A couple weeks ago, I went to a raucous furry party.
Oh heavens, that's an odd way to start a personal story.
A good friend of mine called me up, saying that she and her friend were going to a monthly get-together in Orange County where a bunch of furries throw a party open to everyone. Furries...not really my thing. My experience within the furry community is limited to the occasional commission I get, but when it comes to conversing and interacting with furries, I'm a bit inexperienced.
"Just a party?" I ask.
"Yeah, something they do every month."
"Ah, so just a get-together," I breathe a sigh of relief. "Not like a bunch of fursuiters or crazies."
"..." She replies.
"..." I implore.
"..." She laments.
Apparently...it was a bunch of the crazies.
"Yeah, they're actually going to do a fursuit parade."

Artist Goals and RacismIntrospectionArtist Goals and Racism5 months ago in Personal More Like This
I think it’s important for artists to be introspective. I think it should be the goal of any cartoonist or artist to take a step back, look at the world, and question and challenge all assumptions and normalities. So often little social stigmas and issues go completely unnoticed by a vast majority of the population, that I think it’s important to be reminded of where we are, how things work, and challenge the status-quo.
I believe that’s one of the most fundamentally important things about being an artist. It’s not the artistic skill level, it’s your ability to poke fun at stuff and make average people question their routines. While artistic skill is important, the average consumer doesn’t really care about artistic merits if the overall message is conveyed well. I’ve seen many stick-figure comics and supposedly “low-skill” artists resonate with people because of the message they’re sending.
DashCon - How not to do a conventionIt seems like every week there’s a new convention going on, and this was no different. DashCon (purportedly the largest gathering of tumblr uses to date), was happening this weekend and... well... it fell apart in many gloriously horrible ways.DashCon - How not to do a convention10 months ago in Personal More Like This
First there were accusations of scamming, as the convention owners crowd-sourced $17,000 to secure the venue (which should’ve been done MONTHS in advance). All attempts to contact the hotel have resulted in the hotel saying there was no need to raise that money and that they never received any of it.
Then there were the cancelations. The Welcome to Nightvale people were flown in, but then told they weren’t going to be paid till AFTER they performed for everyone (which is already suspicious) and also told they weren’t getting reimberesed for the hotel, flight, food, etc. So sadly WTNV had to cancel at the last minute, resulting in the convention owners refunding patrons with “an extra hour in the ball pit.” The

The E.T. Cartridge Landfill has been foundIn the early 1980’s the American video game industry bombed so spectacularly, that it was rumored Atari just dumped their unsold copies of E.T. in a landfill in the New Mexico desert. It’s been a longstanding folk tale of the modern video game industry. And now it’s been proven true. The E.T. Cartridge Landfill has been found1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Microsoft (of all companies) teamed up with a documentary filmmaker to go and explore the desert in the hopes of uncovering this legendary landfill of shitty games. As cool as this is... I can’t help but feel a little... disappointed. And more or less it’s because the hard working Angry Video Game Nerd left his post of doing regular updates to start filming an actual feature film with the plot being uncovering the mystery around the legendary E.T. landfill. The AVGN uprooted his home life, moved to California for a year, hired acto

I'm starting out an image, and for the life of me, I just cannot determine what color I should use for the skintone. I wish I had a crystal ball that would show me thirty minutes into the future so I can see just how a character will look after applying all the necessary shading, anatomical detailing, and highlights based upon the base color I use. A lot of times, it'll appear too faint, too desaturated, or on the flip side, way too bold and gleaming like a bronzed deity caked in a thick lathering of walrus grease.
Which is delicious, by the way.
FORTUNATELY! The folks at The Humanae Tumblr seemed to have a crystal ball of their own. Not so much one that shows the final product of my work, but one that certainly told them of my many incredibly frustrating endeavors into spending a good chunk of time shading a character's skin only to realize the base tone was absolute g

Recently I found out that one of the commissions I undertook a while back was, in fact, a setup. It was hired by forum members of Encyclopedia Dramatica, one of whom I actually use to talk to and have good discussions with. They pooled their resources to pay for it, sent me the info and money, and then proceeded to sit back and document everything I did or didn’t do per their highly specific criterias. The user in question then posting a lengthy take-down (though through a disclaimer on the top of the journal it’s clearly not a takedown! lulz!) here on DA.
Here is the commission:
The journal in question talks at great length about my seemingly lack of transparency. IE: that I don’t communicate every little facet of what I’m doing to them, such as the number of commissions I have, what my “job” is, what my home schedule is like, etc. And honestly? This is WHY I’m not transpar

Console Generation RantThis generation of video game consoles has been completely off my radar. Even my fanboy lust of all things Nintendo can’t make me save up enough money to buy a Wii-U. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve become jaded over the last console war, or if I’m just moving on away from consoles into other avenues of gaming (ie: PC gaming), but something about this generation just defies interest for me.Console Generation Rant1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Some of it is just head inducing nonsense like this: http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/8/5080750/xbox-one-day-one-patch-required-to-play-games The Xbox One requiring a day one patch TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES. I mean, when the Ps3 launched it required a day one patch to play Blu-Ray movies, that’s not so bad though since you could still play games. But the Xbox One comes out and you literally can’t do anything with it if you don’t have an internet connection. For how much you paid for that device that’s pretty shitty.
And all the consoles are doing crap

I have desperately been trying to keep an open mind about the movement, but the more I’ve seen of how that movement acts I just can’t in good conscience root for it. I thank all the people who were willing to give me a second chance and send me links to positive things the movement is trying to do... but ultimately the whole genesis of the movement seems to be to harass women OUT of the gaming industry, and the mountain of proof piling up is pretty damn damning.
Like I said in my last journal, I do honestly believe there ARE people in the GG community who DO believe 100% in the goals of the group and who are absolutely LOVELY and WONDERFUL people. But the more I see of how the GG movement was started, how they speak to each other, how they plan to attack and target specific individuals... I kinda feel like those wonderful people are being used, or at the very least duped. And that bothers me a lot.
