when it comes to the community and its dealings with drama . But I feel like I have to write my two cents about this topic.
A lot of people have been throwing around this post around about how art schools are terrible and are not worth it ya. I am sure you can find the article somewhere if you just google it . Though everyone is entitled to their own opinion I feel that I should talk about both sides of the coin when it comes to art school.
Now I have went to art school , and have done well for myself , I have worked internationally and worked for some big companies , and currently at the moment I actually teach at an art school as well.
SO THE ULTIMATE QUESTION: IS ART SCHOOL A WASTE OF TIME?
WELL THERE IS NO BLACK AND WHITE ANSWER
What I believe is that art school i
HOW TO GET PUBLISHEDThis is an old piece I wrote and posted a while ago, but just recently people have been asking what my experiences were with regard to publishing and getting published - so here it is again, with a few new notes added about dA and Madefire!HOW TO GET PUBLISHED1 year ago in Personal More Like This
This is a very honest view based on 27 years experience as a writer, artist and publisher. The point here is to try to HELP you go into the business enlightened and with open-eyes, knowing what to expect. IT IS NOT INTENDED TO PUT YOU OFF! However, you should know that getting into comics is NOT easy - as too many people frequently imagine - and neither is it a glamorous 'rock-star' existence. It is hard work, as are all trades, and it should be treated as such. I see too many people despondent and badly hurt by their experience, and this can be avoided if you know what you are getting into right from the outset.
Getting into comics is something a lot of people want to know how to do, but there's a lot of questions you w

If you're wondering how to improve as an artist, the answer is...
Practice, of course! But, I've also come to understand that the attitude we bring towards improving is almost as equally important, if not more important. I say this because it is our attitude and mindset which may determine whether we are "in the mood" to practice or not, and of what subjects we're willing or limiting ourselves to practice.
I believe a lot of artists may feel they are not getting much better at art and feel frustrated because they've been drawing intensely for months or years. Some may have actually improved noticeably but won't let themselves recognize it because it's not good according to their standards or expectations. Or some may have actually not improved much because they have become
My bad anatomy...Haters gonna hate. I get that. But there are moments when you have to listen, especially if a theme starts to emerge. Right now I'm noticing that the main criticism - or flat-out derision - I'm getting regarding my art is around my figure drawing. I'm hearing that I don't understand anatomy, and I'm getting a little too frequently compared to a fellow creator who has been roundly and constantly panned for his poor anatomy for too much of the last 20 something years or so.My bad anatomy...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Now if there's one thing I really DO know, it's anatomy! I've been kind of low-level obsessed about anatomy since I was a kid. I'm still learning things, but I'm confident that I build on solid foundations that are knowledge based. In short - I don't just make it up!
So what gives?
I was really confused about it for a while, but then it struck me - I'm a product of my age, and my times. I grew up with Neal Adams and John Buscema, then graduated on to the amazing bodily distortions of Richard Corben, before becoming a

Who's Benjamin? I think. That's an excellent question.
Benjamin. A boy who paints what he wants to see. A dreamer. A friend. A warm summer night on the rooftop, a hot air balloon, a sea of whispering grass backlit by a kerosene lamp and the fireflies that flickered like sparks from a bottle-rocket. A match-giver, a soft-spoken superhero, a tear-choked goodbye in the shadow of the stars. A boy who was, and will forever remain seventeen years old, who died to make his bird fly once more.
But what happened to you, Benjamin Thomas? What happened to my poor, sweet boy? What could you have done to deserve the darkness that befell you despite all of your hopeless, misguided kindness? Could it be that you were born into a world that was just not ready?
You lived your life before its time—a life meant for the pages of a beautiful book, had your story only been written! You could have been a poem, an epic: lyrical, grand,
5 Fundamental Skills (by Bobby Myers)5 Fundamental Skills Every Artist Should Master5 Fundamental Skills (by Bobby Myers)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
(by Bobby Myers)
As an artist, your job is to immerse your viewers into a world that you have built and guide them safely through it. Artists have much in common with storytellers. Storytellers have several tricks that they use to keep their readers coming back for more. Like storytellers, artists can use similar tricks to help them produce more compelling artwork. In this article, we will explain 5 fundamental skills that every artist should master. Let's take a look!
The most important aspect of art to me personally is the composition. It sets the stage for everything else. This is your way to guide and lead the viewer to make them feel as if they are actually in your picture. If this part of the process is not created and controlled properly, everything else can and probably will fal

Is there a technique?
Some people have told me to do lots of fanart, like... great freaky fanart like Dan Luvisi or Dave Rapoza style.
What do I think:
I think that people in majority don't have the slightest idea about image construction. Composition, color balance, values, design, etc, etc. They don't know shit. But they have a feeling about how things should look like and they like shit around, because of a ...gut feeling. That feeling is all the things above that I mentioned but without really knowing they exist. Is like. When you have a feeling you shouldn't do something, because it feels wrong. Well that's your instinct telling you "you don't know shit about this, but somethings up that you didn't study for son".Why do I think people like fanart:
Fanart is about characters we already know and that we're all fans about. Like popular characters. People like those characters, know those characters and above all, LOVE those characters. A

"Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I learned that somepony who looks a little different, and may be a little clumsy at times (despite always doing their best), is *unquestionably* mentally challenged.
Instead of 'loving', 'tolerating', or more importantly, 'accepting' these ponies, and then teaching our young fillies to do the same, we should just fix these undesirable imperfections and hope that they will bring less attention to themselves.
Your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle."

Today a little educational update for you and especially for people, who want to use markers and/or people, who want to learn a little bit about colour theory, or both. ^_~
I started to write bite-size colouring tutorials for the Letraset blog. You'll get to see new art plus you'll get a 'hybrid tutorial' consisting of a bit of colour theory, a walkthrough and how to use markers. ^^

Here's my reasons why I don't support ACTA.
For a bill that's suppose to prevent piracy, here's what it will do:
Destroy freedom of speech - Especially on the internet.
Under ACTA, the government and the elite will censor what they considered as 'Copywrite Infringement.' By shutting down sites. They will have control over the information and we would be in the dark(The government has been meaning ), this would effect news sites and information sites as well, since they can't spread and/or report. Our blogs and online journals will be censored as well. All of this goes against America's Constitution of Freedom of Speech amendment.
Stifle trade, especially of generic medicines -
In seeking on how to protect brands from piracy under the name of patenting, ACTA will

I truly dearly sincerely passionately undeniably exceptionally irrevocably hate this holiday.
Saint Valentine, I hope you rot in hell...
But you probably won't... cause you're a saint...
All the people in relationships... Screw you guys, you're happy.
All I have is my pillow.
Me: Oh yeah baby..
Me: Shhh... Don't talk baby, don't talk.
Okay, one man theater over.
School work is killing meee. I'm taking 18 hours this semester. The stream of assignments doesn't seem to stop or even slow down.
On the upside, I recently got my Final Fantasy XIII-2. Played a little bit of it. It was fun. Wanna play more when I get the time.
I think I'm gonna form a Forever Alone Party.
...... Also known as FAP.
LOL oookay, I should really go to sleep before I say anything else stupid.
Good night people. *poof*

You're still free to refer to me as oceanchan or whatever, I still don't mind the name, especially considering I've had it for almost ten years now, I am very used to it. This was actually a really hard decision~!
But oceanchan is a little bit weeb, and oceantan is a little more subtle. But in the end, I'm still Ocean, haha uwu
And oceantan can work as like....... like.......tan on your skin. /CLEVER? idk

Someone asked me this question on tumblr:
your are so nice and talented hehe btw im just curious, do you also like boys? hehe i asks cuz i see on your page that you like 1 direction too "
"woooh look at me flaming bisexual! LOL funny question. To be honest, i don't really say it that way. Reason? I see people as people. I don't see them as boys or girls, or thin or overweight, or tall or short. I see people as people and I'm attracted to them by more personal attributes such as personality. I guess if that considers me being attracted to the male species then so be it. I never really cared, or talked about it, but yes I guess so! I am a 12 year old girl when it comes to 1D , I cant help myself, sorry lol. I grew up mainly being around females so i guess that made me more of an androgynous character and have certain attractions to guys. I just think this whole topic is so over thought, however, which makes me feel dumb
